those 2 dont sync. their purpose says they want to capture him and then you say they want to help the affected. the awareness is 30%, awareness to make him famous or to help them because all I see is awareness to make him famous. No one has talked about the kids, the whole documentary is about Kony, the whole twitter and fb stream is about STOPPING KONY. Not a SINGLE....Local Activist or group from Uganda was shown who is helping the victims and you expect me to believe that. Look beyond the rainbow son because its not unicorns out there.

Don't sync? They are two distinct purposes. You would know this if you had read the link I provided.

Invisible Children's mission is to stop LRA violence and support the war-affected communities in East and Central Africa. These are the three ways we achieve this mission; each is essential:

1) Make the world aware of the LRA. This includes making documentary films and touring them around the world so that they are seen for free by millions of people.

2) Channel energy from viewers of IC films into large-scale advocacy campaigns to stop the LRA and protect civilians.

3) Operate programs on the ground in LRA-affected areas that provide protection, rehabilitation and development assistance.

so 30% goes to awareness on youtube which goes people to buy a kit to go against an organization which has about 100 people left and hiding in jungle? and the rest of the 30 (which is not a charitable) amount goes to Ugandans? Through the government?

We didnt see these operations on the ground in the video. there was not a single local affiliate shown or interviewed who provided proof of progress. IC has been around for 7 years.


Ugandans want to move on from this issue and you want to force it down their throat? what kind of thinking is that
 
This whole thing is hilarious. The people defending IC for keeping the majority of the money have no understanding of what's going on and only keep it up because they're desperate to defend their image as people who "care." Give me a break. Just like the appearance-obsessed hipsters on my facebook, who a week ago couldn't be bothered to help an old woman cross the street are suddenly Super Lead Event Organizers To Change The World™, you're concerning yourselves with what is currently a relatively small global issue. There are quite a few more important things that tend of millions of people should raise awareness for, like improving the availability of clean water.

Your attention grab isn't going to be the Twitter trending topic a week from now so you better adapt. Or just drop the act, that works too.

Are you deaf and blind? It's not solely about Uganda. In fact, Uganda is of very little relevancy outside of the assistance programs. http://www.lracrisistracker.com/

I don't think any money from IC goes to the Ugandan government, nor does it go to just Uganda. It goes to all areas affected by the LRA, which includes the DRC.

So people are buying into this scam? Shit like this does not just crop up out of no where - there is something behind it, we just need to figure out what it is (which is usually related to either military strategy, like moving AfriCom to Uganda for some reason, or gas/oil pipelines).
 
it's like people suddenly have power to change the world through Facebook and Twitter by using likes and hash tags. get on the fuckin ground if you want some real change.

Look, 'public awareness' is worthless against people like this kind of guy. The people in power, and people who can actually do something about him ALREADY KNOW about him.
 
This whole Kony thing just makes me face palm. Awareness is great and all but not when you are being disingenuous about it. The video does a very good job of misrepresenting certain facts and takes a very complex situation and makes it completely one dimensional as if simply making it a fad and posting it on your Facebook wall or buying a bracelet will magically fix the problem. All you have to do is Google things like "Kony Truth" and when there are videos actual Ugandan people criticizing the movement that's enough for me to question it. There are too many red flags from this whole thing to make me not support it and I will bet anything this blows over and dies off like any other internet trend.

1. Oh so after we were barraged with Uganda in the video it is not an issue anymore? nice. So what is the issue? the other countries? Have you heard of the Sudanese Islamist group? do you know what they do to their victims? Where is the $30 kit for that? He is a SMALL fish. he is like a local fugitive now.

2. But it has to go through someone right they dont give cash out. Where were the local affiliates which use this and help the people in the video?

3. Because the whole video is 'The White man is coming to save you' . Not a single focus was given to Africans let alone Ugandans. Show me the undeniable proof of programs to help family in action FUNDED by IC directly.

I'm not trying to say whether it is effective or not. Nor do I completely agree with IC. I do like me some facts though.

This single video is the focus right. led by a single group which isnt even a charity in my book, so it is relevant. they want to take down Kony themselves so bad we need to see progress

Not even public property is safe from this silliness.

Wow, while (as I stated) I'm usually very skeptical of these things I bought into the production and the emotive nature of the video. Looks like everything isn't quite as rosy as people think. Can't say i'm overly suprised, I guess we'll just and see how the campaign develops as more criticism comes to the forefront.

Saying that though, I do think it's heartwarming that people have really got behind the concept of the campaign, it's always nice to see people united to stop this kind of behaviour in the world (regardless of how relevent it is now).

What good is an awareness campaign if the information is misrepresenting and oversimplifying the issue, and wrought with extraneous, white man's burden, world-police manipulative bullshit? I'd say that 40 million people still don't know what's going on. What's really amazing is that the same technique could have easily been used to promote all of the US's wars in the past decade.

It's mostly maddening to see people fall for manipulative media so easily, and then attribute it so proudly to "the power of social media". The credit really goes more in their gullibility and general lack of critical thinking.

lol I just found out my coworker got caught up in the Kony 2012 hype. he donated $100 and bought the $30 action kit.
He actually said it makes him feel better about himself. Keep in mind he's a 35+ Hispanic male.

I just watched the doc. I guess it's good in that it raises awareness about one of the more notorious criminal pyschopaths operating in Africa. That's the only positive thing I can say about it.
 
Waiting to see which candidate/party for the US presidential election contacts Invisible Children for film production for their own campaigns.
 
The most worrying thing about a video like this is how easily the facebook fad generation buys into it all for the sake of self righteousness. A video like this could be slanted as hell but not one of them bothers to do any research into the subject they just buy into it just because of the way it plays on their emotions, where the way the video is presented with cliches and music matter almost as much as the actual video content itself. For the record I'm not making that claim about this video although there does seem to be some disagreement about it. I'm just getting a zeitgeist vibe from the whole thing, where people saw it and took it all in without ever once bothering to look into the subject themselves. Makes you worry about how easily people can be hooked in all in the name of a good cause. Come to think it almost reminds me of that Penn & Teller bullshit episoder where they get people to sign a petition to ban water :-\
 
How is it a slant? Joseph Kony enslaved children. That's all there is to it. If there was no evidence he did those things then I can see you saying this project is stupid but he did do those things so its not like everyone is up in arms about an innocent man.

I'm saying the bandwagon created by the video is worrying, not the video itself. The other day my facebook was filled with people spreading this video and there was tons of people posting comments about it, all suddenly becoming the most passionate activists on Earth after just one video. Not we get these youtube videos saying its bullshit and suddenly the same people are posting them and being dead against it.

All it takes is one video and the people follow like sheep. So while I'm not commenting on this video in particular, the fact that people jump on the bandwagon so easily is worrying because it shows that if the video or creator of the video has a motive, with enough flash production he/she can possibly get away with it.
