Judgement Day: Too Human Demo Up Now!

Did you really have time to visit every other forum on the net since the release of this demo? Because that's really fucking impressive.

Most people on other forums are ranging from "it's aight" to "OMFG!! THIS GAME IS TEH UBERZEZ!!!" The one thing that EVERYONE can agree on is the camera needs work.

:lol But I can't find a forum yet that shares the same hate that you guys do for Too Human.

Not that I give a shit either way though. Just an observation.

Although it can work in either direction.

This shitty ass demo is on par with heavenly swords last year.

Dyack better hope that nintendo will take him back after he receive the pink slip.

How can you even compare the 2...HS lasted 10 minutes and some people, that take time to understand and play this game more then 5 minutes can play for almost 2 hours.

It's alright, the combat can feel good when you get into it but it's just too simple. That and the skill tree's pretty terrible, I've almost unlocked everything at 2 hours into the game?

I played the entire demo without going to GAF this morning... I wanted to have pure thoughts.

I liked it. I'm not sure how it will transfer to a full game, but I was really digging it. One thing I would change is maybe the vibration settings or something... something to make it more immersive during combat, because it just feels like im flicking people off from side to side.

And that's comes back to my issue. Not the story or the controls but the depth of content. If the 10 hour thing is correct then I can see how things like that could happen. Personally I wish less time was spent on the graphics and story and more on just the content within.

Tried out the demo. 45 minutes in, I just got to the area with the 3 gates.

The game looks great. Environments are really nice and the cutscenes are damn nice. Some sluggishness aside, I was really impressed. In fact, the setting of the game is by far it's best feature. It's just fucking cool.

Combat was okay. I got my ass kicked by the first arena room I tried. For some reason I couldn't pull off power moves at will and ended up juggling a whole fucking lot. Getting one of the grenade launchers is *REALLY* satisfying though, and adds a hell of a lot to the combat when your gun does more than waste time during a combo.

My biggest complaint is that there aren't any obvious reaction frames for enemies, they'd randomly go invulnerable to my wailing. And that sucks. Oh and the slide move definitely should have been incorporated into the roll button. Trying to trigger a slide and flailing randomly is not fun.

Camera is the worst camera I've ever used. Ever. And I know exactly why. It switches instantly, and still accepts input from the movement stick. Meaning that when you hit it to look behind you while moving, you end up running the wrong fucking direction for a bit. It's really annoying. Not to mention sometimes the camera locks up and sometimes it doesn't and there is no rhyme or reason for it.

Skill setup is a complete disappointment, even while expecting absolutely nothing from it due to the screenshots that made it seem obviously crappy.

Overall I think it's a nice game. Really like the setting. A whole hell of a lot. I fucking loathed every other SK game I've played, but they really know how to make something cinematic.

As some of you may know, I've been pretty excited for Too Human. After reading some impressions I became concerned that it may not be nearly as good as I have hoped.

So I loaded it up and at first I really didn't 'get' the combat. I kept flicking the Right stick to attack which kinda made it feel unnatural. Once I started to play it like Geomatry Wars and basically point at the enemies I had a much better time. When doing that while mixing up some of the flick attacks, the combat seemed much more fluid.

As far as the presentation goes, it not amazing but it's definitly not as bad as you guys were saying. I thought some of the cutscenes we're pretty well done and the voice acting was definitly average if not slightly better.

The loot system is pretty awesome. I got some huge ass sword that I only got to use a few times which was a bummer (Do the 3 challenge rooms, you get awesome loot).

Overall I was dissapointed when the demo was over, which is a good thing. There are some flaws yes, but I found myself really enjoying it anyway.

Played the demo all the way through. Took me an hour.

Pros:

Tons of enemies on screen at once.
Combat isn't half bad once you get a feel for it.
The graphics look fairly nice.
Norns were done as the Maiden, the Mother, and the Crone.
Loot.

Cons:

Animations are not great.
Camera verges on the horrible sometimes.
It really is like Diablo, in the sense that gameplay comes down to clicking (or shoving the stick) over and over.
Way too many invisible walls. Baldr can't jump on ledge?
Baldr's landing sound effect got really old, really fast.
Dialogue is mediocre at best, and downright terrible in some cases.

I do find it ridiculous that a game that's hyping it's cut in half co-op didn't bother to let us try out co-op.

Generally speaking, it was better than I expected, but not nearly as wonderful as Denis has been hyping it up to be. Oh, and the idea that I'm going to have to listen to Denis's Freshman ideas about the meaning of life as I play through the game makes me want to stab myself in the eardrums. Maybe that little speech by the Norns is it, but I sincerely doubt it.

It's best moments are when there are a ton of enemies on screen and the camera decides to play nice, which seems to largely be a function of making sure you stay in a nice open area. Odin forbid you're trying to use objects as shields from the air attacks while fighting, because the camera goes batshit. I got a real nice view of myself running towards the camera, which would have been great except it meant I couldn't see any of the enemies except the one I'd just killed.

All in all, I'd say -- from what I played -- that this is a rental. Not great, but not terrible.

Oh, and how the hell did you guys get killed so much? I suck at these kinds of games and found the whole thing to be pretty easy.

I really wanted to finish the demo after being so mixed on the game. It ended just before I was going to give up seeing it through to the conclusion.

Everything felt average. This feels like a game not unlike many other games I quickly glance past when looking over the rack in the store. So its not a steaming pile, but its not good or exceptional in any area from what was previewed to make me want to see more, and now that I have played the demo, its not something I would buy.

Guess I'm in the minority here. I was on the fence before, but now that I've played the demo a couple times this will be a purchase for me. It will be a good hack'n'slash dungeon crawl with an interesting story to boot.

Every single one.

:lol No, really just three. The official Xbox forums especially love the game for some reason (go figure?). PS3 Forum's Xbox section seems pretty indifferent about it. But they sure are enjoying you guy's reactions.

Okay I am fucking loving this game, the combat is fun imo (I guess alot of people are playing wrong?)

the loot system is really sweet and I just found some blueprints for a sweet purple rated helmet which has some crazy stats and looks fucking awesome. And the rest of the set.

The arenas are really fun too! I think I am just in love with the4 loot system, just from this little demo I gathered shit loads of cool looking weapons as well as weapons with crazy stats and the same with armour.

I did not want the demo to end :lol

Day one for me.

The game just feels...average to me. Painfully average, where nothing stands out at all. I played it, deleted it, and will forget about it.

I also think the right stick combat is really weird, maybe it just wasn't enough time to really get used to it, I was still trying to move the camera with it by the end.

Yeah. It's just a bad idea. It didn't work for Jet Li's Rise to Honor, didn't work for the Bruce Lee game and it still didn't work for Too Human.

1. Sue Epic.
2. Rile up the internets.
3. Use reams and reams of paper to print threads pointing out poor animation and overall unevenness of Too Human to present as evidence at trial.
4. ????????
5. Profit.
6. Write a book about it.
7. Profit some more.

Dyack...you genius!!!

:p

Is this the kind of banter that got you demoted from mod status?

The game doesn't suck. By any stretch of the imagination. Sure, maybe it's not for you. Sure, maybe the combat wasn't as deep as you were expecting. Sure, maybe the cutscenes don't look like Mass Effect. But it doesn't suck.

I can understand complaints about aspects of the game. It's not perfect. And it may not be the kind of game everyone wants to play. But to just come out and say it sucks and has no redeeming qualities is petty and infantile.

It only sucks if you focus on combat mechanics, level design and animation. But if you like to dress up dolls its pretty good i guess.

Making notes as I try it:

-character screen, getting thoughts of crap graphics in this game.
-opening cutscene, poor job of copying Aliens. Where's Ripley?
-wow, this can't be more than upscaled 600p, feels like the crap halo 3 engine. Camera sucks, you can't just look around.
-I actually don't mind the RS for attack with a sword, I hate button smashers so I'm okay with it.....problem lies with the camera. Feels like space gundam though with all the smashing.
-non interactive enviornment, 80's style caves basically you walk through.
-didn't feel like you get constant feedback on damage to mini bosses, became irritating so I just didn't care anymore that I died and just fired until I ran out of lazer and then stood there and smashed. No penalty for death is wrong in any type of game.
-I liked the weapon upgrades and I'm not sure what I am doing with this salavge cash just yet.
-the norse mythology stuff is just weird, there is a reason why religion is never spoken of in sci-fi movies because people have evolved past the silly stories. Dropping the term "midgard" or "Odin" by your friends who never die for some reason just cheapens it, even bald space marines know better.

Overall semi decent but nothing to get excited about, I'd give the demo a 7.4/10.

No I wouldn't pay full price for this game but I will look for it in the $19.99 bargain bin in a year.

I have this downloading while I'm at work, didn't really read up on it or even know that much about it until the Dyack meltdown, so I figured that was good enough reason to give it a shot. According to the impressions I've read so far, I don't have much to look forward to, but Dyack got my attention with his ways for me to at least try out the demo :lol

It's strange. I actually find the combat to be really fun. I like sliding from enemy to enemy, tossing them up into the air, jumping, and attacking them, the troll kill mechanic, etc. It's pretty exciting. I think I might get this game if I could find a decent deal on it.

I liked it too, I just wish it had more feeling to it, like more intense rumble or something.

OK, I didn't hate the game but I didn't absolutely love it. I mean the game obviously has some problems. I do not like the controls. They are too awkward. I also do not like the camera at all, it's pretty horrible. What I think about is....why do the controls for this game have to be so awkward when they aren't like this in other 3rd person action-adventure games. If you're just gonna have the RS be the only melee attack, then just map the attack button to one of the face buttons, like X button or something...(maybe X is used for something else later? I didn't get to that point if so...) and then give me control of the camera with the RS. I don't know, I'm predicintg 7.5s for it. If I can find it for $40 I'd buy it.

Okay just finished with the demo. Took me about an hour and a half.

IMPRESSIONS OF TOO HUMAN DEMO

First things first. Prior to the release of this demo, I had doubts about whether I VERY small doubts about whether I would get this game immediately upon release. After this demo, Too Human is a guaranteed day one purchase!

I really did believe, even with me never losing overall faith in the possibility that this would be a great game, that I would come out of this demo with many more complaints than I do right now.

One of the complaints I thought I would have is with the game's engine itself and just how much it would annoy me, especially when watching most cutscenes. It's not perfect or breaking new ground with it's awesomeness, but it's sure as hell a lot more better than I was expecting.

I thought the cutscenes were good to fantastic, much better than I was expecting. There were cutscenes on par with stuff in Mass Effect. They are handled so well to a degree that I didn't mind so much the look of some of the soldiers.

The game on a graphical level, especially in cyberspace, really surprised me and I wasn't expecting it to look as good as it did on my HDTV.

From the demo I felt that this is a great game. Not a terrible game, not an average to okay game, but a great one. The way the story is presented to the player is really well done. It doesn't come off as amateur by any stroke of the imagination, which is what I'm sure a lot of naysayers were hoping for. In fact, I would say more times than not I thought it was exceptional. With improvements to the engine and even better animation this game's presentation can truly go places.

I also underestimated just how much I would enjoy the lines of dialogue, especially those of the human soldiers that were accompanying baldur. The chatter from the team really helped the experience go down that much better. It gives me a really cool buddies telling stories on the battlefield type of experience, but in a good way.

The MUSIC IS INCREDIBLE - Nothing more needs to be said about the music to be honest. It's just incredible and I like the cool touch in how the music adjusts to match what is going on on screen. I heard a number of varied really amazingly done musical scores.

Gameplay.

Videos doesn't do this thing justice. I get so used to seeing all these unbelievably fast slides in combat videos that I really underestimated how truly rewarding it would feel once my speed started picking up on slides and as I began bouncing back and forth between more and more enemies. The combat is A LOT better than what I had anticipated and I am a person that already thought the combat looked like it could be fun.

Biggest surprise combat wise in this demo? - Killing one of those large trolls ACTUALLY requires effort on your part. You don't just hit the A button then everything is automatically handled for you, which is exactly how I thought it was. I originally thought, from videos, that this whole mounting and killing trolls thing felt cheesy or was trying too hard to seem cool, but when I try it for myself, it's nothing of the sort. You actually have to balance on top of the troll yourself so you don't fall off. You also actually have to be the one that moves the analog stick to make the killing blow with your sword.

I thought this entire process was handled for you the very moment you pressed a to get up on it's back so it's quite the surprise to see that you actually do this stuff yourself. You even have to backflip off of the enemy yourself

Combat felt very rewarding and I came close to dying 2 or 3 times during the entire thing until I found some obelisks to bash open to regain some health or managed to combo like crazy on a couple enemies to regain my HP. Trips into cyberspace really felt worthwhile. The loot gathering and speccing of your skill tree is really fun. I spent so much time going in and out of the equipment or skill menu. I like how the different items have varying looks to them. I saw some items appeared to have slots for runes, or at least I THINK those were slots for runes. I liked the charms and I even crafted myself a really cool epic helmet (or at least it had the color commonly associated with an epic item in wow)

Baldur's combat movements actually feel meaty as if Baldur's swings have some real force coming behind them. It's a subtle initial feeling of "he wont move as fast as you think he will" that makes the eventual contact with the enemy feel so good. It even felt extremely rewarding to knock enemies in the air then pull off an air combo. The combat at first glance or in videos may not seem as fun as some other games, but it really is.

I had more fun with this game than I did with something like devil may cry or even ninja gaiden 2. A comparison isn't proper since they are so different, but I felt like I could play this for a much longer period of time and that was a good thing in my eyes.

I really wanted to continue playing more.

BIGGEST COMPLAINT BY FAR

The damn camera. There really were times where I wanted to take control of it myself to spin things around either during action or just when I was walking around. I know about the other camera controls, but they didn't satisfy me. I really like how the camera focuses on important things that may interest the player, but I would also like to have some more free camera control. There are times when I felt the camera really held me back, especially against the troll. Couldn't get a good fix on him sometimes and it was making things much more difficult.

Art Direction

I don't care what anyone says, the game really does look great from an artistic perspective.

DENIS, YOUR GAME DELIVERS!

This will be a great game. Yea, some reviewers may like it and some may not, but I'll only be in agreement with the ones that do. I can tell this is a good game. Anyone hoping for the 360's Lair or Haze, will be very very disappointed. :D

This demo wasn't going to change the opinion of people that never liked it anyway, but I didn't anticipate it would make me want the game more.

Ok, here it goes:

I've never played a game like this before. No Diablo or any of its kind. I was curious about this, but not excited. But I found myself eager to get my hands on it because of the history of the games development and the constant discussion among the internet community.

Well, I've played the demo and I must say ...... I liked it! But not at first, really. It took a while for things to start clicking. For the combat mechanics to make a bit more sense. For the RPG elements to clearly show themselves.

Oh, and as for the camera? Definitely mixed bag. But if you use the camera that's higher up, I realy don't have a problem. Sure, you're far away from everything, but you can see everything clearly and the controls make more sense from that perspective.

One thing that grabbed me immediately was the STORY PRESENTATION, though. It never came off well in trailers and things I've seen online, but in the demo it all works TREMENDOUSLY well. There are even little things thrown in to give surprising dramatic weight to the events. The cinematics are well done, though not among the best I've seen. The graphics and animation and sound are all fairly good as well. It doesn't wow in those departments, but it doesn't dull the senses either.

All in all, I'm pleasantly surprised and intrigued at this point. In fact, I found myself HUGELY disappointed once I reached the END of the demo. I wanted to play more. Isn't that the best feeling that a demo can leave you with?

I couldn't agree more especially on the parts I bolded :D

I've played about half an hour of the demo -- I had to get back to work, heh -- and my only complaint so far is the camera, it's wonky as it is. I've tried switching them with the D-Pad, and it didn't make that much of a difference.

All things considered, the combat system is satisfactory -- though it does have that "get used to it" factor -- and the music and voiceovers are great. I'm still on the "buy" camp.

OK, so I played the demo. lasted a little under an hour. (not bad)

Anyone calling this a complete piece of shit is exaggerating. I was not high on this game before the demo but I found it t be a decent dungeon crawler with some unfortunate flaws that prevent me from recommending it to anyone but th hardcore loot crowd.

The cutscenes got a big 'meh' form me. I thought it might be cool but I couldn't get behind the execution of them. they seemed to be a little amateurish.

I think I would have really enjoyed this game more if it had a more traditional attack model with actual buttons being pushed. it would feel much more visceral and fun. as it is, it's a little unsatisfying and gets old quickly.

the lack of polish in animations, camera angles, voice acting doesn't help at all.

I suppose dungeon crawler and loot addicts could get past the negatives and enjoy the game, but I'll be passing.

I think you're avatar sums up my feelings for the demo.

Just finished my second run through and am enjoying it even more now picked up some different loot this time and changed my Armour up

I love how fast Baldur gets when you start to string together combos it's almost like a twitch shooter love it when loads of enemies rush me.

So I've only played it for 20 minutes because now I'm watching G4 but I liked Too Human so far. The setup is definitely different. Most 3rd person games use the right stick for changing the camera angle but Too Human doesn't. That took a little to get used to. I liked the combat, its definitely satisfying slamming these sick looking robots with a huge hammer and sliding around enemy to enemy. The gun play is alright, I would rather use melee but it looks to be designed to where you need to do both melee and ranged combat. The enemy design in that first level is pretty awesome. I can't wait to go back and try some more after the MS press conference.

I just played it and I honestly enjoyed Kingdom Under Fire's demo way more. The camera and battle system just don't do it for me. Guess I'll wait for Sacred 2...

Top Bottom
