"June Xbox One software dev kit gives devs access to more GPU bandwidth."

I agree, but some of the comments from a few Xbox loyalists are cringe worthy.

Personally I'm not buying into this messiah image some are projecting onto him.

CERNY!
get in mah tub, beautiful voice, etc.....

it goes both ways :) and people seemed to enjoy it (i did too). Nothing wrong with people praising Phil Spencer now....
Halo 5 will be your real barometer
Everybody knows Halo 5 will be the best looking xbox one game Microsoft will show considering the 300+ dev team along with the astronomical budget. It's safe to say it will at least be 900p.

I'm guessing you dont know the difference between shitting on a game's graphics and using the same game as a benchmark to compare two systems.

Your clarification seems to clash with your suggestion that a list of games would lose merit because it could include Peggle 2. That sounds very similar to what you said.

I'd jump into this conversation, but I'm also a PC/multi-console gamer...and that seems to hurt people's feelings.

The "PC option" in no way improves the xbone's standing in the $400 category, despite "just get a PC" being often used as a diversionary response in debates between the two consoles.

It's unbelievable to me, the amount of people posting here with selective memories. As if liking and "praising" a corporate figurehead is a phenomena somehow limited to the Xbox camp.
I wouldn't liken Cerny to a figurehead since he had an active role in the actual hardware development of the PS4. Same thing with Shuhei Yoshida. Figureheads, they are not.

Tretton would the only one I see as fair game, but he's gone now.

Good to hear! Hoping this means most things trend towards 900p and 1080 and we can ditch 792 all together.

Next year's games should get a good boost from this.

You forgot one important point.

You were in a Metro thread and the question posed was something like "so going forward the norm will be 900p on the bone and 1080p on the PS4". But yeah, keep that little detail out ;)

He said that most of the games on the system were 1080p, that's what started all that shit in the metro thread. A mod asked for a list, which several people provided. Then people moved the goal posts discrediting the indie titles and started saying they were talking about "graphically impressive" shit titles. Idk why you keep bringing that thread up or mentioning it like you proved somebody wrong, tbh.

Unleash the P's !

What are we talking here, about an extra 100 gigaflops or so? I figure that's more than enough to render Conkers new fur tech!

Thanks. I can admit to not bringing up my points well enough sometimes but the majority of my posts are in reply to someone else; hard to go off topic if my post is in reply to someone else.

Anyway, people expecting 900p --> 1080p from this are going to be disappointed. Positive the boost won't be that big. Still good news nonetheless.

The difference lies in high-end phones where iPhone destroy every other Android... think like phones > $500... can you imagine the iPhone sales with a $100 or $200 option like Android?

BTW not all high-end Android have better hardware than iPhone and the difference is small than PS4 > Xbone.

Apple doesn't destroy Android phones in high end sales. It beats them true, but 'destroys', no.

Also I too was pointing out that the iPhone isn't the low powered phone that beats the high powered Android. That was the point I was debating because the analogy was made to the XB1 and PS4 that doesn't hold up under careful scrutiny.

As long as Phil Spencer seems to care and understand the gaming community, aswell as answer people on twitter or Xbox Live, I would say he is kinda like the Yoshida of Microsoft.

I dont know, maybe its only a good moment for MS, but since Phil Spencer got into the action things are turning very interesting on the Xbox One with the last update and the Kinect drop. Only the time will say, but if MS can keep it up with good decisions, their future will be bright again!

lmao
Are you seriously comparing him to Cerny? One of the veterans and legends of this business?

At the risk of comparing apples with oranges :) just let me say this...
Im not a big Apple fan, but... isnt Apple products typically less powerful in terms of raw power when compared with some top Android phones? So why Iphone / Ipad / etc are incredibly successful? Maybe raw power is not the only, and not the top reason that consumers considers when choosing a platform. Maybe its just one more variable, among others (price, quality of services, exclusives, deals, controller, etc)

wrong, the iphone 5s SOC matches or exceeds the most powerful chips available to android at the time of release.

OT: if it's not related to removing kinect reserved resources than it's either a really small upgrade or bullshit.

With this and dx12 next year parity is looking like a real possibility.

What are the benefits of DX12? How will that close the gap? I don't see how 'software' can compensate for hardware differences. Maybe I'm wrong though. Perhaps someone else can fill in?

I would not be one bit disappointed if they did balls out visuals at 720p. We already know its 60fps, so I'd take a resolution hit to get more fancy effects per pixel.

It can compensate for performance differences, which is dictated by both hardware and software. It won't make them even, but supposedly it will make the gap closer.

You're not wrong. Software can never eradicate the difference in hardware. This discussion is as closed as the great framerate non-debate. If the ps4 is 60fps and the Xb1 is 30fps, then the software is motion blur. No amount of motion blur will make 30fps better than 60fps.

Nope it will not close the gap. The role of software in this case is to make the hardware perform as close to its theoretical maximum as possible. Once both consoles are doing this, the gap mathematical remains constant. There is only one scenario where we would see the gap close. If the ps4 was performing at its theoretical maximum and the xb1 is under-performing. Unfortunately, this is highly unlikely because both consoles are still early in their life cycles. Performance updates are still being released but from a hardware perspective, that gap will never change.
