I beat it, but I don't know what else I can say about it that hasn't already been said in this thread. People by now will have heard how awesome the battle system is (depth thanks partly to the great combat rings, variety to the characters, nice difficulty, great looking spell effects, cool enemy designs) people know the game has impressive art direction, people know about the loading which is admittedly annoying at times, but not too much of an issue for me and certainly isn't game breaking.
I really enjoyed the story a great deal. I thought it was pretty well done and I love the characters, especially Kaim. I thought he was an interesting main character. I was always interested in what he had to say or what was on his mind or how he would react in certain situations. I really enjoyed the whole cast of characters to be honest. I really feel that I got a more than substantial enough taste of all their different characteristics which I think is important because I don't think it makes sense to even introduce certain characters and expect to have them stick around for a decent amount of time and not expand on them to any acceptable degree.
Fantastic fucking music some of Uematsu's best work in a long time in my opinion. Great voice acting. First jrpg in a long time where I will willingly choose the English voice acting over the japanese. Awesome looking dungeons. On a whole I really like the game world which the story takes place in. There is quite a lot to be desired for sure.
There were certain story related things I didn't like, but I want to say this without giving something away.. The best way I can put this without spoiling is to say it's as a direct result of something the game did very well, in my opinion, that I find myself unpleased with something else. Then again some of my favorite movies ever usually have an aspect of them that displease me. I wont name any examples because then it would probably be easy to guess what I'm talking about
This is just my personal opinion of the game and others can have a different opinion, but I would without hesitation put this game as the second or third most enjoyable j-rpg I've ever played. I say second or third because I can't decide which I like more between this and Final Fantasy 6. There are things I love about both, but at the same time you can't really condemn one for going a different path especially if you really enjoyed both of them so then it becomes a toss up that has more to do with personal taste and not necessarily quality.
You feel sometimes that you're better off not really saying much about the game because it isn't really as if many will support it anyway. Then I'm sure there are those that are maybe pretending to be interested just so they can drop in and tell us how due to this one sentence they are no longer going to get it. I say if you're still legitimately interested in this game don't allow some preview or review to change your mind about it. It isn't often that we get games like this these days (a damn good one at that) and it would be awesome if we could confidently look forward to others.
Mistwalker has a lot of talent and potential. They could be so much bigger than they are now if only their titles actually sold as well as they deserved to.
