Lost Odyssey (Xbox 360) Official Japanese Release Thread

Nah don't like it much at all,
I don't like it neither. Just not a fan of techno sounding beats.

In regards to whether it is left open for sequels in the same universe people will have to find that out for themselves :)
But that is not what they asked? Spoiler tag if for fucks sake.

Damnit, I can't seem to remember where the hell the bunny-in-a-jar in Numara is. Anyone remember where it's located? Pro: Cities in the game are big. Con: Cities in the game are big. :lol

Cool, how many cities have you gone through so far? I've only seen the first one in the beginning, Uhra I think.

And are we talking actual cities, or including towns and villages?

I've been playing Eternal Sonata recently, this game has some of the most boring locations I've ever played, no big cities, just small towns with absolutely nothing to do in them. :/

Well, like the manual states, there are 3 major powers in the world. So there are 3 major cities in the game, each about the size of Uhra. Each and unique and pretty damn impressive. It's rare to see RPGs that pull this off well, but I think LO and FFXII both qualify.

Aside from that
there are like maybe 4 smaller town/village/outpost locations. They're about the size or slightly larger than Trusty Bell's pathetic locations. Even the smaller locations are packed with sidequests and stuff though.

Alright, looks like I'm back in :)
Somehow I forced myself to play from my last save and I actually enjoyed everything then. Strange how I was almost disgusted with the game's difficulty and seemingly out of nowhere it wasn't a problem anymore.
This is a game where gaining one single level makes a BIG difference. Some of the enemies in the level that would take two sword strikes to kill now take one, and fights get much faster and enjoyable.
Anyway, finished disc 1 with a lovely cutscene and started disc 2 with some fun fights. Yep, I'm actually having fun again, until the next difficulty spike I guess?
Superb game.

It's by Cooke & Mack's front door.

She's wearing a belt around her neck! And why does she have on a long sleeve jacket/sweater/cape when she's otherwise dressed so scantily? It's totally random! :lol She has great tits, but she looks a fool!

While I don't disagree with you, I don't have a choice.

I dunno, the getup would make a pornstar blush, and she is supposed to be a regal queen.

If you haven't found it yet its at Cooke/macks house.

Edit:- Meh.. I really need to read through threads.

I don't know about that, I'm telling you some of those tattoos.... aren't tattoos! They were probably lovebites from some other dimensional sex clients from ages past. :lol

Fair point, I'm sure he was the hottest escort in Sigil before the Lady of Pain hired him ;)

I'm at about 16 hours now, well into disc 2. The "dungeon" there is really well done, and quite beautiful too. My characters are level 26 except one I added late to my party and they don't have much problems anymore with the random battles there.
I have to admit I'm abusing the save/back to title menu/load exploit so I don't run out of MP though. Yeah, I suck.

Backyard is a pretty cool optional part of the game.

You find magic keys at various places in the world to unlock more tiers in Backyard, which is an underground fighting cage contest. For each tier there are several fights you can take part in, each is a battle with a certain configuration of enemies. If you win the fight, you a 2 stars clear and a reward. If you fulfil a secret condition in each fight, you'll get 3 stars clear and a bonus reward. The more stars you acculmilate as you complete the fights and the bonus conditions (you don't get more stars for redoing fights :P) you can also get prizes. Some fights have special conditions, like "only two characters" or "no item" or "no attack" and so on. Pretty fun, and the battle theme for Backyard is brand new. :D

If I didn't like a Sakaguchi game before, since FF6 am I going to like one now with LO?

I'm really unsure whether I should get it or not.

Blue dragon is most definetly underrated, everyone in north america- critics and gamers alike expected it to be chrono trigger 2 and instead it's a pretty decent dragon quest clone. What happened was people on the fence went by reviews , most of which called it a mediocre and forgetable rpg that could be skipped over so none of them played it. It also didn't help at all that there was a demo released that wasn't so good at all putting you in a random chunk of story with overpowered characters OR a different random chunk of the game with even more overpowered characters. Half the fun of an RPG is building the characters up yourself and the demo obviously couldn't do much to showcase that.

So yeah if you fence sitters out there on blue dragon never bothered to try it go give it a rental and play for a couple hours from the begining you may find that like me it's a pretty good game.

I'll likely look at lost oddysee the same way and give it a rental, based on this thread it sounds like a pretty good game but it'll likely get hammered by the US press upon it's february release.

Huh? I've played pretty much every DQ and I don't see many similarities at all. :P

Even in terms of Toriyama designs, it's definitely more geared towards CT than DQ. Not that the game is really similar to either game series.

I'm serious dude, after finishing Blue Dragon wth about 75 gamer points, it feels pretty damn good to be NOT done with LO and having over 500 gamer points! :lol

I just got to Jibral and I missed out on the achievement for protecting the wagons.
Goddamn these guys are jerks about points. =(
I'm eleven hours into the game and I still only have two achievements(which you can get in like the first five minutes of the game)

Looking forward to LO since if nothing else I'll at least get an achievement for beating the game.

Yeah the achievements in BD are really, really high on dickery. To get them on a normal playthrough would require restarting and replaying so many of the minigames that you would go from "hey this is fun" to "omg wtf is wrong with the developers?!?!". :/

A friend of mine needs some help on disc 3:

Since I will buy the PAL Version and don't have it yet I don't have all the details, he however doesnt have a GAF Account.

Anyway, he needs some code for Disc 3 for some Train/Wagon

I've been avoiding impressions a tad due to potential spoilers, but what little I've seen seems interesting enough.

I'm in the process of finishing BD (60 hrs, final dungeon), and thoroughly enjoyed it despite the irrelevant storyline. For those who *enjoyed* BD and are playing through LO, what do you think of the latter so far (not necessarily in comparison)?

I got all 1000 BD achievements and it was a pain, the minigames were irritating, but the worst offendor were all the easilly missable stuff like items and enemies that you can never find again if you miss. Enjoyed the game, but the achievement hunt was faq-required groan inducing nonsense.

I really enjoyed Blue Dragon, a lot actually. I feel Lost Odyssey is, without question, the superior of the 2 games. Just all around feels like a much better made j-rpg.

Edit :: Then again.. they are both games with drastically different styles in the first place :).

Finally, Thanks!!

It's hard to tell from this thread whether or not I should be excited for LO. I loved Blue Dragon and I'm hoping that LO will give me the same amount of joy. I'm keep my expectations low though, just in case :)

Buy it regardless of impressions, I will be. Somone has to be kind to the Gooch in his time of need. Keep Mistwalker alive!

I will for sure rent it first! I'm not a big jRPG guy. Phantasy Star I and Blue Dragon are the only 2 jRPG's that I've actually ever finished. If I like it half as much as Blue Dragon then I will. :D

I am excited to play this no matter what the reviews will say. I am willing to give it a shot with the lack of RPGs on all the next-gen systems.

OH! This is exciting because I'm really enjoying Blue Dragon.
