Is Support For VITA already dying? [Use the new thread]

Again, look at the first 6 months of the 3DS which people refuses to do.
We had a pretty bad ghost recon game, Street fighter, a stripped down pilot wings, a stripped down monkey ball, dogz, and a few others.

Yeah, I should've clarified. I know the Vita's launch line-up appeals to a broader range of tastes then the 3DS launch line-up, but didn't really understand how this combination of great hardware and software could sell the way it is.

For launch we have a great hardcore presence, puzzle, sports, racing .
The problem is that nobody, no matter what system likes dry periods.
People want to know that when they finish a game, they will have new games to pick from. They want to know that new games will be announced regularly.
It does not matter how big a title is on a system if people get nothing in the mean time while they are waiting for it people will not support that system.
Nintendo weathered the storm until they hit their Mario Kart and other staples, and price drop. The price drop itself would not even have mattered really if they had not gotten to the point where games were coming in.
Sony have been pretty damned quiet since the Vita launch, which is pretty damned stupid.
I know again that I am sure that they are trying to save up so that they can have a big presentation at E3 but at that point it better be pretty momentous because they are hurting themselves by not even engaging in rumors and innuendo and hype.

Thanks. That explains a lot.

Some of the best software released are just ports, unfortunately. The ports are of incredibly good quality, however, and really shine on the hardware. Having a platformer like Rayman Origins on a portable looking as good as it does is really phenomenal. The two big fighters at launch were nigh on perfect ports of the HD games and really shine on Vita. The fact that something like Ninja Gaiden can exist on a handheld (and is one of the best games ever made for XBOX) is impressive as well. Virtua Tennis 4 is another outstanding achievement. Ports don't sell hardware, though, so those are the types of games you might get into once you own the system.

Many of the other titles are new games in series that already exist as well. Uncharted is great, but not quite on par with the last two PS3 games. Wipeout 2048 is one of the best installments in that series to date, but Wipeout isn't exactly mainstream. Same deal with Super Stardust, Lumines, and Mutant Blobs. They could be considered the best entries in those series but they really aren't that big of a deal to the game buying public.

There are plenty of other solid but not necessary big titles like Motorstorm RC, Escape Plan, Fifa, Hot Shots, and Unit 13.

I suppose the main problem is that there are a lot of really good games available for the system but nothing really BIG that could move hardware. The Vita has a lot of good to great games available with very little crap, but nothing that would push people to buy one.

I think it's much better off at launch than the 3DS was for the first 6 months of its life but it's competing against 3DS of 2012. Still, I own nearly as many Vita games as I do 3DS games but I recognize that my tastes don't jive with the general public at large.

Agreed on all accounts.
I know the launch line-up is great (one of the best in recent memory, but that could be just my opinion), but just didn't get why the Vita wasn't selling more then it was. In the end, I guess it really comes down to the big-name titles and managing the flow of releases.

Thanks for clearing that up for me, guys.

Nothing at all is known about these games outside of a logo on a screen. You can't say what they will be because no one knows. How soon you forget Gran Turismo PSP being "announced" back in 2004.

And everyone knows how Resident Evil PSP and Saints Row 3DS went. Until we actually see gameplay of Bioshock, Ass is Red, CoD and Madden on Vita, I'll just take those announcements with a pinch of salt.

And I have a PS3. FFX? PS3. I have no reason to own a Vita. Games like Bioshock and AC are basically vaporware.
I think it's a bit early to call those games vaporware, don't you think? That implies they've been in development for a very long time and have never materialized. There haven't been any opportunities to show them off yet.

As for something like FFX, I actually think the Vita is the perfect home for "HD" versions of games like this. They tend to look better when shrunk down anyways.

Cool story mang.

Hiding behind a facade of subjectivity is borderline retarded. You can type that wall of vomit out but can't outline what you thought was wrong with the game mechanically?

Cool...story...mang?
People actually speak that way?

But, to answer your question so we can end this little thread jack of yours my biggest complaints were a) no multi player and b) when I play ghost recon this is not what I want, I want an fps. Also I was tainted by comparisons to Valkyria Chronicles which I really do not get though I guess in a very abstract way I can see it.
It just did not do it for me and as I said quite a few posts back, I just could not get into it.
I give it full credit for trying to do something different, and for flashing back to some older games I liked but just not my thing.

Bioshock Vita was in a paper design stage in October. That means it's not coming out for a while. Maybe vaporware isn't the right word, but if we hear nothing at E3 besides "it's coming", I don't know what to think.

Throw in low hardware sales and 3DS lighting up the sales charts, and it's not that outlandish that these planned games a year ago have been pushed by the wayside.

It's not outlandish, of course, but it's still way too early to assume that it will be cancelled outright.

I'm hoping it isn't cancelled, though. Would be a huge shame.

Shoot, look at games like Agent from Rockstar. How many years has it been that we have only seen a logo?

Until people outside of the developers or publishers get to play the game it is vaporware to me.

Haha, so you really think the Vita is just done like this without a future with big games?

This thread is like a romper room, my least favorite place that I just cannot resist in revisiting. Let it all out everyone. Cold showers, wet towels, brief sparks, warm commitments.

Oh OK, thanks for your opinion.

You really don't want to see the Vita succeed, do you?

I keep telling myself that I won't come back in, that there is no reason to come back in but it just lures me.

I agree with some of that.
I have learned that no matter what system it is, until I see the game moving and in action in some form It is just a warm fuzzy hope that is supposed to happen.

i am personally ready for more vita games. not pick-up-and-play but rpgs and campaigns and stuff
It's not as if those types of games commonly show up right after launch, though.

There's always Tales of Innocence R if you need an RPG now, though. :P

Sheesh people get so mad when you talk bad about something they buy. I think some people would be less offended by someone calling their momma a whore than saying the game system they purchased is crap.

Did I ever say that? No. I just said that the titles that they initially announced have had no news recently and that I think it's a shame. I also pointed out that the titles that are out right now are not for me.

Opinions. I want the Vita to succeed. It's a great piece of hardware. It's just not for me right now nor in the immediate future.

We're 2 months away from the major game announcement cycle of the year, speculating about the failure of system that launched 2 months ago with a strong lineup.

Not to mention a launch title that looks like this:

They honestly should have just launched it here at the beginning of this month.
Would have spaced things better and I think gone smoother.

Like others say it's too early to tell if the Vita will fail in the end, but it's got a *lot* of factors going against it:

*The system market is saturated (PC, iPad, PS3, 360, 3DS, Wii)

*There are no established system selling franchise titles coming out in the immediate future, and Sony's library just doesn't inspire the same kind of devotion and patience that you would get from Nintendo (You know you're at least getting some mario and zelda) or Microsoft (COD/Halo/Sports games are entrenched in the identity of the microsoft exclusive library) When you buy a Sony product you have Uncharted, and you might get God of War, Ratchet and Clank, a Gran Tourismo , A Ridge Racer, a Resistance title and a Killzone title. Not bad games but they just don't strike me as system sellers

*The lack of a UMD Drive is really bad. They had a huge cheap library of games just sitting there for the vita and they threw them out. Maybe I don't see anything for the Vita I like right now but I can go to gamestop and pick up some old games for like 10 bucks each and play those until something comes out that I'm interested in. Or maybe I have a PSP and a bunch of games already. If the Vita had a UMD drive I could just buy the system and keep playing my current games.

*It's *expensive* when you factor in the memory card...

It's an awesome piece of hardware but when I look at the game library and the price, well I just don't *need* it.

Well then I'm happy to play a part in history.

Failed systems are almost as interesting as those that succeed. It's like being a 3DO owner or something.
I think winning and failing doesn't really matter at the end. I have far more games for the gamecube than I will ever have for the wii.

Buying a failed system and having a dozen games I actually like is much better than buying a winning system and having roughly three games so far that I wanted to play.

Oh OK, thanks for your opinion.

I do of course because I'm going to buy one. Just questioning why it is being treated differently than other systems regarding game announcements. Also, the games announced now will be the games available when I pick mine up.

The Vita has been on shelves for 4 months. E3 isn't a sure thing, after all... How many big first party PSP games did they announce at its first E3?

Well unless they plan to repeat Nintendo' s Wii U flub they will not be announcing the new system, so the main crux of this E3 should be Vita and some PS3 staples.

I would say it is actually a pretty safe bet.

As long as FF Type-0 and something else decent are announced like an Infamous or Jak game, I'll be content. Handhelds are mostly JRPG machines for me.

Yup same here. Love the Vita hardware wise but it's not for me right now. It's a shame because I enjoyed my PSP and remember staying up till 3 or 4 in the morning to watch the original Vita reveal in Tokyo so I was pretty hyped. Unfortunately Sony just seemed to have fumbled the ball from then till now and my hyped fizzled out.

I've been with Sony since the early days of the PS1, but as of late they just frustrate the hell out of me with some of the decisions they make. The Vita has sooo much potential and they just seem to be taking the laissez-fair approach. It's almost like they're attempting the same formula as the PSP and thinking they'll be successful a second time around. Perhaps, but times are very different from 2004/05. Seems to me like they should be a whole lot more aggressive a whole lot earlier; these late launching, "slow burn" hardware launches....yea I dunno.

I was going to get a VITA day 1 ... I am glad I resisted the temptation now. I will wait this out to see how it goes before I make a rash purchase.

The Vita's going to be a slow burn... Sony has patience, and they invest in their hardware for the long haul. Anyone crying "Vita is doomed" is completely ignoring Sony's history as both a gaming and tech company... Vita's not selling well this week; who cares? The games will come, they will drive sales, and the system will succeed eventually, though no one can predict yet to what degree...

I bought my Vita day one because it has a wealth of great games I wanted to play (well, that and I'm a handheld whore, but whatever)... I played my PSP for 7 years despite all the "PSP gotz no gamez" crap hurled at it from shortly after that launch in 2005 throughout its entire lifespan. I'm still working my way through the great Vita launch line-up, and have every reason to expect to be enjoying the system for years to come... all this silly anxiety strikes me as completely ludicrous; take a pill GAF...

Anyone discounting Sony's CURRENT state and saying "Vita will be fine" is completely ignoring reality. This is a tough time for Sony, and the Vita is definitely in a tough spot.
