Judgement Day: Too Human Demo Up Now!

duckroll said:
Why not? I think you really don't know what the word means. It means that in spite of the fact that <insert game> exists, it's still GOTY. It does not mean "if you don't include <insert game>. :P

There can only be one GOTY. So I can declare Carnvial Games GOTY despite all the other, better games that came out?

people lump games in all the time. not a big thing. dont get offended..

and i dont think sporsk was responding to that. he was responding to someone that claimed some people never gave it a fair chance, etc.

Who said I got offended? That'll be the day when I let something on a forum offend me...

Great job with quoting the useless tag though - high original...

What the fuck are you talking about. He played the demo, someone else stole his comments to troll on another forum.

The response he gave made me think that he posted that there - don't get your feathers all ruffled ducky, it was a mistake...

I did play the actual game myself, what are you talking about?

With the tone you responded with, I thought that was actually you on TXB, and not the other way around, saying that it didn't matter whether you played it or not...

My mistake...

Let people download and try the demo without a biased thread title please.
Biased? Not even close. Accurate? Oh hell yes. Might as well save some poor saps the bandwidth and time downloading this tripe. I regret ever downloading the demo personally.

If you feel that Carnival Games is GOTY, why would the other games be better to you?

Where do we begin? The game can essentially play as a generic hack'n'slash. Yes it has depth with customization, yes it has loot, but these are not enticing features if the rest of the game is lacking. The animations are not terrible but they do feel like something out of 2002. Some of the graphics raise questionable eyebrows. The artistic approach however is beautiful. Some of the best I've seen in any game, especially a dungeon crawler.

I feel that this game will receive decent reviews but it is not a game of the year contender. There are to many glaring flaws that a lot of you have already pointed out. It will be worth a bargain bin purchase. I may just skip it at launch.

Nice try Dyack but you haven't sold me on the game. It's flaws are far to numerous. Fun, but not memorable.

I'd love to finally try the demo, but the network adapter on my 360 is fucked. Fucking piece of shit. =(

Yeah, but it's NeoGAF, not AzureNightmareXEGAF. I found the demo boring and unengaging but I certainly don't feel like it irrevocably stole a piece of my life.

Just played the demo.

It was solid fare entertainment. Quality level for me is Overlord territory.
Random loot is always good. Always. The combat is functional though a bit slow.

Solid is often times boring though and that was definitely the case here. Graphics was serviceable, art was plain(!). Music seemed nice. Camera was horrible, Japanese fare press button to re-allign (only to do so every 4-5 seconds).

The demo was the beginning of the game I assume. Too many interruptions surrounding the slower crawling gameplay, I'm expecting the interruptions to ease down later. The game is serviceable, I don't think many will feel lost playing it but it was too stale for my taste.

faustus impressions (from some gaffer who really hoped that too human would turn out good)

graphics: not bad, but faaar from a impressive next gen visual experience (it has bad art , not so smooth frame rate, and uninspired arenas, etc yet i must admit it does have its own moments of "looking good")

controls: not as terrible as denis haters would want you to believe yet the combination of bad camera angles, imprecise collision detection/auto aim mechanics and unconventional control sytem make this non-fun for me (but i guess if you are willing to dig deep you might find the system functional)

story/cutscenes: i know the demo is too short to give a real idea but what i have seen was cheesy, cheesier than i expected to be (felt like a sub battlestar galactica quality space melodrama )

skill tree/customization: deep, deeep , deep with almost countless permutations of class/armour/atribute options. (the menu system not as streamlined as i'd like but it's a minor complaint)

overall: not bad(ambitious yet deeply flawed), might rent or give it another try it when it hits $30

Is there a penalty for dying? I died twice or so and both those times it put me almost right back where I was

So on a scale of Alone In The Dark to Call of Duty 3 (Arbitrary scale of 360 games),
1. Alone In The Dark2
2.
3.
4.
5. Ninja Gaiden 2
6.
7.
8.
9.
10. Call Of Duty 4 (I originally had "3", should have not relied on memory so early in the AM)

what ranking would most people give this game based on the demo?

NG2 is much better than COD4 IMO so IMO that scale is epic fail. I've had COD4 since launch day and I beat the game once, got bored with online and haven't touched it since. I've had NG2 for a month and I already have over 70 hours clocked on it.

I wanted to play this for at least a few minutes this morning..sadly I didn't get a chance to because I started downloading it too late. It hit 100% and the 'play now' came up on the screen just as I had to leave.

I don't think so, unless they do the bar scene as a flashback later on. The arm on display on whatshisname's desk is from the monster that trashes the bar.

Got to level 7 this time (almost 8). Didn't die this time either :lol.

I like how the weapons & armor you get are so random. last time i was stuck with a 40 dmg greatsword (not what I wanted to use) because the only normal sword I had was a lvl 1 with 1 dmg. This time I got a lvl 5 with 56 dmg. My armor was crazier too. i actually used the crafting mode to make some from the blueprints that dropped. Had bonuses like increased sliding length, armor bonus, pistol dmg, and lots of other buffs. Their is some armor & weapons that lets you equip runes to them, so you pick & choose what bonuses you want at certain times.

Oh, and I found that secret area finally. It's at the end of the demo. Just press a switch on the left, and it opens up. Kill the waves of weaklings before the timer runs out to get the max amount of loot in there.

I'll take a break now. Man i wanna get that mid-air melee juggle down. I was hit & miss that last run.

Doesn't appear so. The penalty is seeing the same little sequence repeatedly I guess.

Silver here, so the opportunity to sell me on the demo right now has been lost. Doesn't sound too bad though considering overall impressions on the wider gaming 'net.

Ninja Gaiden 2- continuation, some good advancements but not a "WOW" experience.

Until you start the game over in The Path of the Mentor. Then it's just jaw-dropping, hard-as-nails, combat bliss.

NG2- Combat Evolved, believe!

Only penalty is you lose your experience multiplier, which will slow your progress down.

Edit: actually let me correct myself. I don't think there is a experience multiplier (besides the ones on armor). I do think some of your experience gained is based on your combo meter. And when you die, that goes back to 0.

and Master Ninja is even worse. I died on the first group of guys 23 times.

Or this.

Just played it and loved it. The graphics and animations aren't bad at all as played up on certain internet message boards, the music rocks, and the combat is pretty decent. It was definitely a risk taking the combat in this direction but it works pretty well once you get used to it. On top of that, managing your armor, weapons, stats and skills is as always addictive like any RPG. Definitely going to play through again today. Can't wait for the final game.

Wow, combat doesn't feel satisfying on the right stick at ALL. Whatever happened to button bashing?

Story is also really embarrassing. "Monsters tell stories of ME to scare their kids". Yeesh.

Didn't enjoy the demo at all, won't be picking up in August.

I'm a little terrified at the thought, yet at the same time looking forward to it.
But anyway to bring it back on topic, action games need, immediacy, control, and satisfying challenge (A.I.) all aspects which are lacking in Too Human but have made a generational leap in NG2 (too bad other aspects of the game didn't receive the same upgrade).

I died a few times, got fed up of waiting to be taken to heaven and then respawned .... is there anyway to skip that animation?

I completed the demo, I managed to kill the last big beasty you come across by somehow jumping on his head and splitting him in two.... I'm not sure what I did but it looked pretty cool!

this game is too boring to successfully deliver its payload of unintentional hilarity. i watch heimdall deliver baldur into 'freya's capable hands' with all the wink-wink-nudge-nudge salaciousness of a cartoon pimp, and i want to see more, but i can't sit through the awful semiautomated psuedo-dmc combat. i guess i'll wait for the highlights on youtube

I wouldn't mind seeing more of Freya, but not if I have to put up with the gameplay. You think there's any chance of a retool? Such a shame to let it go the way of LAIR...

You have to damage him to about half health, or you will just get tossed off. Then you circle around to it's back and press a. balance urself with left stick, and when you line up straight press the r stick up to slam your weapon down.

too human's undead polygon puppets are funny in about a dozen ways, but i particularly like the way their tongues are always fluttering between their lips like streamers in the wind

Nah, that was a Valkyrie

I'm thinking a plot twist is coming on. They've both got ridiculously large and bulbous lips, that when the guy went "she's beautiful" I laughed out loud; I thought it was a dude.

"Monsters tell stories of ME to scare their kids".

2znmhkz.gif

as expected, bland game play, cheesy story, horrible voice acting. par for the gen.

While this certainly won't win any GOTY awards judging by the demo, footage and overal press reception so far - it will certainly win a few awards involving horrible animation and souldestroyingly bad cutscenes ....
Hope the full product ends up being at least a semi-enjoyable co-op experience.

Same here I was thinking ''what is he looking at'' plus it's so annoying that they all look similar. Baldur is suppose to be the main character and he looks like the soldiers a bit to me. He doesn't look defining enough.

my impressions:

wait, right stick to swing the sword? What the hell of a retared decision is this? It really doesn't feel as good as pushing a button, expecially in a hack'n'slash game

animations are surprisingly not bad, but definitely not great. Your soldiers move like puppets, and the hunk guy runs in a simply ridiculous way

camera angles are all over the place; why does the game have to decide that I should stare at a huge statue while running to an enemy, when I certainly can't be bothered to act like a fucking tourist in the middle of a combat?

Lip synch, facial animations, framerate are all really average. Smoke and fog effects are terrible, and the enemies disappear when they're down. Great.

cutescenes..do we really need to go here? Certainly the worst aspect of the whole game

is the game to flunk? Not entirely. But it's average at best, and Dyack should shut the hell up

and nothing will make me change my mind about game's obvious PSX roots

Well that line was from a crazy berserker guy who comes along with you. I thought it fit. Not everything has to be shakespeare. He dies I think along the way. or did he bitch out halfway to 'rest'?

I still don't understand the skill tree. It is one of the worst skill trees I ever saw in this genre. And I thought it can't get worse than Hellgate: London....

i remember somebody on gaf was making fun of resistance for its cynical blend of ww2 and space aliens -- except that resistance is a good game, and it makes perfect sense when you're playing it. too human's cynical blend of fantasy rigmarole and bald space marines makes no sense whatsoever and is completely fucking hilarious. it shuttles between incompatible cliches with disorienting speed -- if suda51 had done this it would be brilliant

I was hoping that the game wouldn't completely bomb, but fuck; the impressions here and on a few other boards are not looking very favorable.

Doesn't look like they're going to get out of the red on this one.

Shakespeare? Hell, I'd be happy with Leonard Part 6. This shit is below that, unfortunately.
