"June Xbox One software dev kit gives devs access to more GPU bandwidth."

Historically the two consoles didn't launch within a week of each other, with the more powerful system being ... cheaper.

At the risk of comparing apples with oranges :) just let me say this...
Im not a big Apple fan, but... isnt Apple products typically less powerful in terms of raw power when compared with some top Android phones? So why Iphone / Ipad / etc are incredibly successful? Maybe raw power is not the only, and not the top reason that consumers considers when choosing a platform. Maybe its just one more variable, among others (price, quality of services, exclusives, deals, controller, etc)

lol at the people saying Spencer is all talk. He has been the head of Xbox for what, 2 months? Over that two months, here is what Microsoft has announced:

1) The much-demanded Kinectless sku for $399
2) Removal of the app 'pay-wall' that was so frequently criticized.
3) Games with Gold for XB1, emulating PS4s system
4) This GPU performance boost
5) External storage support

I mean, jesus fucking christ, what more can a guy do in that period of time? Hopefully Spencer gets the parity clause dropped and announces their plans for PC support in the next few weeks, so people can continue baselessly saying he is all talk.

They want the world man, actually the universe on demand for free.

^^ All of that stuff was probably greenlit in 2013, long before Phil "All Talk, No Action" Spencer moved in to claim all of the glory.

Ah, I see. So we are allowed to call Spencer 'All-Talk' while simultaneously ignoring any and all positive things Microsoft has done since he has taken over. Thanks for the clarification.

The problem is that the PS4 was (and in many of cases still is) the superior choice on almost every count. Your mileage may vary on the controller (although most of the DS4 haters strike me as people who never touched the thing or don't know how to operate the controller), quality of service (apparently Microsoft still hasn't fixed party chat), or exclusives (all of Microsoft's exclusives thus far have been disappointments and/or timed).

MS have been looking for a product with the Apple effect for a while now, they are failing hard.

With this and dx12 next year parity is looking like a real possibility.

Pure gold.

Those were fun (hilarious) threads to read, all of them. First it was the amazing "esoteric" esram, then it was SHAPE that was going to lend a hand with enormous Gflops of power, then it was latency, oh boy, latency was everything, after that 15 coprocessors were going to do heavy lifting... Then it was the CPU..

Now it's DX 12 and 8% stolen from snap.

We discovered that Esram is a band aid, and that the overall memory bandwidth really isn't that great, and PS4 has full Huma implementation. We discovered that SHAPE doesn't add any rendering power (lol) and that in fact the ps4 has an even BETTER audio chip. We learned that GDDR5 actually has superior latency. We learned that the PS4 CPU is actually stronger, equivalent to 2Ghz..

And we are already seeing the fruit. Multiplats have had the largest performance gaps we've seen in over a decade, and the first party Sony games are starting to really flex hard.

Ah, grim. I had you pegged as a god tier level grand master troll in that Forza Horizon 2 thread, but it turns out you're just a warrior. So disappointed.

This is good news all round for xb1.

Based Spencer. Shower us with
1080
p!

Pretty much. Big sweeping changes like your list don't get decided and implemented in two months, the vast majority strikes me as responses to them getting beaten in last year's Holiday period (and continuing to get beaten in most of the months afterwards).

Cuz gamez aren't gamez.

"Very few games on the Xbox One are 1080p."

--Posts list of games showing that the majority of them are 1080p--

"NO NO NO! I meant real games! Not indies... even though the PS4 having more indie games is a great advantage!"
You forgot one important point.

You were in a Metro thread and the question posed was something like "so going forward the norm will be 900p on the bone and 1080p on the PS4". But yeah, keep that little detail out ;)

The ps4 is the best choice when it comes to hardware. Software is a potentially completely different argument tho. It's all taste

Thinking about it, it's a bit odd that the portion of Kinect etc. that they're talking about takes a tenth of the machine's GPU to run. Seems an awful lot.

It took less than a month for Microsoft to include a headset with every XB1. It took them mere months to completely reverse their DRM/Always Online policies. Some decisions take a while, but some things can be done much quicker than people assume. Who knows what's going on and what Phil did or did not do, but I'm assuming you must work for Microsoft since you are so sure Spencer was involved in none of the decision making on these topics.

Why does it matter? A graphically intensive game is less likely to be 1080p on XB1.

Is this new? As in, is this extra bandwidth that is being freed up? or is this the same kinect 8% bandwidth being freed up that was reported in january, but only being implemented now?

No, the latest iPhone and iPad typically outperform the best Android devices for at least a few months. Apple are one company with one device on a strict upgrade cycle vs. several different Android oem making many devices on a loose seemingly random cycle.

Umm...actually Android is known for low powered phones too. Either way Android is beating the iPhone. What Apple has is the ability to sell their products at a huge markup so they are rolling in the money.

If the Xbone was going to be the "chosen product" despite less power, ala Apple as you say, it would have been chosen a year ago, not some time in the future.

I would say the PS4 is the "Apple" product here, the "iPhone" console. Borne out by sales.

that said I have a Galaxy S5, wouldn't know anything about that ;)

Thought the 8% was processing power, this is a bandwidth increase. Clarification soon?

Not really.

When a new iPhone comes out it is generally the most performant phone on the market.

Forget parity I think XB1 will overtake PS4 with these improvements especially when you factor in the cloud.

The Xbox One already overtook the Playstation 4 thanks to the cloud.

Direct X will just further the gap and keep the Xbox in the lead.

I think there was one from him, but we also have this https://twitter.com/postgoodism/statuses/439568280232013824

Things are always improving.
Oh yes i remember the thread about this, and the tidux rumor was something about gpgpu performance which thuway later chimed in. It's always nice to see performance improvements considering that when cross gen games are dropped, current gen has to cater to the lowest spec machine first. Basically it's a positive for both consoles.
Cort?

A even IF this is true and provides any benefit, we likely won't see games taking advantage of this until this time next year, likely the March/May releases of 2015.

The difference lies in high-end phones where iPhone destroy every other Android... think like phones > $500... can you imagine the iPhone sales with a $100 or $200 option like Android?

BTW not all high-end Android have better hardware than iPhone and the difference is small than PS4 > Xbone.

Microsoft announces something that will help, even if it's just a little, and the console warriors come out to play.

It's like people are insecure in their choice of gaming console or something. PS4 has the better hardware there is no arguing that fact, software/controller is personal preference so why does it always seem that when there is slight positive news for either XB1 or PS4 the warriors take it as a call to arms. Enjoy what your console purchase and quit telling people who differ from your opinion they are wrong.

OT. Glad to see that there is a potential boost in XB1 performance and I am really looking forward to E3

Thats why mentioned cod ghosts.

I meant we wont be seeing 720p X1 games when the same PS4 games are 900/1080p

I think Cod ghosts and BF4 where the exceptions.

We will be seeing A minimum of Xone792p/PS4900p

and Xone900p/PS41080p

With this GPU boost+ better tools I wonder what watch dogs what of been if it had access to them.

I guess we will see this fall or possibly 2015 (if devs only have got access it to it in june) what difference it makes.

Halo 5 will be your real barometer
