Looking for Qix Like Games

Bastion

I recently played Qix and loved it. I also beat Fortix today(PSP Mini) and also have Patchwork Heroes(PSP) which are similar. What are some recent or past games on consoles or handhelds that play like Qix?

I also have an Ipad so any app suggestion would also be great.

Thanks!!!!

Gals Panic has always been my favorite Qix experience. I'm disappointed there isn't a Gals Panic XBLA, but I'm not surprised.

Was gonna say Patchwork Heroes, but you've got that covered. And good on you for being on of the few that do, fantastic game!

So I dunno. Gals' Panic? The art class minigame in Bully? Not really a genre ripe in imitators.

Offhand - and, I'm at work so I won't be doing any research into this - I'm not sure if there has ever been a console version of Gals Panic, which is a risque version of Qix with nekkid ladies (and, later, nekkid anime girls). Late entries in the series such as Gals Panic S2 have a lot of power ups and so forth and are genuinely good games beyond the gratuitous cheesecake. Fire up MAME and check 'em out.

I dunno about any in consoles or handhelds, but I can think of at least two Qix-style flash games.

If you're looking for an app, I saw an ad for one when looking up a flash game. Look into Fast Slice. It's similar in concept to Qix, but instead of filling in a box, you're cutting away parts of a shape with balls bouncing around inside it. However, this was shown as a commented ad for the flash game "Fat Slice" so there may be some deceptive bait-and-switch going on.

Still, hope this helps.

Couple flash games that play similar:

Light Flight
Very similar to Qix except your lines can be curved.

Filler
Hold the mouse button and you start making a ball and avoid touching enemies while you do so, goal to fill up a certain percentage of the screen. There's a slightly prettier edition of the game on Xbox Indies.

There's also Qix++ on XBLA, but I believe that has like half the game roped off as paid DLC in true SquareEnix fashion.

Wow that looks awesome. Seems PSP is the only platform it's available for and I don't have one anymore.

Maybe a stupid question but if I buy it on my PS3 can I play it even if I don't have a PSP?
Since it is a minis title, Yes you can :)

If you have an iphone, Dr Awesome is a pretty good Qix clone. And it's free.
This! It adds neat little touches as well, because all the patients you see are people in your contact list. I don't believe it's iPad native, but it probably looks okay at 2x.

Fortix 2 is also announced, but no date yet.

Gal Pani X. It's a Japanese PC freeware game. You can get it here: http://d5-dot.net/

It's so addictive... the name suggests that it was inspired by Gals Panic (a series I didn't hear of until long after I'd first played this game), but really it's its own game, with some major differences from other games in the genre. The game has some significant differences from other Qix games, but if it has to be compared to what I know of Gals Panic, which isn't too much, Gal Pani X is more like the later, anime-style ones, but better, I think. It's got anime art of characters from To Heart (mostly, perhaps all). There's no nudity, but it probably is NSFW due to the more suggestive second stages in each level.

The biggest difference between Gal Pani X and most any other Qix games is that you aren't stuck just moving around the outline of the area you have filled in this game, like you are in most Qix games. Instead, you can actually move around freely within the filled area. This doesn't mean that the game is easier, though -- instead, it's actually perhaps harder, because the game mixes a whole bunch of bullet-dodging into its Qix. You need to be able to move around fully within the filled area, you'll need the space to dodge all the waves of bullets, missiles, and more that the enemies shoot at you... the only almost bullet-hell-style Qix game? As far as I know, yes. :) The mix works very well, and results in an addictive and compelling game.

It really gives the game a very different feel from other games in the genre, and sort of spoiled me for them honestly... I mean, I do like the whole genre, but Gal Pani X is definitely my favorite. I've played a good bit of it over the years, really. I still can't beat challenge mission 2, though, because I've never quite been able to figure out the combo system. Oh well...

It's a challenging game, but it's got a good difficulty curve -- it starts out easy, and gets more difficult as you go, and as you try to master the game and learn its depth. Oh, it is in Japanese only, but the English menu option translates most of the relevant text, so it isn't really an issue.

-The game has branching paths, and you choose which level to go to after each level in arcade mode.
-You play a second, harder stage in each level if you 100% clear the first one. There are different endings (different credit sequences, pretty much) depending on how well you do.
-Good graphics, catchy music, good presentation for a freeware game
-Challenging gameplay that scales up as it goes. It starts out quite doable, but at its hardest is very, very difficult. The difficulty curve, and rewards for playing better, are done very well.
-Unique mix of classic Qix wallmaking and shmup-style bullet dodging that works well
-Lots of unlockables, hidden options to unlock, gallery mode images to get, etc -- it'll take a long time to get everything in this game. The "turn all hitboxes bright red" option that you can unlock particularly makes a real difference. It makes the graphics look awful, with all the sprites covered in red boxes, but it makes precise bullet and enemy dodging much easier and simpler. No more guessing about where, exactly, you can touch.

I admit, the To Heart characters did get me interested in playing it at first, along with the Qix gameplay, but it's the great, and original, gameplay that kept me coming back.

The same person behind Gal Pani X has only made one other game I know of, the pretty good, but extremely difficult, Gauntlet style game Sispri Gauntlet (that is, Gauntlet with Sister Princess characters). It's fun, but I'd like it so much more if there was saving, and continues... as it is it's insanely hard! I don't usually get past level two, and there are at least eight levels... and I'm not bad at Gauntlet. It's also available at the site I link above.

There's always Cacoma Knight for SNES. Fun little game

That's a fun one too. We need more Qix games, it's a pretty good game concept...

Really, about Cacoma Knight, my only major complaint is that the game is quite easy. For anyone with much skill at all in Qix games, you won't have much trouble beating the game. I definitely had fun while it lasted, but only the last stage was actually difficult; I did get game overs there several times, before I finally finished the game. Overall though, it's easy. Fun, but easy. Still, if anyone who likes Qix finds a copy for cheap, sure, pick it up. It'll be entertaining for a little while. Amusing little story, decent graphics, fun gameplay... the randomness of the treasure chest locations is a little annoying, but overall it's good. I just wish there was more to it.

Woah, that does look amazing. Great sense of style, and it looks like good, solid Qix gameplay, too. Looks like great stuff...

Fortixx 2 looks so much different than the first....and I thought the first was pretty good stuff.

i wanted to like it but had some issues with it. mostly the really weird and random slowdown and also just sort of the lack of variety. thought it could have been pretty cool though so hopefully they up the ante with 2

Like Astrolad said, Fortix has slowdown problems, and generally moves kind of ssslllllloooooowwww. It's unique, but if you want something snappier you might try Cubixx.

I loved it!! I didn,t notice any slowdown issues but there must have been.
Maybe it was a port of the PSP version? B/c the slowdown almost just felt built-in. Kinda weird. Anyway the game is cheap so I thought it was worth the price since I like Qixlikes (Gals Panic is way better though) even if I don't think the 60% at gamerankings is that far off.
