Is it any more ridiculous than this?

Considering we can train or least condition intelligent animals like chimps and dogs, why is it stupid that one could train and condition raptors, which the movies have always portrayed as chimp-level smart?
Not to mention it looks like those Raptors want to and would kill Pratt if he makes the wrong move.

These are good points and I do certainly agree. It's more to the fact that the carnivores have always been portrayed as antagonists in the films, so it feels inconsistent in that regard.

Anyway, it's just a minor complaint. The end product itself is what counts.

You know what I mean, more of the Hollywood cash grab with these sequels, remakes, reboots.

But this series always hits my nostalgia bone hardcore. Just re-read the novels not too long ago.
I know what you mean, but I feel this movie is not in that list of cash grab sequels, like Lost World and JP3 were. This actually looks and feels like a logical continuation on JP, like Aliens and T2 were.

Except the predators weren't the antagonists, humans were. The dinosaurs were just animals being animals, doing what animals do.

I actually agree with this. The premise is far, FAR less contrived compared to The Lost World and JP3.

This isn't "Ian, you're girlfriend is on the island!" or "Grant, let's blind you with money (yet again) because our son is on the island!", but is instead something that actually takes steps forward by showing a park that is fully operational and realizing the full potential of Hammond's vision.

I think with Trevorrow at the wheel it won't ever get to the level of JP3.

If Jurassic World ends up being better than The Lost World (which is a weak movie, but still has that Spielberg magic) I will be quite happy because I love both JP and TLW, so adding another film to my annual Jurassic marathons is a exciting prospect.

It just looks so obvious that Pratt filmed this in front of a green screen and the only real thing in that scene is him. If you're going to George Lucas a movie, just replace the actors with CG and the entire movie would look far more consistent.

Yes...

...So obvious that you're completely wrong. Pratt is actually on a set. The only things CG in that scene are the raptors. Check the larger photo from the last page for reference.

If the storyline was that he trained them from an early age, I could maybe buy it. It takes years to train animals like that. He just went in there and magically trained them, in a snap, not to immediately kill and eat him. It's stupid.

Except he's been an employee there for years, the park has been open for a decade when the movie starts and that's his job. He doesn't just magically train them in an instant and it obviously still looks sketchy as the raptors look pissed.

Since you seem to have some sort of inside scoop on the plot of the movie, you are well aware that the park has been open for about a decade, and that it takes place a full two decades after the events of Jurassic Park. Right?

And you know this for sure how? Because of the "Eyes on me -- good" scene? I'm not sure how that translates to "this is the first time I've ever stood in front of these raptors". You might be jumping to the wrong conclusion here.

If the raptors are domesticated, it makes me sad that we can't have a flashback scene with Muldoon and his "clever girl" line.

We will think Bryce is dead the whole film, but in the end she appears out of the nowhere, with no explanation at all of how she managed to get there, and saves the day.

She will be cloaked in a improvisational ghillie suit and have collected a jar of I-Rex piss, living in a bunker off of discarded Jurassic World churros.

I feel the same way. The issue is that I don't really see Universal caring to delve into this idea. I would love to be wrong, but I think we're just in for an hour 45 minute action romp across a chaotic theme park.

Which is fine too. I just want the film to be good. It can be good as a basic action-adventure flick, or something closer to the original, which elevated itself above that. Obviously I'd prefer the latter, but if it's competent at the first I'm fine too. I just don't want out-and-out *bad* films : )

Same! Whatever it is the movie sets itself out to be, I just hope it excels at it.

Re: the CG, I also have never been a fan of the more saturated/slightly stylized palette that TLW, JP3 and now JW are taking on. I don't think it complements the CG as well.

Dean Cundey and JP's colorists stayed with a VERY natural, muted feel and look, and I think it really helped sell the CG.

It's literally in his role description:
22 years after the events of Jurassic Park, Isla Nublar now features a fully functioning dinosaur theme park, Jurassic World, as originally envisioned by John Hammond. This new park is owned by the Patel Corporation. Owen, a member of Jurassic World’s on-site staff, conducts behavioural research on the Velociraptors. After many years, Jurassic World’s attendance rates begin to decline and a new attraction, created to re-spark visitor interest, gravely backfires.

This isn't a simple cash grab. It's a nostalgia fueled cash grab. The trailer shows the same scenes with a slightly different twist. The way they described the Indominus sounds like an altered version of Muldoon's Raptor talk from the first movie. Yeah, there are some differences, but the blatant winks to the first movie are loud and clear.

Nothing wrong with a few homage shots. Evil Dead pulled out to and it didn't detract from the movie.

I don't mind the homages and it makes sense that they'd put them in the trailer. I just hope it doesn't follow the same beats as the movie.

Some of the cast have said we (as in, the public) really have no idea where the script takes us, so I still have hope.

also, i find the idea of letting people sit in front of a gigantic pool with a hungry Godzilla in it mere inches from them so ridiculously dangeous it might work in a trash way

When we see IRex reflection that may actually be
him coming out of being camouflaged in front of them

Spoilers, bro.

Also, I thought that, but I'm pretty sure
her camo won't be THAT good. If anything, she could be coming out of camo behind them, so they notice the reflection once she's moving.

Eh, it has that usual JP-style electric fence around it. No more dangerous than letting them take a jeep right next to a t. rex paddock.

What's the worst that could happen?

I think what makes the whole training raptor premise ridiculous is the way the trailer gives the impression of Pratt's character barely handling them at one point and hunting together with them in a moment that probably happens only a relatively short time after that. Of course it could be just how the trailer takes these scenes out of their context but I can definitely see why people are turned off by it.

That's fan made. If you look Pratt and raptor fistbump

Ah OK.

It's hilarious how many people here have fallen for this gif. And the sad part is, they often don't come back after someone corrects them which means they probably still think this is actually going to be in the film.

Either way, it still looks shit. Including the idea of controlled raptors.

I'd place a bet on this movie being poorly rated, but does really well.

I bet the finale will be Indominus chasing Pratt and co into the Rex paddock. And our old missus will finally show up on screen and kill it.

Also the JW site says classic Rex has been living on the island for 25 years. Or was it 15?

Don't forget, water + electricity = :/

Also, while the render is kinda shit, this shows the design of the Dimorphodon:

m1SsgN6.jpg

Despite the quality of the render, I find the pitiful attempt at trying to give it a bit of ratty pycnofibers on it's back and head a bit irksome.
They would have had to have actually studied these things to have known about pycnofibers, and yet they still went about creating something that looks like a shrink-wrapped Flintstones character.

:/

Is there another adult lead besides Pratt and Bryce that would fill the same role as the Grant/Sattler/Malcolm trio? There needs to be a third lead so we can be scared that one of them will die.

Literally lol'd at the end shot. Various scenes we saw in the leaked trailers, along with a lot of new scenes. Looking promising.

I really don't think the trailers have shown much. We still haven't seen Vincent D'Onofrio, Jake Johnson, Lauren Lapkus, or Omar Sy.

Brian Tee and Irrfan Khan also apparently have co-star roles (one as the Muldoon-ish badass, the other as the park owner) but we don't know the extent of their involvement. And, of course, BD Wong.

Looking on IMDb, there are a number of (slight spoilers?)
INGEN military/soldier
roles cast, as well.

The dinosaurs definitely look like something straight out of Jurassic Park.

I don't think Bryce is going to make it so I'm already worried about her.

I think she at least makes it pretty far, based on the trailers...but I could see her biting it.

Obviously the most unrealistic thing so far is that they're letting tourists manually drive the gyrosphere things. You know that shit would never fly in a real life safari park, dumbasses would be bonking into dilophosaurs on purpose and getting stuck in ditches and driving into ponds like nobody's business.

Ok cool, interesting.

While some do, some designs look decidedly more retro (Dimorphodon, Pteranodon and Stegosaurs + Apatosaurus judging by the animations in stampede scene). I agree with some of the Dinosaur design criticisms for sure.

However, I really dig the Raptors, T-Rex and I-Rex from what we have seen so far. Mosasaur also looks great, though ridiculously huge.

I'm hoping for the best, but I don't think the artists worked with the right scientific team - and I'm not making a dig at the lack of feathers.
