Anyone like to recommend some good jdramas? I skipped pretty much the whole spring season.
I've been enjoying Futatsu no Spica which started last month. It's about a girl in a space school in Tokyo who dreams of becoming an astronaut after her mum was killed in a launch accident nine years ago.

I almost teared up when the little girl is handing her dad her "space ticket" so he can go on her rocket and they can go and visit mum in the sky ;_;

Also, it's a couple of years old at this point but I highly recommend Liar Game. It's by far the best J-drama I've ever seen and one which I think could really work as a UK or US remake.

for spring 09 i'd recommend shiroi haru, mr.brain, and boss. but only shiroi haru fully subbed, the later 2 yet completly subbed
anyone following current season?

not exactly J-drama relate, but just today I found out two things. First, there is a Crows Zero 2, and it's already out. Second, they are making a live action Beck movie. That's awesome.

Zeni Geba is pretty good. Reminds me of Death Note if Light was born poor and he's father was a bastard to him and to he's mother.

Waiting for Kareinaru Spy to be subbed. It's Tomoya Nagase (My Boss My Hero/Tiger and Dragon) new comedy series. Looks similar to Get Smart TV series.

Also gotta say I watched Ikebukuro West Gate Park a few months ago, it was soooo good which I would have watched it sooner.

I agree, Liar Game is great. Season 2 and movies are coming soon :D

Thanks I'll check this out.

Anyone got any really sad dramas to recommend? I've already seen One Litre of Tears.

Then you must Aishiteru, it's being subbed at Dramacrazy.net . Smile is another one it's about the main character dealing with racism in Japan.

I just checked out the first two episodes of Smile in HD and wanted to see more but found out that the subbers were being assholes, talking about "for every complaint there will be a one day delay" and now they stopped because someone was streaming it. Anyone know if the series is completely dubbed? I'd like to finish it.

Anyone watching "Call Center no Koibito"? I don't typically watch jdramas but I saw an ad for it in an anime and it looked like fun :D

Watched the first ep and it was pretty good. It's one of those "work hard and take pride in your job" dramas but it has it's own charm.

It's alright right now I'm at ep 4. The one drama I'm really enjoying this season is Ninkyo Helper the plot sounds a bit dumb but it turned out to be a pretty good series.

Guys, I just finshed Love Shuffle and Buzzer Beat. Can you recommend something else with good looking young people (not high schoolers) searching for love? The prettier the girl, the better.

finished majo saiban and liar game the other day. currently watching attack #1 (:|) and the second season of liar game. can you recommend me more series like LG and majo saiban. they are fucking addictive.

Anyone else watching Samurai High School? It's about a guy who gets possessed by a spirit of his samurai ancestor. It's so ridiculous but I find it absolutely hilarious. The main lead is really good at acting like a samurai.

Also watching Liar Game 2. The cheap looking game show sets return from the end of season 1 but that just adds to the awesomeness of the show.

SO excited for Nodame! <3 I just went to go see "Nakumonka" today before it leaves theaters (EITA<3), but Nodame is going to be absolutely amazing.

If i've already read all the manga and watched all the anime is the Nodame drama still worth watching? Is it the same thing again or is it pretty different like the GTO drama was?

Haven't read the manga, but I suspect it's similar to the manga. Its slapstick humor was pretty over the top sometimes, it was probably straight lifted from the manga. I liked it though. On minor annoyance I had: westerners being played by Japanese people.

haven't checked this thread in months and now I see there is a Nodame movie! awesome.

I came to post that the Rookies movie is out for thsoe that watched the series.

Seeing that they are making a third Trick movie reminds me how much I miss watching J-dramas.
Great thread idea, looks like alot of shows that I need to look into.

I saw the rookies movie on an aeroplane in November so it's been out for awhile now. Unless this is a new movie? The one I saw pretty much wrapped everything up though.

maybe it's the same one

I think I'm just out of the loop

I saw the samurai high school show on tv one night. It was hilarious. he saved a guy from suicide by jumping with him off the building and then flipping around all cool like. Unfortunately, I think it was shown on Saturdays or something, so it was hard to watch.

Is anyone else watching 泣かないと決めた日? Or should I say suffering through it? I mean, I'm enjoying it to an extent but it is so fucking hard to watch the shit they put Miki through. Goddamn.

Finished watching ORANGE DAYS/ オレンジデイズ .

Kai Yuuki (Satoshi Tsumabuki) is in his senior year at university studying social welfare psychology. At present, he is in the middle of job-hunting season. He is finding it difficult with no job offers so far. One day, he meets a girl who is playing violin in the campus. She is Sae Hagio (Kou Shibasaki). In marked contrast to her beautiful tone and attractive looks, her personality is somewhat impertinent. And to top it off, she communicates through very vulgar sign language. Four years ago, she lost the most important thing for a violinist - her hearing. As a result Sae closed off her inner self from the outside world. Kai finds himself on a date with Sae, in place of his best friend. Unexpectedly, he comes into contact with Sae's private side. Love, job-hunting, friendship... Setting a campus in spring as a dorama`s backdrop, it's the start of a glittering youth drama. --TBS

i totally recommend it. kou shibasaki played the role of the deaf girl so fucking good. watch it! especially if you like college settings and stuff like that.

next up on my lost: Bloody Monday Season 1.

I'm enjoying Cinderella Sister though that's a Korean drama. There's also Yabe Kenzo which is a spin off series of Trick J-Drama series. Very funny ep 2 was pretty good.

http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Keibuho_Yabe_Kenzo

Speaking of Trick series there's going to be a TV special plus one more movie. I'll be airing next month.

Awesome, I love Trick. And I didn't know Yabe got a spin off, I'll have to check that out.

I've recently started getting into jdramas. I quickly went through Densha Otoko and Nodame Cantabile, both of which I thought were pretty good.

Ones I'm watching now:

Sunao ni Naranakute - A group of people become friends through Twitter and love triangles ensue. (Drama)

Meh so far... I'll stick with it for now, but I'm not expecting much at this point.

Troubleman - Guy loses his job and goes home to find a yakuza member, rapist, murderer, and a man with a gun who has amnesia. Consequent episodes explore each of their backstories. (Comedy)

Very strange, but fun. It feels a little slow at times since every episode since the first one has taken place in the same room.

Yankee-kun to Megane-chan - A high school kid acts like a Yankee but is set straight by a peppy classmate who was once a legendary Yankee but is now reformed. (Comedy)

This is based on a manga series and feels that way, but it's still a good high school comedy. I like it.

Tsuki no Koibito - A high rolling Japanese business owner sets up a shop in Shanghai and pressures a local woman to become a model for his company. (Romance)

There's only two episodes right now, but it seems pretty interesting. I'm looking forward to how the story develops.

Mother - A woman finds out one of her students is being abused at home. She saves the girl by kidnapping her and living under the guise of mother and daughter. (Drama, Suspense)

Amazing. The story is so sad, but so good. Each episode is throwing daggers into my chest. The acting is amazing too, especially from the 5 year old girl.
;_; Ep. 1 Ending (Chinese subtitles) ;_;

Sunao ni Naranakute
-All stars cast, was personally really looking forward to it. Turned out to be a clusterfuck. Skip this unless you are a korean boy band hardcore.

Tsuki_no_Koibito
- Surprisingly accurate portrayal of Chinese-Japanese relationship and Shanghai. Plot is so so and fairly predictable thus far, but the people who are watching this drama is probably in on that from the start anyways.

I just finished Yasuko to Kenji and Proposal Daisakusen. Yasuko to Kenji is worth a watch, it's corny and over the top at times. Proposal Daisakusen has quickly become one of my favourites, very well done.

Came across a box of j-dramas that I ripped to DVD from VHS tapes I recorded off the international channel here, the quality is horrible but the shows are oh so tasty.

Starting off with "Homework" from like 1994 or 1995. So good.

This reminds me I need to start up on my drama watching again. I need to check out the Twin Spica drama that came out a while back.. not sure if it's any good but I absolutely loved the anime.

I finished both Code Blue seasons a couple of days ago. It's basically ER in Japan, with a helicopter. I recommend it.

Also saw the first Nodame Cantabile movie. It was actually a bit disappointing. Let's hope the second one is better.

It was alright, I was disappointed by the distinct lack of Lion though.

Been watching Tsuki no Koibito and Shinzanmono on the jdrama front.

Tsuki has been mentioned by others already so I won't say more.

Shinzanmono is pretty fun, Abe Hiroshi (who is too awesome, always) as a detective solving a murder in Tokyo but on the lighthearted side rather than serious. Each ep focuses on Abe investigating a different character (various shop owners) who had a relationship with the murdered woman who each have little mysteries of their own. Of course each case adds pieces to the larger murder puzzle. But more importantly, will Abe succeed in his quest to buy a popular shop's taiyaki!

Also been watching quite a few kdramas new and old that I won't mentioned lest I publicly admit how unmasculine my tastes are.

Watched it. Suffering through it is the right word, but I still kept watching. I don't recommend it.

is this thread still alive?

I have not watched a Jdrama since I guess Hana Yori Dango 2

so its been what 2-3 years?

please recommend me some new ones that are good?

is it harder to get them now that torrents are dead?

Shinzanmono recently finished. Abe Hiroshi. Can't go wrong with him.

I'm watching Keibuho Yabe Kenzo. I think it's funny.

If you have subtitle files in .srt or .ass format you just have to rename them to the same name as the file of the video and have them in the same folder. Then just run the video and it should show up. I personally haven't seen separate subtitles for this show, but I have seen some hardsubs up to episode 4...

I havent watched one since Zettai Kareshi.. the one about the robot guy. I've been wanting to get into another show, but have no clue what's out there. Any good ones that I missed? Especially ones with some actors/actresses from early 2000 or 90's shows?

In the past 2 months I've watched Densha Otoko, Zettai Kareshi, Regatta, Hataraki Man, My Girl (Mai Garu), Hammer Session, and Tokyo Tower.

Going to look into this thread to watch another one.

@ Vicioussquirrel:

I've only seen the 1st ep of Freeter ie Kau so far with softsubs AFAIK. The drama is being hardsubbed by a fansub group. Not sure if we can mention names on here. But to get the eps hardsubbed from there, you have to be a member of their community. The lead guy from the drama is in a popular boyband just to let you know.

PM if you wanna know the fansub group name, but I'm sure you must know by now.

And for a REALLY GOOD recommendation you guys should watch Natsu Niji

I'm about 10 episodes in and I agree. To be honest, Japanese TV dramas don't usually do that much for me, but I really love this so far. Yataro is an awesome (and hilarious) character, and the actor is acting the shit out of him.

And if anyone checks it out, dear god, try to watch the HD version. The SD version looks like complete ass and isn't representative of how great it looks in HD.

Just finished the first season of Liar Game. Some of it was pretty cheesy, but the double dealing and plot twists were pretty good. I skimmed through a couple of chapters afterwards and it looks like they really changed things quite a bit. :lol

On to season 2 I guess.
