It's brilliant and represents the dream of what a Battle Royale is (which was a long desired concept). So of course, it nails its vision.
In a year where we got Automata, RE7, Gravity Rush 2, THREE Yakuza games, *barely audibly grumbling "and persona 5"*? No, I don't think so. And I play PUBG a lot.
Don't get mad but people said the same thing about DayZ, now look at it.
An Early Access can't be a GOTY contender, it's not finished.
It's more telling that a game with one map, numerous bugs, and not yet feature complete is easily in contention to be considered one of the best games of the yearI don't personally think so, but it's not a hill I'm going to die on. I just think this year has been too strong to give it up to a game with numerous bugs, one map, and still isn't feature complete.
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is a movie I enjoyed very much, but I wouldn't nominate it for best picture.

saying gravity rush 2 is a GOTY contender is way more outrageous than PUBG you know
Yea this year the competition is fierce. The Goty list is growing and we're not done yet.Persona is one of my favorite series but it has a ton of problems. It's on my list for sure but that fact that people like me have problems with it doesn't give it good chances.
I'm not voting if it isn't eligible. The whole concept of 1.0 is just so stupid. Many boxed games released in an unfinished state but because they are in a box then they're somehow given preferential treatment.
It is meaningless.
Yup. Gravity Rush 2 was nust boring. A complete slog. After playing it I stopped being mad about it not being on Vita.saying gravity rush 2 is a GOTY contender is way more outrageous than PUBG you know
Is it?
Maybe if it's complete by the end of the year. I can't count an early access game.

Not until it clears early access.

Yeah, if it releases this year I'll put it on my list for sure. Also why wouldn't it be a GOTY contender?
everyone knows multiplayer games can't be goty
All I'll say is if PUBG wins goty over something like Zelda or Horizon gaf will go absolutely crazy and riot. Trust me, I've been here a while.
Speaking of out of touch...There was someone in a thread arguing that PUBG is really popular but it isn't a big deal and that it will end up like other games like hearthstone/league of legends (LOL).
There are a lot of people on Neogaf who are very out of touch when it comes to games that are outside their wheelhouse. If it isn't their cup of tea, it may as well not exist.
i read this entire thread and still have no idea what "PUBG" stands for or what it is other than "a game," so i'm gonna vote no.

For a few outlets, sure. But I'd say Zelda is closer to the consensus favorite.nope, horizon is so far in the lead right now its sad.
By having arbitrary rules on what is eligible as an industry we encourage developers to rush their game out or simply slap 1.0 on it whenever is convenient to win awards and maximise sales when the game is hot. This is true, but when the developer themself say it is EA, then it should contend for GOTY.

To be honest I would be one of them.
There is a good chance the bubble is going to burst on this game before it leaves Early Access. Especially with the response to microtransactions.
I'd like to know the reasoning behind this.
