I don't think you can? I'm pretty sure you have to build/acquire the warp drives necessary for that type of travel as well as make sure you have the fuel and resources to do so. You would be stuck to wandering around regardless to make sure you have the right things to move farther in
Well yeah, I meant a run where my only goal is reach the center. No stopping to smell the space roses or play Star Trek.

I have a serious issue with menu navigation if this is final. That mouse cursor reticule seems really slow for navigation. I think highlighting the objects in the menu then a button press for drilling down would work better for my likings.

It looks almost exactly like Destiny's UI interface.

I'm playing via KB/M on a PC though, so it won't affect me.

On a controller, though - I'm not a fan of Destiny's UI. One of the things I didn't like about that game.

The fact that it's a laptop-class GPU from a couple years ago, running on an engine from a small 10-20 person team.

Just looking at Firewatch, you never would have guessed that it would be chugging and dropping frames all over the place on PS4. After getting burned on that one, I'm trying to keep my expectations in check.....at least until someone at Hello Games literally says "The Playstation 4 version is locked at 60 frames per second."

1. Uh, no it's not? The GPU is desktop-grade, although certainly not high-end. That's where they put the grunt of the console. The CPU though, that's a low-power component designed for portable devices.

2. Firewatch is running in Unity and is obviously unoptimized as hell for PS4 (the game AND the engine). There are many other indies from small teams that run inexplicably poorly on PS4. Simple games it should clearly have no issues running at a rock-solid 60. But just look at what the console can do at 60fps in The Witness or 30fps in Uncharted 4. NMS at 60 does not seem unachievable.

Looking at the controller while the game was being shown - the dev clearly wasn't playing the game in this video. He was simply holding a controller while a movie of the game played. That seems to be in line with every other video we've seen...why is it so hard to actually show the game BEING PLAYED by someone in real time?

The Milli Vanilli of our generation. The moon landings were fake too. Everything is a lie.

I probably should have been more specific, yeah I would be on a controller.

Definitely some interesting things going on with this game but I'm hoping the movement speed can be altered/quickened!

I'm also wondering how much the pop-in can be reduced with optimization.

Will they be adding additional content updates to the game?

I remember reading somewhere that Sean Murray would be thinking about adding post-launch content. Although, he stated that the game would be much more like a PC game in that the content would be updates, not DLC. I think it was a PC Gamer article?

Will they be adding additional content updates to the game?

They said they after they launch the game they'll take a look and see what else they could feasibly add. I say feasibly because adding in a thing-- a new race/faction, type of ship, weapons, etc..-- means adding it to the algorithm, making sure it doesn't break everything, then pushing that out. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if the game is received well, that HG would be motivated to add things to the experience.

Sean Murray is a 60FPS enthusiast. I remember him saying (fairly recently I think) that all of the games he has worked on in his career have been at 60FPS, and it's what he's used to working with.

I haven't seen this asked before but what if you REALLY love a planet that you find? As in, it is just everything you wanted if you could design your own planet. Is there a way to fast travel back to it? Establish a big base on it or make it your "home"?

Also, is every planet one single type of environment or is their multiple environments possible? Like on Earth.

He said generally a planet is one biome.

The pop in is very disappointing.

I wonder if they tried reducing some other aspect in order to reduce pop in? I would totally accept a lower resolution for less pop in.

There is no base building (it's actually a design choice they spoke about in length) to encourage exploration and moving to the center.

I doubt you'll have a fast travel apart from how advanced your ship's engine is. Having a more advanced engine will allow you to travel longer distances, so as long you have your "home" planet flagged/marked/etc... and an engine that can make the jump in a single leap, that'd be the closest to "fast travel" that I can think of given what we've learned about the game so far; that is, unless your starting planet has on of those stargate-looking portals and if they are two-way travel systems.

Is this gif running faster than normal? This always happens on my end when I start making too many gifs for some incomprehensible reason. (Using Instagiffer and gfycat)

I'll probably just stop now if that's the case.

I wonder what achievements this will have.

I'm cautiously hyped for it, may wait on a sale unless I can get it cheapish near release.

when he flew into space, he said that if they were to go back it would be generated again, does that mean that it'll be the same planet with the same animals or something completely different?

Yes.
They've said they kinda wanna support it like Minecraft. No DLC, but rather, feature updates. MC has been supported like this for YEARS.
I believe Sean has said that base building would be a probable post-launch update.

It would be the same planet. Any damage you made to it would dissappear unless it impacted the whole world. If you go to the planet and exterminate a certain animal, that animal will no longer exist in the game.

Same planet. Depending on various things, time of day and etc might be different when you land, and you may not land in the same spot, obviously. But it won't be a different planet.

This algorithm is nuts. Wouldn't be surprised if when the game is released all of the copies running at once will cause an true AI to be born as Sean enters the singularity.

If your starting area of the galaxy sucks, can you start a new game and get another area of the galaxy, or are you locked in?

What if when you reach the center you become a god and gain control over the algorithm of life? That, or you meet god and he asks to borrow your starship.

This is definitely a game I will wait on. The biggest question for me will be, how fun is it to explore the 17th planet?
