Yeah, they've been talking about this for the last week or so. I'm surprised a thread didn't pop up sooner.

I knew she like black guys. Ever since she was eating all that food on icarly and then she had got thick (in a good way) in real life. Now shes thin again such a shame but shes still really cute.

How come I always see really tall guys with short, petite girls. If I was a short guy I'd be pissed, taking up their options. I hardly ever hear a girl say they will go out with a guy shorter than them.

Anyway, if they are happy then power to em.

Why does a black guy dating a white girl make people so angry? It's so weird to see so much hate from grown men, who were never going to be able to date her.

Black Man/White Woman interracial relationships in regular western society are considered highly taboo, particularly amongst baby boomers.

Similarly, in Hollywood it's considered a career killer - White men don't want to see their crushes shagging filthy blacks. Various article have had actresses say they have to date certain people lest their career be jeopardized. It also heavily influences casting decisions - the movie Hitch is a famous example.

It's pretty common in Holland to have interracial relationships on tv and IRL (also black male/white female) Doesn't seem to be a taboo (although I must admit I do not hang with crowds who would oppose such relationships)

Did people react the same way when Michael Fassbender was dating that black actress?

Could you elaborate?

The production budget was $70,000,000. Smith alleged that actress Eva Mendes, a Latina, was offered the female lead because the producers were worried about the public's reaction if the part was played by a White actress (creating a potential interracial taboo) or a Black actress (creating a studio fear that two black leads would alienate the white audiences). It was believed that a Latina and a Black lead would sidestep the issue

Which leads to a lot of white actresses/singers having to do it in secret.

All pretty fucking sad really.

Not many or any iirc complaints about that.

This is true. Stick to tall girls people. hahaha

No because white male/black female isn't "controversial" among the majority audience.

I'm going to paraphrase someone I heard on the radio explain why he has problem with black men/white women but not white men/black women. He basically said at a base level women are the "property" of men and seeing men who were once slaves and lesser people with his women while he struggles to get one enrages him, while seeing a fellow white man tame a savage black woman doesn't bother him.

That's what it always goes back to for most of the people upset by such.

Personally I hope people who feel like that die alone, but that's me.

Eva Mendes was cast because they didn't want Will Smith kissing a white woman onscreen.
Cameron Diaz, the example in the article, is Latino, but the result is the same.

White Man/Black Woman is fair game. You'll notice that most interracial relationships on TV are of that variety. It's been that way for decades - Dorothy Dandridge and Lena Horne are two examples of Black women who said that dating/marrying White helped further their careers.

To be fair, when they cast Will Smith beside of Charlize Theron in Hancock that movie bombed terribly.

What? It did 650 million at the box office on a 150 million budget.

While you make some good points, this is pretty much bs. The fanboys don't like the actresses to date ANYONE. The second these girls get photographed with a guy, they're sluts and "she's mine" and what not. Doesn't matter if the guy is skinny, fat, tall, tiny, black, white or anything in between. She can't ever be with anyone, unless it's the fan that has the crush on her.

Things have gotten a lot better though. My mom told me there was a big controversy back in the 70s because a white singer put her hand on harry belafontes shoulder on TV.

Wasn't that movie awful? They're not "wrong" to cast that way - they're molding their product to its audience. (Much in the same way you get male protagonists in movies/games aimed primarily at a male audience.) The problem's cultural, and they're just businessmen responding to that culture.

Wow, what the fuck, i had no idea.
I don't think it's a big deal over here. I see plenty of interracial couples on tv and irl.

To be perfectly honest, and this is not intended as a slight against any country, we're about 10 years ahead of most of the world in The Netherlands as far as tolerance goes. We're not really a fair comparison given our societies "live and let live" mentality.

Its truth is neither here nor there - it's the common belief in Hollywood, which manifests itself onto the screen.

This is/was even an issue in porn - casting directors would warn white female porn stars that working with blacks on camera would kill their popularity with their fans. It still happens today with the higher end stuff, though Dynasty could explain more thoroughly i'm sure.

It was a joke. Christ.
Sure it was.
