We are always interested in getting to know more people with the same hobby. If you share our love for Indies, let us know! We talk about anything Indie, want to talk about the mess that DoubleFine is leaving behind? The depth(s) of Dwarf Fortress? Need recommendations? This is the right spot to ask! We'd also love to read more impressions :)

| 3.5 Quick Note about Formatting |
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you want to suggest a game that has recently released or that looks interesting, but hasnt released yet, please follow the following formatting structure so the post is picked up by Toma-Bot:
Released games:
TITLE - PRICE (PLAT)
LINK
DESCRIPTION TEXT
Not yet released games:
TITLE - PLAT
LINK
DESCRIPTION TEXT
Copy the appropriate content and add the proper information for the black writing. Please only include 1 link and 1 image. I tried making it a bit failsafe, so it should be able to deal with 2 links or images as well, but 1 is safer.
If the game is free, then put "Free" as the price, otherwise please use $ or € for the price. You can also include more than one game per post (like the Screenshot saturday posts), but please stick to the above format for every entry.
If someone posts a non-proper formatted post, I'd appreciate if you could repost the game with the same info in the proper format.
I noticed there are a few noteworthy, and relatively unknown, projects that deserve a shoutout here because I feel that they share a common interest with the people in this thread. I talked to the guy from Pixabyte and MetaVendetta and both are very enthusiastic about the things they love and figured you might appreciate the shoutout as well. If you enjoy anything here or want to give feedback, let these guys know via their websites or also here in this thread. If you appreciate something, let people know. A heads up can sometimes very valuable.
Everything filled in.
I was impulse buying The Temporal Invasion earlier today, which is a riddle game that starts off pretty easy, but has some nice hooks that makes me geniunely curious how it continues. You have some tools like magnifying glass, color adjustments, your brain, using google, ingame mail contacts etc. Its all super low profile, but I love the presentation:
My money is on RimWorld this month.
Ranks as one of my most anticipated titles of the year overall. Can't freakin' wait!
Decisions, decisions. Had jumped the gun last week and gotten Inside on Xbox although I had already preordered it on Steam. Now I'm debating whether to cancel the Steam preorder so I can use the refund for Furi or keep it and have Inside on my laptop as well. It's certainly something I'm going to replay a bunch of times
Excellent thread yet again!
Seeing Stephen's Sausage Roll that far down makes me think that not enough people must have played it. It's one of the best puzzle games I've played in my life, and I can't believe I was hesitant for so long because of the price.
Yeah, there was a GOT-mid-Y thread over at GWJ and I was a little surprised to see Stephen's Sausage Roll land my #1 spot this year.
I think the lo-fi presentation (glorious) and the price tag turned many away. Shame as the last time I remember playing a puzzler that felt so deliberate and ingenious was OG Portal years and years ago.
SSR will easily go down as the Best Game of 2016 that no one played.
This is VERY similar to Banished. So much so it looks pretty much like a direct copy. The UI is basically identical in what it shows and how, even a few of the icons are very similar. It supposedly has a few new features added but i'm still not sure how i feel about it looking so close to it.
Banished was a good game and i certainly want more, but i'm not so sure about almost copying the game and just sticking a few new features ontop. Even then the new features don't sound like they're much of a chance - terrain editing, first person mode and a "Dynamic ecosystem" seem to be the most significant ones.
I am very fine with the idea of a Banished inspired game with more features/complexity as I thought Banished (Vanilla) was missing alot.
Besides, the whole argument about it is a bit weird... I mean there are so many city builders out there that get ideas from each other and why shouldnt someone who loved Banished create a similar game with better graphics to expand upon it?
Its like Cities:Skylines shouldnt exist because SimCity already exist, while it was obviously the inspiration.
Is simian.interface++ a good time or does it end up mostly just feeling like busy work where the solution doesn't require thought but just time and brute force? That's the main reason I held off getting it during the Steam sale. The price is cheap enough but puzzle games where there's no actual thought required is frustrating.
I'll pick up The Temporal Invasion since it's on my wishlist and a couple nice things said about it that makes me think I'd be into it. I saw the negative review on Steam mentioned the writing isn't good but if it's serviceable enough to ensure the puzzles make sense and instead it's just complaints about the storytelling than that's okay.
I am very fine with the idea of a Banished inspired game with more features/complexity as I thought Banished (Vanilla) was missing alot.
Besides, the whole argument about it is a bit weird... I mean there are so many city builders out there that get ideas from each other and why shouldnt someone who loved Banished create a similar game with better graphics to expand upon it?
Its like Cities:Skylines shouldnt exist because SimCity already exist, while it was obviously the inspiration.
I don't mean it as in there shouldn't be anything similar to Banished, having a game with a similar idea and theme is perfectly fine. The problem with this is that it seems to copy Banished in more than just the general idea, while games like Cities: Skylines are clearly based on other similar games, they don't copy even the idea/look of the UI elements and there are plenty of obvious things to differentiate the two.
The game focuses on a fictional police Department, where the player must act as a police officer, protecting yourself from animatronic robots, solving puzzles, hiding in shelters located throughout the play area.Closely monitor the battery charge the tablet, use the charger. Sure, but I dont think its inherently negative to copy a concept even down to this level. I mean the market is usually sorting that out anyway. If its too close to Banished, nobody will buy it and go back to the now cheaper Banished instead. If its different enough, the developer will add more concepts, then there are enough reasons to buy it, even if it very similar.
Sure, someone might call it "lazy" to not start with more drastic changes right from the start, but I am cautiously curious how it ends up and all this negativity without them actually infringing on anything is worse than the "evil" it tries to fight in my opinion.
Yeah, there was a GOT-mid-Y thread over at GWJ and I was a little surprised to see Stephen's Sausage Roll land my #1 spot this year.
I think the lo-fi presentation (glorious) and the price tag turned many away. Shame as the last time I remember playing a puzzler that felt so deliberate and ingenious was OG Portal years and years ago.
SSR will easily go down as the Best Game of 2016 that no one played.
I did not know this website. It looks cool to get some news about games.
Mr. Shifty looks like a cool Hotline: Miami clone/lookalike.
Furi has been a lot of fun so far, check that out if you have not on PS+ Gaf.
Softbody looks cool as well.
No Truce without the Furies looks kinda cool. Artstyle reminds me of Diablo a little bit (at least of the town), obviously not the same genre but it looks cool, ill keep my eye on it. It has me interested
Soft Body is amazing! And it dances between being both serene and difficult beautifully. Easily one of my favorites this year.
Furi kicked my ass last night. Granted it's not my type of game - I'm never good at games that require a lot of dodge/block/parry - but I really wanted to try it. Spent a while on the second boss last night. After about 3 tries I made it to the final phase and immediately died. Started again, final phase again, immediately died again...
That is where I am at as well. Something about the 4th phase gets me every time on the second boss. It is good but damn you gotta be on your game in Furi
I finished Anatomy, certainly worth checking out if you are a fan of horror and generally unsettling material. Must admit, I didn't find it as massively affecting as some of the feedback I have read but it is certainly an interesting experience and I will keep an eye out for future Kitty Horrorshow works.
I jumped back in, beat that boss, and the next two with relative ease. The bullet hell stuff is hectic, yet satisfying. Started to feel like things were clicking until #5 put me in my place again.
Cross-posting regarding Frost which appeared in the Recently Released section last month.
I am going to advertise a card game which I have just tried and which is actually not bad. It is a deck-building game, that I wanted to try after playing a bit of Cthulhu Realms from the Humble Monthly subscription.
It is a game called Frost, which was released on July 5th. You have to survive a given number of days in a frosty environment. To do so, you have to gather a number of resources each day. You gather resources by playing a resource card, buying event cards, or discarding a character card. There are fatigue cards to entice not to discard cards. If you can not fulfill the day requirements, you can also discard your whole hand, losing a day but not getting additional fatigue cards.
There is a demo on Steam: steam://install/493940
The game is currently cheaper at Humble store (it comes with a Steam key), and you can get 10% additional discount rate if you are a Humble Monthly subscriber, which makes it 5.25€ instead of 7€.
I have been trying to look for similar games on Steam, but the search function is a mess, even with the tagging system.
Done, and thanks for the reminder that it released! I am preparing a D&D session for my boardgame group atm (and knee deep into learning Go), so not sure when I actually get around to trying it out.
In a creaky old tavern, in a dusty corner of the video-game universe, a storm is raging. The barkeep gets a patchy phone call. It's hard to tell what the caller is saying, but this much is clear: someone in this tavern is planning a murder.
There are 6 patrons of the tavern; all of them are videogame genre stereotypes gone wrong. There's The Spacemarine, The Sorceress, The Platformer, The Fighter, The Apocalypse Survivor, and The First Person Perspective. By exploring their memories you may discover the identity of the murderer... or you may find a much darker secret
