The irony is, the people here in the real world are hyped for the new Jurassic Park because they want to see dinosaurs on the big screen. More than 20 years later people still want that. Noone is like "Oh, they made up a hybrid? Awesome! Real dinosaurs bore me now, but a hybrid? In my veins." But somehow, in thw fictive world of Jurassic Park, people have grown tired of dinosaurs and want a hybrid? It feels off.

I agree, I think they just wanted something to differentiate themselves or people would be complaining that it's just another sequel with the same thing.

In the movie's universe, dinosaurs have been real for that long. I'd bet there were tons of specials and documentaries with glimpses of the island's animals. You also underestimate the lack of interest in the majority of the target demographic.

I equate it with amusement parks adding faster, more dangerous looking rides.

They didn't want this to be a zoo.

I feel like I've already seen this film a few times. Completely unexcited by this.

Also made me chuckle that the moment I saw Chris Pratt and the Hispanic guy confronted by the Crayfishsaur, I knew Pratt would escape and the Hispanic guy was dead. Take that, ethnic minority workers!

Love this.

Yeah, I was against any raptor training or genetically enhanced dinosaurs at first, but it's all grown on me. Both make a lot of sense. As long as we don't have guns attached to them or cybernetics, or they can talk or look human, I'm okay.

I'm even okay with them actually being trained.

Can you list them for me? I'd like to check them out. Jurassic Park fully realized until shit goes wrong... sign me up.

Why do people think race is reason he was killed. I mean there are Asian and Middle Eastern folks in large roles with this film with seemingly native to the area folks filling in as extras/guards/park personnel. WTH.

Damn I shouldn't have read this thread.

Really really divided. Half seem to be: "this is awesome!", some are going "this looks like pure shit", some are uncertain, and there's even a few who seem to be questioning the intelligence of those who are actually looking forward to it.

Maybe I'm just too big of a JP fan to criticize it, but I promise you I criticized the fuck out of everything JP3 and even some of JP:LW I saw in previews and I don't feel that same cynicism here. So it feels like we're all watching different trailers.

I'm utterly baffled by the positive reactions in this thread. I'm sure the movie will be fun - I mean how can you screw up a concept like that - but the trailer just looks really bad.

oh, another "JP1 had better CGI" thread? i love those

::

i don't mind the idea of trained Raptors, i mean why not?
it's basically a Zoo and every Zoo has trained animals. Dolphins doing tricks, Lions doing tricks, it makes sense to me that they would try to train Raptors for shows.

I'm not sure why people are hating the 'trained' Raptors so much, I guess it's not outside the realms of possibility it could happen , I mean, he looks nervous as hell around them in the trailer.

It will be interesting to see how they explain it in the film, but the mor eI see the scene with him stood in front of them it makes sense.

Man a Jurassic Planet would be awesome!

How about not "Jurassic" to keep that shit out of the franchise. :p

But some of us don't think it does look bad. I'm confused as to why people think this looks like shit. So we're on the same boat I guess...just paddling opposite directions.

Because some of us aren't so cynical. Our favorite films that we loved growing up would be equally shit on if we as people behaved like this in the past.

"You can't use a whip as a grappling hook, wtf?! And what a shitty sound effect. Do they have to play that stupid song whenever handsome white hero comes to save the day? Leave the fedora, ffs!"

"The Alien looked way too stiff. Was there any character development? The movie was basically a slasher flick except without dumb teenagers to laugh at. And lol at that ending."

Was 11 when the first JP hit, loved it, will go see this at the cinema. Just my sort of thing! =D

So fake... They must have added the dude in afterwards with greenscreen. His shirt doesn't even have proper shadows on it.

Although it would be far too dangerous to film a shot like this with him in the raptor pen, so I understand why they did it. I hope no raptors were hurt during filming. :p

Some people are so hard to please...

"CGI is bad"
"kid actors can't act"
"shit trailer"
"trained raptors? wtf?"
"crappy animatronic's head"
"no feathers, no buy"
"this movie is going to be fucking horrible"

Glad I don't like in this pessimism world they live in.

I know... opinions and all that, but still, it's like all i see in this thread is that.

What's screwed up about it?

It ties in with "...didn't stop to think if they should", it has some homages to the original film and it has a hook other than 'dinosaurs escape......again'.

Why am I cynical if I say that it looks really bad? Maybe the movie will be fine, maybe it won't suck, certainly shouldn't be boring, but I didn't like the trailer. Heck, maybe this movie just isn't for me even though I liked the first two movies, I'm just surprised how enthusiastic some people seem to be.

What's screwed up about it?

No, I meant that they can't really screw up the concept of "dinosaurs let loose on people". Doesn't mean that the movie will be good, but at least I guess it should be entertaining?

Being baffled about people being excited is pretty cynical to me.

From what I've seen it looks 10000x better than the crap that was Jurassic Park 3.

So it can only go up from here.

But yeah, it could be a megahit or a terrible bomb.

either way I'm seeing it Day 1. Nothing can stop me.

Ok, I give up. What does Irrfan Khan say?

It will give parents nightmares

I thought the trailer looked bad, I come here and see that there seem to be some really enthusiastic/optimistic reactions and obviously that baffles me, I'm sorry. I also didn't really like the Mad Max trailers, so maybe I shouldn't have been surprised.

I don't think that makes me cynical though. Sorry, wasn't my intention to criticize or attack other people.

I forgive you

Maybe I misinterpreted your context, but your sentiments are shared with many who match my strawman in this thread. I get opposing opinions but seeing folks in and around my generation shooting everything down for laughs or overblown standards is saddening. It's like they've become numb to spectacle. I'm glad I haven't.

I still think back to the 2014 TMNT movie thread where someone expressed their disappointment in humanity because TMNT, a movie they didn't see but wrote off because it wasn't the same corny material as the original series, was projected to make more than the movie about a pompous ass in space chasing a ball while meeting whacky characters and teaching them about friendship (I enjoyed Guardians very much, but I hope my point is clear). Yet, when I saw TMNT on opening night with my son amidst a crowd of happy kids and their tmnt shirt wearing parents, I had a huge smile on my face in spite of that comment and those similar.

How low can one get?

Okay, I'll admit this was the best trailer thus far but holy shit at the notion of domesticated Raptors doing a Braveheart impersonation. Just go full-crazy and go Saturday Morning Dino Riders with this shit.

I really don't get the negativity around the raptors. Yeah they're supposed to be smart predators, but they're still animals. Shock them, feed them, ring a few bells, training them to the point that they at least wouldn't eat your face off isn't implausible

Yeah that's where I'm at with this.
Would be different if Pratt was having a circus act with fire hoops and shit for the raptors. Which isn't the case at all so far.

That's the beauty of the world, everybody sees things differently. Movie looks good to me :)

It's not that it's implausible, man. I just think it's a stupid idea, and shows what happens when a franchise is long in the tooth. No matter how well they execute it, it's just silly and contrived on the surface.
