Lost Odyssey (Xbox 360) Official Japanese Release Thread

I see, honestly I think if you played the first one first though you would have liked it better. I personally loved the characters and plot. Sorry that you didnt like it. Though in regards to Lost Odyssey, I am saddened by duckroll's impressions where he states the plot isn't taken advantage of, given such a rich setting and such, and I hope by the end of the game this changes, as lost odyssey seems to have quite some potential for a plot.

yeah, its strange for me to say this, and maybe the concept is rather cliched, but I would quite have liked this game to have been a trillogy...the first game covering, the achievement of mortality/loss, the second game covering continuity/becoming a legend/foiling some major issue and the last game covering the culmination of life/endgame...its a fairly standard structure, but in a game environment, infact in any medium, if tackled correctly, it could be really well done... a very mature atmosphere as well...very few jrpgs have this, ffxii comes close though...

Actually I'm fine with trilogies when done right, especially when the third episode/part nails it and wraps up the story well. February cant come soon enough, im itching to play an awesome JRPG with a grand story so I hope this delivers.

yeah I agree..its just since the Lord of the Rings, trillogies have become ridiculously common

Duckroll Thanks for the opinions.

That said i kinda wonder what you think about Final Fantasy 10 story wise/game play wise.
Just want to know if your opinion of a game that i have actually played will match up with mines because it would help me trust your point of view a little.

Yeah, and these days things are planned as trilogies before even the first one comes out - like Mass Effect and Too Human.

Title: Lost Odyssey
Platform: Xbox360
Genre: RPG
Developer: Mistwalker/Feel Plus
Publisher: Microsoft Games Studio
Japanese Release Date: 6th December 2007
US Release Date: 12th Febuary 2008

I had no idea it was coming so soon. Damn I'll have to hurry up with Mass Effect so that I can get at least one playthrough of Blue Dragon before this game drops. I haven't even bothered to look at Eternal Sonata yet either.... wow, I never would have thought that the 360 would be so great for RPGs.

Not sure were you are tripping on FFX though, the game was linear, but did feel like you were partaking on an epic quest, the game wasnt always focused though....Yevon and heritics...? what are you talking about?
The leaders of Yevon not being sent to the farplane. Wanted to keep their place of power to push total control over the life of the citizens/followers. That was what I was talking about. Blasphemers would be a better word then Heretics though.

anyone know how it sold? sorry if it been said already, but this thread is too damn long.

It sold 40,000 on its first day of sales in Japan IIRC. The first week sales will be posted real soon in the next media create thread.

Just played for a bit more than one hour, I'm about at the point where DjMizuhara's console died for good, so hopefully I'll be able to do some new videos tomorrow.

The quest for truth and morality begins Feb. 12 when “Lost Odyssey” launches in the U.S. To help gamers prepare for their journey, Microsoft today announced that pre-orders for the highly anticipated title have begun, offering bonus unlockable content only available only through the pre-order program. Fans can now purchase “Lost Odyssey” pre-order cards at participating retailers.

As a special offer attached only to pre-orders, each purchase includes a download code for an additional mission and unlockable weapon. Pre-order cards will include this code, redeemable on Xbox LIVE Marketplace after the game releases. The download will be available to the general public later this spring, but the “Lost Odyssey” pre-order program is the only way to unlock this extra content on day one.

I hope/think those extra contents aren't worthwhile, because I can't pre-order the game being outside the US, plus I'll probably be done with the game much sooner than spring when they'll be available for everyone.

Still a nice move from MS.

I'm not a huge fan of the character designs but I do have to say that the mood the intro sets up is really appealing. I really hope I will enjoy this title. Duckroll's impressions are a little bit disappointing (story)...

You can have mine if it is, I'm not really the type of person that is a completist. I rarely (Ok, I never) finish all missions, gather all items, etc.

I'm surprised people aren't making a big deal about the voice-acting -- the English voice acting at least. It's absoultely amazing.

I don't have the game, but after I saw the E3 video, it was obvious Microsoft recruited some serious talent for the game's voice overs and it's apparent in the recent Jansen/Princess video uploaded to YouTube.

I don't play too many JRPGs outside of your Final Fantasies and Kingdom Hearts but if the recent Lost Odyssey videos are any indication, I could see this being hailed as the true JRPG that broke the mold to include high-quality English voice acting (Kingdom Heart's was a collaboration with Disney).

Let's see if the rest of LO's voice overs hold up to the standard set by the videos that have already found their way onto the internet.

It indeed seems like there will be a marketing push for Lost Odyssey. I really, really, really hope duckroll, Bebpo, and Blim end up liking the game. I am in no way basing my purchase about that, but their opinion's are typically spot-on...so, yeah.

Actually, whether or not duckroll, Bepbo, and Blim end up enjoying the game in addition to the U.S. reviews will determine if I purchase it

Man, that pre-order downloadable content crap sucks.

If it's done and ready, just put it on the disk for everyone. Why in the hell do I have to jump through hoops just to get an extra mission? Lame.

well, so far so good. ducky seems to really like it so far, outside of a few complaints.

Because they...want more pre-orders?

I hope the level of humor in the game is closer to the first Shadow Hearts than Covenant. The funny parts in SH didn't detract from the serious horror elements of the game, they just kept the mood from getting too monotonous. But Covenant just went way over the top with wackiness IMO.

But regardless, this is a definite day one purchase. A challenging JRPG with a well-written story and great art and music? Pretty much the perfect game for me.

Hopefully this is a sign that Lost Odyssey will get a better marketing push from MS than Blue Dragon did.

Microsoft really dropped the ball there. You can't expand your audeince if they don't know you spent millions making a game for them.

To think that MS went through all that trouble to assemble the talent needed to make Blue Dragon and didn't do sqaut for it in NA. It was treated like an afterthought outside of japan.

It's much more like Convenant, maybe even more extreme.

Really, really nice.

EDIT: And then there's this weird electric guitar part. :lol

I'm pretty sure when the guitar kicks in, it's to tell you that you have issues if you've spent over a 90 seconds deciding on which location to select on the world map list. :lol

do you mean more extreme than gran gama/joachim ring tower and floating big head humor?
:O

anyway ducky, what's about character development ? I remember that some SHC characters wasn't really fleshed out (lucia, geppetto and others) :\

do you think LO story is better ?

Uematsu is definitely one of the game's
extremely few
bright points. After Blue Dragon and now this, I'm celebrating that he now has his own music label (first release is a soundtrack from the recent PSP adventure game, Anata wo Urusanai).

Curious about this game since my brother will be bringing the 360 from Malaysia. I know the Japanese version has English and Japanese audio, but what about text? Is it Japanese only?
