Two new crazy projects:

Sepiroth against Master Chief Video? I wonder what Square-Enix and Microsoft have to say about this... (Bonus: Watch the video, wtf?).

And this is what I want to see from Kickstarter. Not games for PC or iOS but games for niches. Who would not want this game for their Atari VCS2600 console?

Ok, you will be able to play it on PC/Mac/Linux as well...

These video game versus animations will be fully voiced stories that act as a fan-fiction and inspiration for video game enthusiasts and designers alike to make better and better video games.

There are no words to match my reaction to this.

Although not gaming related, it does include orioto's artwork (with permission!) as part of the demo. I searched high and low but couldn't find another place to put this.

I'm co-developing a community for artists and art lovers, called anipan.

gaf.jpg

Our goal for artists is to reduce the amount of time it takes to publish and promote artwork across multiple social networks and art sites, so you can spend more time being an artist. For art lovers, it's to make the experience of looking at artwork a much more engrossing experience, by exploring new and unique ways to view and interact with it. We aim to inspire creation and discovery.

We previously built MangaBullet, and consulted for pixiv.

Because we're international, we're over at Indiegogo. Please give us a look, and if you're able to pledge or help us get the word out, it would be tremendously appreciated.

indiegogo.com/anipan

Thank you :)

The fact that Kickstarter actually let this go through undermines any credibility they have of weeding out projects. Just looking at it shows that it's totally lawsuit bait.

Either Kickstarter also has automated the process or the people evaluating projects have no clue (perhaps because Kickstarter itself is growing to fast?).

But this is not a problem local to Kickstarter. Apple has the same problem in their App Store. So if the richest company in the world can't do it...

Oh boy. So successful scam?

Well less a scam and more of an dishonest approach I guess.

To be quite honest if I was eligible for Kickstarter I'd immediately set up a company and run a shitty yet convincing Kickstarter for a several thousand bucks. It's amazing how easy you can set up a Kickstarter that actually produces a crappy product for much much more money than it is worth. You might say that stuff like this is the new fart app equivalent of the app store when it first launched which made surprising amounts of money.

That guy will get sued out of existance if he goes to market with that product. I'll send the email to Nintendo myself.

I doubt he'll ever actually put it out. The Ron Paul supporters will get a delicious taste of what a true unregulated free market looks like. I can't wait.

That's the crazy thing, all he has to do to be legally in the clear is to change the sprite art just enough to be different. For example, I doubt that the Wario/Ron Paul sprite would be enough to be considered a copyright infringement. Obviously the Earthbound ones are so he would need to change those but otherwise he's making $10000 for a crappy 2d sprite game.

I doubt he'll ever actually put it out. The Ron Paul supporters will get a delicious taste of what a true unregulated free market looks like. I can't wait.
It would be so amazing if it turned out that was his intention all along and he's just trolling Ron Paul supporters.

What.
The fuck.

It's basically "pay me money so I can make fan fic"?

I mean... his fucking rewards:

PLEDGE $5: Vote on the ending of that battle, of which I probably won't use.
PLEDGE $25: a short trailer for this project.
PLEDGE $75: We can talk about me giving you a DVD, but no promises.
PLEDGE $200: I'll maybe let you use one of my animation props.
PLEDGE $500: Skype video chat, plus a model of one of the characters that you can maybe use.

Wow, you're sort of an asshole man.

Why would you want people to be scammed, even if you disagree with them politically?

Is it ok to post a game in this thread that's being crowdfunded by IndieGoGo rather than Kickstarter?
There's already an IndieGoGo project in the OP, so probably.

Because the outcome may demonstrate to them why their ideology is impractical and their faith in it dangerous. Call it a learning experience. The price scales with the importance of the lesson.

Seems to have added a few extra days to its deadline as well, if I remember correctly.

He has to put out the product or he'll get sued most likely that way also. I don't think he's going to be able to get away with not delivering at all. It's one thing if it's shitty or incomplete but not putting anything out at all would be actionable I think.

No, there are Kickstarters which haven't delivered years after the fact. To sue him you'd have to prove he never intended to deliver, which is exceptionally difficult if not impossible to do.

Yes, unregulated video game funding websites are just so dangerous! I mean, my god, these 214 people will be out of their entire life savings! Well, average of $50.

I mean, instead of a crappy looking HTML5 game, they're going to be getting a crappy looking HTML5 game done by a guy who is learning to program! The horror!

So much more dangerous than the government constantly raising taxes and taking your house if you can't pay (happened to my parents) or putting people in jail because they just want to smoke dope (#1 per capita prison rate in the world) or wants to constantly invade foreign countries for their own good (Woohoo, can't wait for that war with Iran!) or the constant devaluation of our currency, resulting in much higher food prices.

Nope, the real danger in life is unregulated crowdfunding websites. Of course!

Let's create a giant, overreaching government agency to regulate them. And give them a swat team and ability to harass anyone for virtually everything. We can call it the Department of Kickstarter Security

What is Thomas Was Alone?

Thomas Was Alone is an indie puzzle platformer about friendship and jumping. You guide a group of rectangles through an array of dangerous and puzzling environments to make it to the end. Initially planned for release on PC and Mac, the game is due out in late May / early June.

The game's received some fantastic press already, with very positive previews on Indiegames.com and Hookshot Inc, and coverage on most of the major gaming blogs. It even made The Huffington Post's top 10 anticipated Indie games of 2012.

A couple of previews:

http://indiegames.com/2012/03/preview_thomas_was_along_mike_.html

http://www.hookshotinc.com/thomas-was-alone-a-quadrilaterals-quest/

Who is Mike Bithell?

Mike Bithell is not a veteran game developer, and is in no way responsible for any of your favourite games. He is not afraid to jump on a bandwagon. He is, however, a game designer who's worked in professional dev for nearly 5 years, and is just about to release his first indie project, Thomas Was Alone. He hates talking about himself in the third person.

Where can I find out more?

http://www.thomaswasalone.com

Does this game really have mocap quadrilaterals?

Of course! Any other method would just be silly.

I watched the Your World livefeed after all.

It was.... predictably depressing.

"How can a new IP sustain free to play, may I ask? You're going to buy mounts, weapons, houses, collector editions... which, uh, you'll pay for... banks, pets, furniture, expansions, level unlocks."

I haven't seen this here, and it's ending in a few days so...

Chuck's Challenge 3D

Target: $12,500
Deadline: April 29

Chuck’s Challenge 3D is a puzzle game to tease the brain and challenge the fingers, walking through the evolution of gaming: move from A to B, collect items, the red key opens the red door, etc. But, like Lego, knowing what each piece does is only the beginning of the game’s fun, as players can also create and share their own levels using a simple paint-style interface.

It's worth noting that this is an iOS game right now and so this is just going toward a 3D version (and a PC/Mac release). As such, I have mixed feelings about backing this one. I have fond memories of Chip's Challenge, so there's also that.

Ironically, Monty Ohm (sp?) who did those videos was hired by Rooster Teeth and ended up animating different color Master Chiefs.

That's the same deadline. That's actually the controller I have sitting on my desk right now. It's not currently on track to make its goal, which makes me a bit sad.

Seems like Echoes of Eternia but maybe with some talent involved instead of using kickstarter money to outsource everything except the "easy" stuff. I'd consider buying it for $5 if it actually turns out decent, but I'm not confident enough to back it, especially given the total lack of details.

Legend of Eisenwald doesn't look half bad.
This looks pretty cool, but I'm not sure it's on track to meet it's goal unless it gets coverage somewhere.

I remember loving Chip's Challenge back in the day. My grandparents had it on their PC. Wish there was a WP7 version of this, I'd definitely pick it up.

Kicktraq shouldn't be used as a serious gauge of anything except raw data. The projection algorithm is trash. That said, Nekro probably won't make it. I just don't see what their target niche is with this.

OP has been updated, give a shout if I missed something.
I just saw this project, which I imagine will resonate here:
Boot Hill Heroes

It's a wild west-themed 16-bit love letter to SNES RPGs.
added.
Suprised this hasnt been mentioned here. Considering the nerdboners gaf gets for ios & pokemon.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects...ter-capture-game-for-mobile-devices?ref=users
added.
There is Gubble 3d. Hilarious video on the page (because it is so amateurish). They already got $75 in a day (lol).

And Kitaru which looks promising (and is multiplatform).
added.
Malevolence: The Sword of Ahkranox was cancelled.
removed.
Just noticed this game on Kickstarter, it sounds very good and I thought the intro trailer was great. Their goal is only $25k as well. Its estimated release according to the Kickstarter page is October.
added.
mrorange - unless im drunk, city conquest is listed twice in the OP.
your not drunk, removed.
OP, you should add Last Class Heroes to the list of funded projects. Just because it's so ridiculously good looking.

Gameplay shot:
added.
Here is another game. It is a physical card game (designed by the creative designer of Starcraft 2):

bah too much effort, in all honesty we should have just put it into a spreadsheet.

if you can re-order that list from descending final total feel free, I'll maintain it for new projects

Done.

I also request that Echoes of Eternia be struck from the list for being a scam and stealing assets (and its name).

Erythia: Shattered Dreams is working on a similar type of game without the blatant scamminess, for anyone who's looking for that sort of thing.

woah nice, I'll add it to the the OP, I'll remove the projects with scammed assets if anyone else also agree's that the projects seem unfit to be posted here.

EDIT: the two projects have been removed from the list
EDIT 2: Erythia: Shattered Dreams IS NOT a scam

Someone might come across the OP and assume it's a list of GAF approved and vetted Kickstarters. Without investigating the page pretty thoroughly they might end up throwing their money away on a scam without even knowing the facts. Better safe than sorry. PS: Only Eternia is a scam, was just saying that people would be better off funding Erythia if they're into that sort of thing.

I agree that the list has to be taken with a grain of salt.
But if you remove projects then you open a can of worms about other projects as well.
The Ron Paul game for example.
Not too mention that a lot of the projects might be over their head like YourWorld (for sure) or even Takedown and there is a good chance that not even half of the funded projects make it to a finished product (and even less of them to a well-received and -reviewed product).
