which a.) we can't judge on performance quality yet as it isn't out, and b.) wouldn't have made any difference for a decision made in 2012

True, but I thought you were implying that he isn't an actor. It may not be his main job but I think the guy has some experience in that field, well that's what it said in MGS4.

Then again MGS4 said a lot of things.

some experience as an actor doesn't really cut it when you're relying on facial and vocal performance like with mo-cop

hayter went from 1998 to 2014 without any acting work that wasn't voice over or a cameo role like in x-men according to imdb

the voice was getting increasingly difficult to do, and when we've seen him do the voice in person, he really has to contort his face to get it out

david hayter doing voice and facial performance was just never going to look any good

This makes it pretty obvious why they went for a real actor. No way Hayter has the same actual acting credentials to qualify him for full body and face motion capture over an accomplished actor like Keifer Sutherland.

EDIT: also the post above me.

The same could be applied to most of the other voice actors?

I've seen his face when he does his Snake voice and he certainly does change his face a bit, you're right. But there probably are ways around that and it's not like he's suddenly constipated.

Kiefer sounds more bewildered than excited by the whole project.

Every day he's probably thinking "The fuck did I get myself into? Who are these people? What am I reading? What's an easter egg? HOW MANY LINES?! Well ok then..."

I suspect that's one of the other reasons Kojima is supposedly making Snake speak less this time around. Aren't VAs paid per line? Kiefer can't be cheap.

'I'M IN A BOX? ...wtf is this shit?'

I hopped on IMDB and checked out Kiefer's page. Under his filmography they have MGS V: TPP listed as a 2014 release with no reference at all to GZ. Konami's release model for these two games even has IMDB and presumably Kiefer Sutherland's agent confused.

On topic though, I love Hayter's Snake but I'm a huge Sutherland fan too, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and remain optimistic for GZ and TPP

well given the examples cited like christopher randolph and robin atkin downes, they do more physical acting than hayter (randolph's imdb is a bit light but i think he does a lot of stage work), so they're still more qualified

i think if anything skull face's actor and anthony del rio are going to be the ones who stick out like a sore thumb

Man, they're really taking this troll pretty far.
:( its real isn't it

I wonder how much of the Metal Gear games he's read up on, if at all....I feel like he should have some understanding of the MG universe, not that many people do but still.

I wish Kiefer had played the previous games, especially MGS1. There's a lot of high-quality storytelling and interesting artistic choices in MGS1 that I think would intrigue and appeal to Hollywood actors. The descent into crazy town that came to a head in MGS4 would probably turn off a lot of those same actors, though, and if TPP continues the wackiness, Kiefer may write off the series as ridiculous without appreciating just how legitimately good it was at its peaks.

I feel like the Hayter situation has distracted people from the fact that Pat Zimmerman has been replaced as the voice of Ocelot. I'm just as pissed about that one as I am about Snake.

So true.

As much as i love Baker, i will really miss Zimmerman, he was amazing and such an icon for this series, almost like Hayter.

although, Troy Baker does a fantastic job too.

Does anyone know anything about it? why was Zimmerman replaced? was it the same as Hayter because of mo-cap? did they even ask Zimmerman if he wants to voice Ocelot again? it's funny and sad everyone talks about Hayter missing but no one about Ocelot's REAL voice actor.

Avi Arad recommended Sutherland to Kojima. Arad also said that Hayter is a good friend of his (indirectly) in the same video last year.

That means Solid Snake is in the game (That Big Boss artwork with 'hidden' Solid Snake in the background) or Arad isn't that good of friend lol.

Zimmerman is probably too old to play Ocelot, he'd sound older than Big Boss in the actual game. That's the reason Zimmerman didn't voice Ocelot in MGS3.

I'm guessing they went for an actor who would bridge the gap between Young Ocelot from MGS3 and the older Revolver Ocelot. Baker seems to have nailed it judging from the trailers.

It just gets worse. I kbow alot of you guys dont mind about sutherland. But i cant get over it.
It doesnt matter that hayter was good or not. It was an iconic voice. Imagine if they suddenly replaced homer simpson, or super mario? You cant imo

I don't get why people are upset about the voice change. The Boss isn't Hayter in MGS4 either. He's getting older, so his voice is changing, and I kinda figured that Sutherland is who they always wanted anyways.

I'm one of the guys who never liked Hayter all that much; just another reason I was tepid towards the series as a whole. The idea of actually being a stealth simulator excites me for MGS though.

Was expecting in the end like

"GODDAMMIT CHLOE!"

"YOU HAVE TO TRUST ME!"

There's a lot of high-quality storytelling and interesting artistic choices in MGS1 that I think would intrigue and appeal to Hollywood actors.

Wow.

This statement.

Wow.

Yeah Solid Snake will be voiced by David Hayter. The reason why they let Hayter in the dark for Ground Zeroes is because The Phantom Pain won't come out for a while so there is no need to tell him just yet, Solid and Liquid won't be in GZ, they will be in TPP.
I said it multiple times but just look at the E3 trailer, we never see Sutherland talk and Snake's face at the same time, just look at the scene where Snake rescues Kaz from Afghanistan.

Freakin genius but we already figured it out Mr. Kojima.

I'm getting a little tired of these actors who make such a huge deal about "white dots, tight suits and dozens of cameras everywhere". This isn't ten years ago.

Shocking as this may be, not everyone lives in the same world as you. Some actors haven't done mocap before and to them it is a new and exciting thing. Stop acting like your gamut of information is THE information.

Best theory I've heard yet. If this wasn't Kojima's plan all along he should read this post. He can have his movie actor and thrill the fans all at the same time with BB and a Hayter-voice Solid in TPP

hope some of you fuckers are prepared to eat crow when dumb theories are just that, theories

and dumb

That's what I always thought and I'm not even a fan of the series. If both main characters are to meet face to face i would be bad to have them talk with the same voice, and hayter is more the voice of Solid than Big Boss, I think.

Remember when MGS3 wasn't actually set in the 60s?

Or when it was, but it was just a VR tutorial for the real game which was a sequel to MGS2?

Or when Old Snake turned out to be a mask?

Or the Carnival of Stupid?

Or when Konami paid millions to show cutting-edge CG for a low profile TV interview?

Or the last time they actually did try to trick people and it took minutes for people to call not only their bluff but the celebrity voice-actor as well.

The thing about Kiefer imo is that his acting is very boring.

I would prefer Troy baker as snake himself.I am confident in his ability to care for his characters and give them some unique voice traits.

I loved the carnival of stupid.

Its not an iconic voice imo. At least not as Big Boss. If this was Solid Snake then yeah I would be agitated.

So you're saying thats Solid Snake who's rescuing kaz in the trailer?

I used to think it was super weird Hayter isn't doing it anymore but I don't really like Hayter's performance in Peace Walker so if it was going to be similar to that then it was time for a change. And now that I'm watching early seasons of 24 it's become clear Sutherland can put a lot of emotion into a subtle performance.

I absolutely appreciate Hayter's iconic work as Snake but I'm sure Sutherland will give Snake (Big Boss) a fitting voice, too.

The character is closer in age to Josh Keaton's Ocelot. Pat Zimmerman's wife is still doing the voice direction, so there's no drama there in my mind.

Well when you put it that way...

It's quite obvious that this time it's different! :P

I don't mind Kiefer as Snake. His voice is very distinct and authoritative and I think he could fit the role well. I'm also a big 24 fan though so take that as you will.

Well, I look forward to hearing Sutherland in the full game (not GZ, the real MGSV) and I love Kiefer as Jack so I will hope for the best. Not surprising that he doesn't watch any of his stuff regularly though, there's a decent amount of actors that do that anyways.

And I hope the insane David Hayter as Solid Snake in TPP theories are real. If he ever comes back hopefully he voices Snake along the lines of MGS1 again.

Yeah, if they were to both meet face to face for extended time then yeah I'd say Hayter should be Solid Snake.

Such a thing would probably be the only really satisfying way for this to play out, if we got to hear them together since while I really like Keifer Sutherland in stuff like 24 I've also loved Hayter's Snake and still do having been playing the games for so long.

I can't even imagine the reaction that would occur if we got to hear them both in the game.
