Hori FPS Pad Plus for PS4/PS3 review.

New colors, sexy.

Might pick up the red one.

Damn, I just ordered the original one too. The colors are nice

Is this the only DS4 alternative right now?

I'm really dying for a decent DS4 replacement, I can't stand anything about it any more, especially after going back and forth with the Wii U Pro Controller and the Xbox One on PC.

its wired. do we live in the year 2004?

other than that, i want to try this one out. dont like the ps4 controller since the analogue sticks as well as shoulder buttons are simply the worst (of all three this gen)

It's wired most likely because it's designed to be used in tournaments and probably because Sony has a patent on their wireless technology in their own controllers. It's not really Hori's fault. I don't really mind the wire, once you get used to it again it's not a big deal.

I wish it was 2004. We got the Wavebird around then.

Now? Wireless controllers last as long as a fucking cheapo Smartphone using internet all the time.

I'll take the wire.

Just received mine yesterday, and played a couple hours of PvE Destiny with it. The "slow" aiming button thing on the back is AMAZING. The only problem with it was that I'd keep forgetting to actually use it.

Maybe I'm weird, but I don't even notice any difference between symmetrical and asymmetrical sticks. They feel great, though, and the shoulder and trigger buttons are also great. Really miss rumble. Here's hoping the pad has good longevity...

I'm happy with the DS4, but I might buy it on sale one day just to see how the other half lives.

Same here. I've been playing Destiny for a full year with the DS4 without any problems - I think it is the best controller ( out of all the consoles ) to date - but I still might try this out, if only out of curiosity.

garbage imo. But it may work for you.

I originally got it to play mkx with a wired controller that had the same form factor as the ds4. I've tried it with mgsv and cod as well.

It's ridiculously light weight. I guess due to the lack of rumble.
The controller is too big and the dpad is too small.

I can see people with decent sized hands and long fingers really enjoying this controller but it wasn't for me.

It's on http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0106XFCPI/?tag=neogaf0e-20 for a reasonable price. I might sell mines locally.

I really like mine but I'm having problems with my R2 button sometimes and also with the auto fire. Sometimes auto fire just stops working. And sometimes R2 is not responsive.

I was wondering about that, too. Not sure if I was just not hitting it all the way because the feel is so different from the DS4, or if it really just doesn't fire sometimes. Weird.

I'm visiting Japan so I grabbed one of these. Looking forward to trying it out and giving my impressions. First impression though is its very comfortable. Much more comfortable than it looks.

It's £25 for UK folk. Very reasonable price, although I am pretty happy with the Dualshock 4 overall.
Wow, that's cheap as hell. If that translates roughly to $50AUD, I'm going to buy one and use it as my main controller. And not worry about flat batteries ever again.

Sooo its out of print now? Damn it
What? Shit, I didn't even know this thread was that old. I bet they didn't even bring them to Australia :(

Edit: Play-Asia look like they'll be selling blue and red iterations of the controller come Oct 1st. And it's equating to $50AUD (plus whatever shipping) which is a steal, considering the standard BT controller costs around $80 here.

It is Japan only so far. We all had to import ours.

FYI, all colors are in stock at NCSX and Play-Asia has the black in stock and should ship the colored ones tomorrow.

Just read through the thread, but didn't see many actual impressions beyond 'its good' and general impressions of Hori as a company. (I read where one Gaffer liked the quality of the buttons...but not so much the plastic shell.)

Would love to hear more in-depth thoughts on the controller....
* responsive?
* quality of material?
* how do the shoulder and trigger buttons feel vs Xbox One controller?
* does the Touchpad feel as natural to use as the DS4...?

Thanks in advance.

See if this helps. I made this a while back.

This thing has no light bar so what happens if I play a game like Until Dawn which tracks the light for those scenes where you can't move?

Its actually uses the gyro sensor, not the light bar. Not sure if this pad has a gyro sensor, though.

I'm tempted to pick one of these babies up in advance for BO3 reviews and what not. After much hesitation, I picked up their fighting game pad and so far enjoy it.

The only non-arcade stick Hori controller I've owned was the
TAC3 and worked great for BFBC2 after some adjusting.

I fucking hate these controllers and all the other 3rd party controllers with modded turbo features. I use to play GTA IV online on the PS3 and these controllers killed the multiplayer off so fast. It got to the point where the people who remained playing once the community died off all ended up with hori's or frags to compete with one another by using the turbo mod. Isn't this like cheating? one of the reason I avoid gaming competitive on the PC is because of all the loopholes towards gaining a competitive edge.

Not sure if this has been asked yet or not, but are the pins for the triggers plastic or metal? DS4 are plastic and thats where I keep breaking my controllers. Id like to get a comfortable controller with triggers that will last.

I bought one and it arrived. Decided to play SOMA to test it out.

Everything works fine except R2. I feel like I have to touch a very specific part of the shoulder button and the moment I lose any pressure.. I instantly drop whatever I am holding in the game.

I can actually pinpoint the issue in game since you have to keep pressing R2 to interact with stuff.

I see the interact icon disappear/appear as I slightly move my finger around the button.

Not sure if the game is buggy or I have a bad controller. It's a shame because I love how it feels. Not sure how to test if the R2 is really to blame though... and if it is, will play asia send a new one :(

Seems you have a defective one, and they do offer a warranty if it is defective. Contact them using https://www.play-asia.com/contact/

I'll do that, thanks. If this issue is fixed, this controller completely beats the DS4, for me. I much prefer the feel of this controller. And the layout of the sticks didn't take long for me to get used to. I also like how the controller is bigger than the DS4, I prefer it that way.

Everything just feels better, too. With my DS4, I was always worried when the next sticky R1 or squeaky R2 would show up. I just didn't like the feel of the buttons on the DS4 controller. It feels... cheap? It's kinda difficult to describe, but the Hori Pad feels much better in that regard. The sticks also feel A LOT better.
