Kay Plays |OT|

I liked the lastest episode, and it should be a fun series going forward.

I think the fact that Kay has more mobility in the game now is really helping. She always wants to search for things in games, and Tomb Raider was really limiting her early on. Also, I think she has figured out the game's story is not as deep as she might have thought, and she seems more than happy to poke fun at the silly bits.

PS: I reiterate that Kay starting Life is Strange pre-episode 5's release would be my ideal pick for her next adventure. Would like to see her theory of where it is all going.

Really liked todays longer episode. Didn't really like the Tomb Raider game but it's fun watching her. Makes me sad we prob wont get to see her play Bloodborne until next year since Taken King is next month and her bf is hooked on that destiny drug. Also MGS

I'm at peace with the fact that she'll never play Bloodborne. On the upside...Dark Souls III is coming to PC, so she can get her fix there. And so will we. Still liking her TR playthrough. It's fresh seeing Kay tackle a game that's unlike anything she had LP'd so far.

Damnit it's time to raise a collection to get her own PS4.

I'm discovering her channel and I'm feeling like watching her SotC playthrough.

Why haven't she played Ico first since it's the same disc ?

She played SotC, as it was the most demanded - above all others - from commenters. Sadly, it also seemed to one of her least liked. She was looking for more story, more meaning to events, but SotC was too vague/symbolistic for her.

She really enjoyed Gone Home though, and that is one of the better shorter LPs she has done.

Maybe she would have more had more story to investigate if she started with Ico firsts which gives some background.

Still, I'm disappointed she didn't like it very much. I love this game to the death and I felt like crying just watching her discover it in the intro episode...

I could see Kay really getting into The Witcher 3 and especially from a lore perspective with all the books. Think that game would really suit her style. Still, regardless, it's awesome to see her keep doing playthroughs :)

Based on her previous LPs, she seems to enjoy games with strong story where you have to root around to unearth the details - or at least something with a strong mystery vibe to it.

A lot of the YT comments seemed to tell her that if she liked Dark Souls (which was her first LP), she would undoubtedly like SotC, so i think she went into it with the wrong mindset.

I can see the similarities, both games are the product one's guy strong artistic vision, there is a he atmosphere, gameplay is key, story is not straightforward.
But if she likes playing detectives with clues, playing SotC without Ico is not the sensible thing to do.

And how would any self respecting fan suggest SotC without urging to play Ico first, it baffles me.

An LP of TW3 would never end if you're keen on exploring everything and reading everything. It's really not a game that hands itself well to an LP. Maybe a livestream, but uploading 600 episodes doesn't seem practical.

Her Story would basically be the next closest thing to a Souls game without the combat.

Otherwise I think someone recommended Human Revolution or something, which is good because it does have that straight up story but has fantastic world building and it also integrates really well into the player's experience and the themes of the game.

Has Kay figured out
she can upgrade her bow now she has enough bow parts? The message came up a couple of episodes back but I don't remember her upgrading it unless I missed that.
I'm sure she will be quite pleased.

She lost a bit of footage and did a lot of exploring and I think she upgraded during that part, because in the last episode when she was going through the upgrade screens she had all the bow upgrades including the key ring upgrade which is what I think she unlocked.

So... I've been catching up on Life is Strange, and I agree that it should be a perfect title for her style.
Tomb raider on the other hand... ugh. The latest episode had almost no commentary :/

Funny to see how aggravating this game seems to be for her, even compared to Souls.
I thought it was pretty easy and relaxing, and i've had much more problems with Souls games than her, my first time around.

man this series is so boring I need her to do bloodborne and solve everything 30 minutes. i get that her boyfriend is a destiny whore or something but surely he can spare an hour every so often to let her play, right? ;____;

Yeah the tomb raider videos aren't doing it for me, the game isn't engaging or deep enough and doesn't support Kay's trademark style of observant and thoughtful play.

That's fine, though. Not every piece of content needs to be enjoyable for everyone, and as long as she's having fun playing the game, it's not a waste at all.

Looking forward to her next project!

Kay finished up the Tomb Raider Let's Play today (28 Episode playlist here). Kay takes the time to talk about the game (likes/dislikes), and address some of the people complaining about her choice to do a Let's Play of it around the 40 minute mark.

In regards to Bloodborne, she said she does not have the time to devote to it right now on PS4. Next game will likely be PC, might be a retro game, and might even be a game she previously played, but wants to go back to.

I'm all for her returning to Fez. Edit: Missunderstood it as something she played before on a LP, but she means something she's played in the past and showing why she liked the game.

This will be the only episode of the TR let's play that I watch just to hear her address complaints. I don't care what she plays, I just wasn't interested in watching this one so just ignored it.

She has criminally few views on her videos anyway, but the Tomb Raider playlist stands out as particularly unpopular.

Here's hoping she has more success with the next run. I haven't forgotten her, I'm up to watch again!

Watched the bit after the finale and "it doesn't expect much from the player" pretty much mirrors my thoughts on why it was a bad choice for her to make an LP out of this game. The games that do respect the player and their time, trusting the player do make for the best LPs in regards to Kay's strengths of observation and deduction.

That said, at the end of the day, Kay absolutely should keep playing what she wants to play and she should have her own enjoyment in mind first and foremost. View it as she does these for herself, and if we're having fun following/watching, all the better.

Wow cool. What great timing. I just got into Life is Strange so it's great that Kay is playing concurrently as well.

Also Giant Bomb too. I'm glad it's getting attention amidst the heavy hitters of the season.

so life is strange is really good? I might play it before watching her videos on it then hmm

The only problem with LIS is that some of the dialogue can feel slightly off, but the overall narrative and story arcs are fantastic. Some people are aggressively put off by the language/slang in the game and cannot see past it. However, if you can let that slide the series is great. There is fun to be had both playing and watching people play it.

I am not a huge Let's Play guy, but I have watched the Geek Remix girls play it beginning to end, and am currently watching Felicia Day (Episode 4) and Giant Bomb East (Episode 2) play it. Now I am watching Kay play it.

I almost watched PewDiePie play it but came to my senses.

Very, very good, and this is coming from someone who enjoyed Telltale games at first but eventually found them disappointing, so I came into it jaded on the style of game, yet still loved it.

I wonder could we get a mod to alter the thread title a bit to make this the de facto thread for Kay stuff? Maybe change it to "Kay Plays | Life is Strange" for now, and then change it again when she move to a new game. Kay's output is not massive, and she usually takes her time, and takes breaks, so a mod would not have to change the thread name too often.

I'd be ok with that BUT ONLY IF Batman of Souls stays

Awesome, just played it myself and was very surprised by just how good it is, goty contender for me.

Also friendly reminder to kay that the bloodborne: the old hunters editor is out in a month or so ;)

Was very happy to see this thread bumped this morning! Cant wait to watch this after work. I just finished Life is Strange myself yesterday its all I've been thinking about since, so this is perfect timing.

I'm glad she's doing this one, I avoided having to buy Gone Home because of her play through of it, and I was on the fence about this, too.
I was put off by some cringe worthy dialogue I had seen posted around, but I'll soldier through it, since she tends to elevate games somewhat (again, see Gone Home).

Watched some of episode 1, and i admit i'm having a hard time tolerating the main character's voice acting, as well as some of the writing.
I'll probably soldier through though, see if it gets better.

The writing does improve after the games first episode. The only problem I personally had with he voice acting of Max is when she is fawning over artists which is really terrible.
