For these reasons, I have a gut feeling that it'll be Classic Mega Man, Zero, & Tron Bonne for the Mega Man representation if NvC happens.

Marvel vs capcom had classic, tatsunoko had volnut, onimusha BW had EXE, SNKvsC:C had Megaman Zero and MVC3 had Zero.

Zero's pretty popular. I don't think people had a problem with Zero being in the game as much as Zero being the "Mega Man" of MvC3.

Nah, people expected Zero, he was considered a shoe in early on.

However during early press tours Niitsuma on stream responded to a question when asked about X directly.

His response at the time was simply that X fans would be happy.

As it stands there have been a lot of X fans that continue to feel slighted because despite X being very popular in the west (and by Capcom's own words) he continues to not ever show up and is replaced by Zero.

When the game shipped and only had Zero (what's more with a line that directly referenced X) many where angry. Capcom then asked for people to voice who they wanted to be in Ultimate, two characters crushed everyone else Virgil and X (.EXE did very well too) only for them to leave X out again. The backlash was awful and Niitsuma eventually talked about it.

Using Zero who has his own games as a replacement for X was never going to work. Zero now has his own games to rep.

Since they could easily port over UMvC3 assets for the Capcom cast, it would theoretically allow for Capcom to divert more man power towards Nintendo characters & Capcom newcomers. I tried to go as obscure as I could, but the problem with Nintendo is they've already mined most of the decent obscure choices for Smash. Ness, Captain Falcon, Pit, Little Mac, Mr. Game & Watch... these guys would be considered pretty obscure if not for Smash.

I got REAL obscure with Capcom, though. Also couldn't give a single fuck about any non-classic Mega Man game, so suck it X fans.

He is the second most important character, the guy who designed MvC III loves him and they know he is popular enough they used him to sale Ulimate MVC III and DMC 4 SE pretty much all on his own.

So yeah, very important.

This is certainly true. Zero had the better games when you count X6 and 7 and they killed X in those games and then they made ZX with characters taking in Zero style much more then X.

The last few X talking points was the unrevealed and canceled Maverick Hunter, the terrible April Fools joke and the backlash over Marvel. At least Zero has a positive reason for discussion.

Oh and the Amzing Xover which is just X with Leon's scarf from four, but totally not X as a character.

I doubt Nintendo vs Capcom will be a 2D tag-team fighting game. Party fighter in the vein of Power Stone though that's even more accessible and simplistic than Smash though..... that I can see. More obscure characters would even fit better.

Need more obscure characters on these lists. Where's Doshin the Giant?

Y'know, as much as I'd love to see more obscure characters, generally vC games focus on recognizable characters, as do Smash games.

I doubt Nintendo vs Capcom will be a 2D tag-team fighting game. Party fighter in the vein of Power Stone though that's even more accessible and simplistic than Smash though..... that I can see. More obscure characters would even fit better.

I don't see it; Ono is specifically interested in it, so if they did it, he'd probably be behind it. I suppose there's a chance, but I could see Nintendo wanting a serious fighting game for the console.

This is certainly true. Zero had the better games when you count X6 and 7 and they killed X in those games and then they made ZX with characters taking in Zero style much more then X.

The last few X talking points was the unrevealed and canceled Maverick Hunter, the terrible April Fools joke and the backlash over Marvel. At least Zero has a positive reason for discussion.

No this is bullshit. Zero was popular, but he didn't eclipse X at all until 5 and introduced dues Virus shit and suddenly forgot that X was said over in over again to have unlimited power, and thus was given the variable X for a name and when Infune gutted the X storyline to shove Zero in the leading Role. X has always been very popular in the west and is often seen as the most popular Rock.

To say Zero always eclipsed X to the majority is simply false.

People saying inklings make me think how they'd even play in a 2D fighter, and the thought amuses me. They'd obviously be a zoning/traps style character, with a very explicit focus on controlling space. Because when Ryu throws a fireball and says "That area is mine!" the Inkling literally paints half the arena and claims it for herself. If an Inkling is on her own ink, she has access to her full arsenal, can squid-teleport inside it, and generally be a pain to catch. Get her out of her own ink and she's in trouble. So the gameplan for her is INK EVERYTHING and buff herself, while debuffing the opponent's movement speed if they step in it. Maybe even make dashing impossible.

It'd be crazy, but... not too crazy for a vs. Capcom game. Roll would be a hard counter since she carries a bucket of water and a broom, though. The mortal enemies of Inklings everywhere.

I don't want to speak for other people, so I hope no one takes this to mean "oh you don't have a real opinion", but I have to wonder how many people started thinking so highly of Zero after Egoraptor bumped him up. I mean I can see Zero being pretty popular before it, but a lot of people get a lot of their opinions from YT people. :v For instance, I didn't consider giving Castlevania on NES a chance until Egoraptor explained what made it great.

I think if they make an NvC, it should be a mix of classic characters and oddball characters, much like UMvC3.

I've never been an advocate of Waluigi in Smash, but I can picture him working perfectly in a hypothetical NvC.

I can also picture Ridley working perfectly here. Take UMvC3's Firebrand and Sentinel and put 'em together.

Limiting myself to 10 characters from each. These were my "rules" I made when picking them.

-Smash / VS. series characters only
-Try to avoid a "where's Mega Man?" situation where a staple character is left out.
-Similar ratio of character scale from both sides so there isn't a bunch of regular sized Capcom fighters compared to small Nintendo characters.
-No Pokemon (if Pokemon Company didn't play ball)

Biggest concerns on my picks is mostly the Capcom side. I didn't want to remove Morrigan since she is a staple, despite her being similar to the Shoto archetype that is covered. Arthur should be in for historic reasons although his playstyle similarity to Mega Man gives me pause, and I definitely wouldn't change Mega Man away from the classic version to accommodate this.

I tried to have a good mix of play styles in there. Viewtiful Joe, Olimar and Kirby are smallest. Mario, Fox, Mega Man, and Arthur are above that. Peach, Link, Ryu, Chun-Li, Morrigan, Jill, Phoenix Wright, and Pit would be the medium size humanoids. I would make Samus, Dante, and Captain Falcon a little bit taller but not in the Haggar and DK class who are the largest.
