KOTOR II is FINALLY complete!

I downloaded it from ModDB with no problem (after logging in). Euroland, too (Firefox, if it matters).

By the way, is there anything I can do about the atrocious slowdown that happens whenever smoke's on the screen? I've tried compatibility modes, setting the affinitiny of the .exe to just one core, the "disable vertex thingies" trick... All to no avail.

Setting the AA to 2x (instead of max) improves the performance, but that's not an ideal solution. It will do for now, I guess.

Can't do anything about that on newer computers. Try toggling off V-sync, should give you some boost...

So... This game is 4.99 on steam right now. 1.8.2 and M4-78EP (whole new planet) have been released. Anyone play through this recently? I'm thinking of going for it.

I played through KotoR 2 for the first time this year, with the restoration mod. It's a really fantastic RPG, and I only encountered one or two really minor technical issues.

So is it recommended to play through this the first time with the restoration mod? I never play games with mods the first time through because I want the original experience the devs built.

Yes play with the restoration mod. The Droid's Planet is optional because the content was so unfinished, a lot of original content had to be created.

Thanks for the heads up on the patch. I installed the restoration mod and the widescreen mod a few days ago. Everything is prepped to jump right in.

Okay, I'm stumped. Anybody want to share how I find a pair of legs for the droid repair on M4-78? Have repaired the other two and it's the last quest on the planet, but I've no clue and I've spoken to all maintenance droids about it.

Well, it is old and lead on console...

The way the camera works caught me by surprise when I played it recently. It's not bad, which is probably why I didn't remember it, but still odd to go back to. You get used to that and everything else about the interface. Remember that you can pause at any time and issue commands/figure out how to do things.

The AI stays dumb though, I eventually just let them go off and get killed when they felt like doing that. No sense trying to wrangle them when you (eventually) wipe the floor with every enemy.

I'll be starting this soon, once I finish my Kotor 1 replay (just finished
the Leviathan
). I played through Kotor 2 many years ago, how much content does this actually add to it? Also, do you need to disable videos like in kotor 1 pc to get it to work properly?

Edit: well shit, guess there's a crashing glitch at the end of where I am after a turret section. That's not good.

I just finished this the other day. It was alot better than I remembered. I used to be of thought that KOTOR1 was clearly better but now I know I was terribly wrong. The first game felt like a typical adventure while the second felt alot more like a developed RPG. I wish there was another game like it, spamming force storm is just so amazing.

If you're installing TSLRCM try not to add too many more mods. I saw a list that recommended to play with Ultimate Saber Mod. While great during 95% of the game, it basically bugged the hell out of the final planet and I had to run to the bosses to finish it.

Ultimate Saber Mod is depreciated and is not compatible at all with TSLRCM. Too many things were changed, especially in the ending of the game.

I also beat this for the fourth time, and the game bugged out and never let me play the HK factory. I also installed the Corescant mod, but it fucks up the galaxymap and you need to delete the specific galaxy map files and the exit ebon hawk file. You can delete those and just warp directly to corescant and play the mod that way. It's like ten minutes of content of narshaddah and dantooine temple maps.

Also don't bother with m4-78ep. It's too buggy, you can redo some quests you've already completed such as rebuilding one of the robots, not to mention it's really really fucking boring.

You don't have to, but the balance of the game needs work. As such, it's fun to do what he mentioned.

I'm about halfway through my first playthrough of the Restored Content Mod. I'm tired of looking at this game pillarboxed, so I'm going to try the widescreen mod.

Guys, I remember KotOR's endings and I also finished the second (vanilla). But I don't remember... It doesn't carry saves, right? There are some questions you answer at Peragus, but the story carries on itself, right? With (KotOR 1 spoilers)
Revan going on a search by himself (or herself)

The story goes on in a specific way, but game saves don't carry over. Atton just tells you what happened and you get to go "no, it was actually this way" and that sets the stage for the rest of the game.

Great news, everyone! The widescreen patch works with the restored content mod. Some forums are saying it doesn't (even with 1.8.2), but I can confirm it works.

Works fine for me too same situation.

If the game flickers a lot during movies, or minimizes to desktop, you have to disable a second monitor and run it in compat mode for XP SP2.

Developed RPG as in the dialogue, characters, story etc. The gameplay definitely needed work. At the end of the first planet I could already finish fights without depleting my force points and after awhile nobody could even resist my spells. I tried playing on hard at first but at the beginning it was way too tedious as the enemies dealt huge amounts of damage vs my consular.

I did both the HK factory, which was awesome, and the M4-78 planet which sucked. I stumbled upon problems for both too. At first the quest for the HK factory wasn't updating even if I was facing hordes of HK-50's (that was clearly a bug) and the M4 planet wasn't showing up on the galaxy map. I reinstalled the mod and somehow it fixed both.

Though when it was time to do the HK factory, I got the old Telos cutscene and it fucked things up, I deleted a file and it worked.

That's what happened to mine, I got a cutscene of going to telos, someone going to the academy and the harbinger coming in. What did you delete?

If m4 wasn't on the galaxy map, you were using a mod that interferes with it. I know because I had a similar issue.

This game is amazing. Even back when it was just broken it was one of my favorites. No one does stories, characters and choices likeObisidian. I still haven't made it to the meat of the new content but I am really looking forward to it. I have already watched a few scenes that foreshadow some stuff that will happen later.

The biggest failing to me with this game (outside of the obvious end game issues which may or not be resolved... haven't played far enough to tell) is the abysmal gameplay balance. Your characters are invincible gods on their own... but taking into account upgrades, grenades, mines, stims and all those dialogue related boost you can unlock it's just ridiculous how powerful you become without even trying. Thankfully, I found an amazing mod for this as well!

http://knightsoftheoldrepublic.file...lasses_And_Gameplay_Enhancement_ARCAGE;117544

With this mod installed suddenly everything makes sense. There is an actual needs for combat stims, grenades/mines, upgrades (for making specialized equipment) and those dialogue boost are just so incredibly precious. All the characters feel unique now and hardly any of them (if you choose to build them differently that is) have too many overlapping skills. Suddenly I'm having to actually pause and really think about what party members to bring and making actual combat decisions that do remind me a bit of Baldur's Gate. Highly recommended mod!

Also on the topic of m4... I did install the mod. It should show up as a planet as soon as you leave Telos?

You have to go to korriban first and pick up a sith datapad. Then talk to T3 about it, then you can go.

But in retrospect I'd never play it again. it felt shopped and it was a bunch of fetch quests where you ran around a whole long snake map. The map was unchanged from what obsidian made, but I can kind of see why they cut it. It's fucking abysmally boring with nothing particularly interesting happening. It just drags the game down.

Dang, does it really work that well?

I tried my hand at modding this game to try and fix it and it didn't go very well. It's difficult because of the auto-balanced enemies and the random loot to predict how the battles turn out.

Edit: I see it doesn't fix that AC bonus nonsense that made me want to try in the first place.

Yeah, M4 was cut for a reason, I think. I recently went through and it was pretty much what I just quoted.

Bad minimap, bad fetch quests, chains seemingly broken or super arbitrary running around to solve minor problems, etc. And the plot just didn't really even make sense, or something along the lines to the final confrontation was lost/redone.

HK factory is fine, but they do end up throwing waves at you near the end, which made it not so fun.

Apparently you can save Vash....somehow. I have no idea because she has no lines on dantooine so it makes absolutely no difference.

So is this worth a playthrough from someone who beat KOTOR II over 5 times, 5 years ago? How many hours of content does it add?

The only major piece of content it adds is the HK factory which is like 2 hours maybe? I wouldn't say this really makes the game complete. They just ran out of things to restore.

Still, it might be worth a play after 5 years. KoTOR II is one of those games you can go back to.

I'm really enjoying it. Seems a lot of people don't because they want to have crazy amount of force powers, feats and skills. That's the biggest problem with the game though. It's not a hardcore difficulty mod, it just helps solve the problem of abilities/items just being there for the sake of variety rather then necessity. What AC problem are you talking about?

Kind of wished I didn't bother with m4 now... Don't want to uninstall since I might screw something up.

Not sure how I feel about the new conflict involving Handmaiden and Visas. I usually end up recruiting Visas on the first planet. At this point You don't have much influence with Handmaiden so I found you could get locked out of her arc by simply talking to Visas once...

I guess I'll just have to try it and see how it goes. I think a reason power players wouldn't like it is because they want to test our the power builds they've created on tough enemies rather than being weaker. Also, the number of force powers as shown in the readme seems extremely low. It seems like barely enough to cover the bases. It would probably work better if the powers didn't have so many ranks.

The AC bonus nonsense was that every class gets an AC bonus except Tech Specialist and Scout for some reason. So when playing on a harder difficulty, Bao-Dur and Mira die in 1 or 2 rounds on any hard battle since they get hit by every attack. It also makes further levels gained in TechSpec or Scout classes for those characters a huge liability.

The mod also seems to make the Base Attack Bonus for level much lower. I was always afraid of messing with that too much. Obsidian actually got rid of the BAB differences between classes. I wonder if that makes a difference. It's hard to tell because I think the enemies use a different calculation for their stats based on the autobalance file.

This is why I wish people would document their mods better.

Force powers are limited indeed. I like it though, you have to specialize each characters in different areas to get a balanced group.

Unfortunately this mod falls apart once you get Speed level 2 or Lighting level 2 just like the vanilla game... those skills are way to powerful. I'm using the autolevel file from Achilles's Game Balance Mod to beef up the enemies resistance to force powers and just make them a lot tougher in general. My exile can still tear through relatively quickly, BUT I do have to at least try to keep my party alive so that's a plus. This game is just so badly balanced, all we can really do is just bandaid the thing.

A bit off topic, but does this game just run incredibly shitty on any machine? On my new system this game runs really bad it certain areas... but the worse part is all the crashing, hard locks and BSODs. It's ridiculous. I really love this game but I'm finding it really frustrating to play. I don't have any issues in any game but this one. (3770k, 690gtx)

M4 was cut earlier. Stuff that was plot essentially got move to other areas, like Korriban

Just got to the HK Factory... this is the most god damn boring thing I've ever had the misfortune of playing. Why would anyone want to restore this piece of shit?

Pretty sure I just got a steam update to KOTOR II (yes two) that adds xbox controller support and more resolution option... What?
