Indie Games 2016 [July] Lets play some Indies!

Next, next week is totally stacked (25th & 26th);
Quadrilateral Cowboy, Obduction, Headlander, We Happy Few (early access), Hyper Light Drifter on PS4

Will probably end up only playing the first 2 at least for a while, but man it's going to be quite the month.
And then Abzu and Bound in August. This summer has been great

So anyone get RimWorld, if you were waiting for it to come to Steam?

I am getting The Eyes of Ara (July 19th) since Obduction won't run on my computer.

I will also be playing a bit of Magic The Gathering since the new DLC (extension of cards) is going to be released on July 20th.

Quadrilateral Cowboy, Obduction, Headlander, We Happy Few (early access) are for the week after for PC. Next, next week as you put it.

Now we can just say next week, haha.

Eyes of Ara looks cool. There was also Haven Moon which came out a week and a half ago, haven't seen much impressions of it other than the few steam reviews there are.

I have played it for a while but, as I try not to use any guide, I ended up being stuck early game. The game is quite similar to realMyst regarding the difficulty of puzzles: it is all about exploration and figuring out things, but in a kind of obtuse way very different from The Witness. The only downside so far is the absence of an anti-aliasing setting.

The Eyes of Ara is available.

That one looks quite interesting. Sadly budget is a little stretched at the moment so I can't fully justify getting it but I will slap it on the wishlist for sure. That has appeared at a weirdly appropriate time for me cos the other night I had this long chat with a mate about Myst and it has put me in the mood to play it or something similar.

Well butts, probably should've seen that coming. At least there's plenty to keep me busy until then.

Yeah, not surprising at all given the total silence since the last delay announcement (other than a few mostly VR centric impressions from E3 timeframe).

But honestly at this point I'd rather have the game with bugs and get it patched later provided the bugs aren't too horrible (which they probably aren't if they were even considering still shipping next week).

Mostly because now it's launching Deus Ex week, which means I won't play it until well into the fall now. These next few weeks were supposed to be my Obduction time. :( I can always turn to the backlog, but the motivation isn't always there, and I sometimes end up wasting my would-be gaming time getting lost down the reddit (or other internet) rabbit hole out of laziness.

Anyone picking up Zombie Night Terror tonight? Or better wait for Death Road to Canada?

Ah! Came to post that Zombie night terror was out. Picking it up right away, was really looking forward to it.
As for Death Road to Cananada, I probably didn't give it a proper chance (KS backer), but my first impressions were so-so to say the least (was quite an early version, with super wonky controler suport)

Try Eyes of Ara, or Haven Moon if you are really hardcore.

Obduction is delayed to the last week of August!

http://obduction.com/update-so-close/

I saw the e-mail this morning and just felt bummed out. Obduction is the game I'm looking forward to the most.

I had no clue about Haven Moon but it looks fantastic! I just might have to pick that up to satiate myself for a bit until Obduction finally gets released.

I've been playing Eyes of Ara and having a pretty good time. It's a lot like The Room. It's not the perfect game, but so few games like this are made that I take what I can get. There's been a few puzzles that were a little irritating and felt out of place, but the majority of them are solid. I'm at what I suspect is the end, but I'm trying to collect all the optional stuff first. I've pretty much exhausted my search. I have a few suspicious areas where I'm sure there's more, but I have no in-game clues to go on.

I thought about making a thread for Eyes of Ara. Besides the fact that I'm completely incompetent when it comes to stuff like that, I know it would just be ignored. I absolutely love first person adventure and first person puzzler games, but outside of a few stand-out or classic titles few on this board seems to care about them.

Eyes of Ara is slated for mobile too. I'll probably wait for it on iPad

I briefly checked to see if there was going to be an ios release but didn't see anything. You can really tell it was designed with touch controls in mind. Switches, knobs, and dials behave exactly like they do in The Room. It should feel pretty good on an iPad.

Feels like it's been in development forever. It was supposed to come to Xbox Live Indie Games at one point if I remember correctly. Hopefully a release date is not too far off.

The final build will be shown at Gamescon this August, and released soon afterwards.

I got to play some ZNT yesterday - slightly surprised at how it mirrors Lemmings design-wise so much. The animation is generous and fluid, and you can often watch in detail as the denizens interact with one another before you make your grand entrance. Something I didn't really appreciate in the screenshots. Some things are an evolution of the mechanics in Lemmings - for example, instead of building a bridge piece by piece, you'll find yourself using a super zombie to toss his zombie brothers across. Same end result, but far less tedious. I've finished chapter 1 out of 4, took me a bit under two hours, but I can see the game amping up the difficulty as I get further into the campaign.

Hey all -- I'll be soft launching Arms of Telos soon :)

From indie dev thread:
Trying to come up with a new kind of competitive FPS game, yeah -- so, still a competitive FPS, but not arena shooter, not CoD-like, etc :)

3ac7xqy.gif

3JrpzIG.gif

The biggest thing that sets it apart is the movement -- you pilot a very agile spidermech in zero gravity with pockets of gravity in indoor areas and special magnetic surfaces, but you can also get going really fast to where it's almost a racing hybrid (even have time trial racing mode with online leaderboards).

AU9ptH0.gif

Building around this fast movement system, I've made a custom variant of CTF. As you capture enemy flags, it progresses farther into their base so different areas of the map are utilized as the match continues and tensions escalate. There's also some additional mechanics since it's not based on how many times you cap the flag, but instead how much the flags are worth (there's team healthbars at top). If you stick around the enemy flag stand with their flag, it'll soak up more points and be worth more if you cap it. Final flag is a bit different, you have to defend the point as you deposit the points so the enemy has one last chance to make a comeback. Lots more small details -- need to make a video that explains it all.

On top of all that, I want it to have interesting weapons/equipment that'd make it stand up to other games alone. Want it to be more than pointing and shooting.

Stupid of me to take this on as a solo dev but I'd basically decided I was done with indie dev and wanted to give it one last go with my dream game before getting a real job :p

have a new website up at http://armsoftelos.com

Have friend helping with a new account system -- if he can get that done in time, trying to soft launch before Quakecon. It'll be on itch.io's new Refinery program (basically their version of early access). Steam Early Access in the future when I think it's ready for a larger audience (and has had a nice layer of visual polish).

I got paid today but I'm torn between a bunch of stuff. This and Inside in particular.

INSIDE does a lot of stuff great in terms of ambiance and puzzles. The game is about 4-hour long if you just want to complete it without trying to get every possible achievement. Re-playability is poor for the average Joe. Let us see what QC is all about for a fair comparison.

I'm not a big one for replayability anymore unless it's a rocket league/football manager type game.

4 hours is plenty long right now.

Inside is one of my favorites of 2016, but I imagine Quadrilateral Cowboy will end up being so too

They're such different games. But man, I loved Inside. Haven't been this into watching and reading theories and discussions of a game since finishing SOMA
