Are you on drugs? Or am I?
Precisely this.More than 10 exclusives that I might care.
Less than that the console is not for me. With Sony, for example, is easy.
Heavy japanese support + Sony studios = I will definitely buy it.
While MS, in the 360 era, got me with games like Lost Odyssey, Infinite Undiscovery, Blue Dragon, Gears, Halo, Wartech, Tenchu Z, Splinter Cell Conviction, Kingdom Under Fire, Alan Wake and Fable.
See? More than 10.
Now the one.... Well... Let's just say that... After the Xbox One, I will probably never buy an Xbox again.
I own a PS4 for, essentially, 3 games so far...but not because I bought a PS4, I was given it. 3 games, no matter how good they may be, is not enough of a library to get me to drop hundreds on a platform. Multi-plats are a no no because I can already play them on PC, so that only leaves exclusives...and amongst those my list of titles I'm interested in is extremely short. If Sony can't get me to drop money on more than 3 titles how do you expect them to sell me on the entire console?
You can both be a hobbyist and at the same time think it's stupid to pay 600 bucks for a video game.Only gaming peons would think otherwise.
For casual gamers I can understand but if you consider gaming your hobby then you do yourself a disfavor skipping any game that interests you
The games library as a whole. The combined first and third party games.I don't really get this quote personally. If 1 or 2 games don't sell one on a console, than what would sell one on a console?
Even more puzzling to me is when people rush through/quit whatever game they're playing now to play a new single player game day one, the games are not going anywhere. The thing I don't get is when people buy a system for a game that doesn't exist, or was teased with a logo or some shit.
Like people who bought a PS3 for Trico or a Switch for Metroid Prime 4. Like, why not just wait dude.
I don't really get this quote personally. If 1 or 2 games don't sell one on a console, than what would sell one on a console? Almost everyone hates console "gimmicks" that differentiate systems from one another, so I wouldn't even say that's a system seller anymore. So then that leaves games as a system seller. What's the point of getting a system if it doesn't have compelling games only available on it? Note: I'm not here to tell people how to spend their money, it's just I've seen this quote before and I want to understand the reasoning behind it.

No regrets , and I'm about to buy a PlayStation 4 exclusively for FF7 Remake.
Even if you can afford it, buying a €300+ console for 2 or 3 games over it's entire gen is just a massive waste of money. You can both be a hobbyist and at the same time think it's stupid to pay 600 bucks for a video game.
Having a hobby doesn't mean you can (and should) spend a lot of money on it.
To each his own, clearly you don't take gaming very seriously. It would be like telling someone who likes cars "why the fuck do you need those classic mustangs and Ferraris, your Toyota gets you from A to B just fine"Worth more than some paperweight I bought just to feel like a "real" gamer.

I have no problem with buying a console for a single game because 99% of times is not really a single game, in a 6-7-8 years gen you can surely find some other interesting exclusives games.
Switch was the only console who fucked me in the ass because zelda was less great than i was expecting and metroid prime is a development farce that will not come out before switch 2, and the few games i bought for this console were 7\10 games at best.
This is one of the dumbest takes on gaming as a hobby someone can have.To each his own, clearly you don't take gaming very seriously. It would be like telling someone who likes cars "why the fuck do you need those classic mustangs and Ferraris, your Toyota gets you from A to B just fine"
You wouldn't be wrong but then you really don't love the hobby like they do

Not when you actually play the games on the boxes. I really don't care about the boxes at all but the experiences to be had on them.it sounds like your real hobby is not gaming, but collecting plastic boxes with a bunch of chips inside.

Basically, "Why game when I can work in a woodshop?" Everyone has different intersts. One can easily make the argument that there's no need to buy a new console if the old ones are working just fine. If someone games only two hours a month then I can easily see getting away with older tech. Some more casual people will say "oh I don't think there is enough value for me in that box, I'd rather buy clothes or beer" but for me I love the experiences and missing them would bother the shit out of me.

Nope you clearly don't.So, not buying a system because you won’t play games on it = not taking gaming very seriously?
I know you're smarter than that.
Nope you clearly don't.
You don't have to, I mean there is nothing wrong with playing madden or fifa yearly, millions of people like you do. Some of us just have more diverse taste than that.
And that's my point isn't it. If you are serious you make the time, not because it's a job but because you love it and missing a title would bother you.So it’s more a matter of how much time ome has for gaming and how many games a year they play that dictates how many platforms are worth it. Missing out on a few exclusives doesn't matter if a person isn’t able to keep up with all the games thst it wrest them on the platform(s) they own already.
What makes you think I play those kind of games?Nope you clearly don't.

Just like any hobby there are levels to the dedication. Some people just want to wet their whistle and play a few select titles yearly.
Others actually care about playing everything. You don't HAVE to play everything, but then you simply are a more casual gamer. Who cares if you are having fun.

For some people they simply don't care to miss a couple of titles, or a whole platform because they don't care for the platform and the titles on it.
For other people though they actually care about being versed in all titles that interest them on all platforms.
