It would be awesome to play in English! Definitely one of the best psp games and by far the best realization of the series movement system.
Even though Marvelous AQL filed a trademark for Bakumatsu Rock, a rhythm game meets visual novel set during Japans Bakumatsu period, the PSP game will not be released in North America.
"If Marvelous AQL registered it, that probably has to do with the anime. We dont have any plans to do that title," said Xseeds Executive Vice President Ken Berry to Siliconera. "Xseed is not bringing over Bakumatsu Rock. Its like a visual novel with way too many Japanese characters to translate."
"We actually have another PSP title that we havent announced yet ," laughed Berry. This game isnt The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC which was previously announced and still in development.
If they let you switch between the two, I'm also glad the original's a choice. For the life of me, I just can't get into the newer dance-styled version. Has no appeal to me at all. The original, on the other hand... that's what I like!I like the new PSP remixes, but I'm really glad they let you select the original music too, because I have a major soft spot for the original compositions.

They will go back and do this but not try to reignite Grand Knights History?
Consider me sour lol
Seriously though. What is this?
omg, it looks horrible >_< (what an awkward gameplay...)

I piddled around with my PC-Engine Brandish in light of this news, the timing worked out that it got to be the first game to test out my Arcade Card with.
Anyway, I'll pick this up if it's true, but it seems like an odd choice. If they were going to keep dipping their toes into PSP waters in 2014, Nayuta no Kiseki might have been a better choice? I know they're sixteen games behind in the primary Kiseki series, but Nayuta is a pretty solid looking action RPG that (apparently?) only has very loose connections to the Kiseki universe.
Well Zwei 2 is Falcom's bestest game ever, so they should probably do that one. It's already on PC too!
It's cool that this is happening though.
Well... it's better than Zwei 1...Luka isn't lying. I don't know that I'd agree it's their BEST game ever... but it's in the top five! Zwei II is amazing.

Hydlide is better than Zwei 1.Well... it's better than Zwei 1...
That's about all I've got.
Hydlide is better than Zwei 1.
Zwei II was okay, but it just made me want a real sequel to Gurumin.
They're pretty different. Brandish is closer to Dungeon Explorer, or... like first-person dungeon crawlers, but with a different camera angle. But still pretty different. Even the Mystery Dungeon comparison Parakeetman gave is not exactly on the mark (it's not randomized at all, for instance).
Watching videos of the game is definitely the way to go. Here's the original trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32TC07hsWgY
Wow, I hope this ends up being true! I didn't know anything about Brandish before, but watching the video you linked was enough to get me very interested. I've loved the Falcom games I've played so far (Ys: Oath in Felghana , Ys 7, Trails in the Sky and Gurumin).
Not at all, I do like Zwei II, it just didn't have the crazy stunning impact on me as Falcom's other (not Kiseki) games from that glorious period did. I'll agree with you fully on the graphics thing tho, good stuff....But, we're kind of veering off topic here! And it sounds like we're pretty much just going to have to agree to disagree on this particular game.

Hey. Can you ask Falcom when they're going to do something with Popful Mail for me?
I'm about to give the PC-Engine version a replay soon, I just got an Arcade Card for whatever enhancements that adds (it's just smoother cutscene animation, apparently). And I'm still trying to locate a (somewhat) affordable disc-only Sega CD copy, sigh.I think I may have already at some point. I would *love* to see a new Popful Mail sooooo much...

I would be incredibly tempted to physically buy a PC engine if it didn't seem like something destined to break down. It's too bad that PC Engine titles suddenly stopped being added to PSN. The last one on there is YS IV and I want to play the Xanadu games. : (
I'd suggest trying to track down a physical copy of Falcom's original Xanadu Next PC release sometime -- it comes with PC emulated versions of both Legend of Xanadu games on a separate disc (as well as a really good Xanadu series music CD!).

Siliconera said:We actually have another PSP title that we haven’t announced yet…” Berry said with a laugh. This game isn’t The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC which was previously announced and still in development.
PSP localizations? In 2014??? And Brandish?????? That sounds like a custom-made troll prepared specifically for me... I'll take 8! No, really, I have an irrational love for this series and Brandish 4 is one of my favorite games of all time (even if it's one of the only games I have ever played that made me legit nauseous while playing it). I would love to see them remake the other games, as I doubt very many people have gotten to play... well, any of these games.
If we're talking wildly improbably PSP localizations, when's Fate/Extra CCC ;_;

(Coming from neogaf retirement for this, since I saw hits coming to my site from here.)
Because XSEED finished the script and Vanillaware told them that they didn't have the time to insert it because of Dragon's Crown. XSEED was not at fault and did their part of the deal.
No seriously in addition to the prior posts they don't even have the Japanese servers running anymore. The game's dead, it needs a port to a more relevant platform to be worth releasing now.The work was done. Dragons Crown is done. Time to REMIND Vanillaware of this awesome game they seem to have forgotten!

Falcom or not, the PC-Engine port appears to be as close to the original as possible with just the right upgrades; better color use, animated and voiced cutscenes scenes and CD audio.I actually managed to find a nearly mint condition complete-in-box copy of Popful Mail for the Super Famicom recently, which I have set aside for whenever the RetroN-5 comes out. It will absolutely be the very first game I play on it.
(I know the SFC version isn't generally as well-liked as the others, but it is notable as the only one of the three console versions to be developed by Falcom themselves rather than entrusted to a third party, so I'm REALLY curious to check it out!)
Video game consoles before that frail thing called PlayStation are surprisingly resilient.I would be incredibly tempted to physically buy a PC engine if it didn't seem like something destined to break down. I'm sad to see that XSEED kind of missed out the last good year of Steam visibility (aka the Greenlight flood and the upcoming open publishing). They're still big enough and offer a generally unique product for the marketplace that they'll probably still get decent spotlight coverage from Valve, but there's no denying that it'll be harder to be noticed now.XSEED never announced the non-Falcom Steam game they teased last year *rabble rabble rabble*
Wow, I had no idea the Legends of Xanadu games were included. That's a great deal. Then again, as long as I'm giving up the dream of playing these games on Vita, I might as well just buy the PC Engine games themselves and emulate them that way.

I believe it was part of the first "Big Box" version only.I'm not sure they are actually included anymore. At the very least, when I imported my copy a year or two ago it did not have any extras. Just the game and the massive instruction manual.

If you are interested in getting a PC-Engine, go for a Duo-R (or RX), most of them are still in great working order.
And hobbyists have taken up the mantle on providing repair services for common issues and adding RGB options for modern displays.
NeoGAF's PC-Engine community is a great hang as well:

I might be mistaken, but I recall that tease making it sound like it wouldn't be far off. It's been like 7 months now, I'm wondering if something went awry with that one. Kind of like Brandish the first time.
