LTTP: Bloodborne

Cainhurst
is such an awesome change of scenery.

Martyr Logarius
is one of the best bosses in the game. I love
how he switches from a magic boss to a melee boss halfway through the fight.

Yea dude, he was a true challenge too. He felt kinda like a Zelda boss in some ways, as I had to solve his "puzzle" (
breaking his sword
) in order to beat him.

I figured out his secret too, after putting on
his crown
... fuck! So cool! Fuck.

Coincidentally, today was a good day: took down
The Unborn One, the Bloody Crow of Cainhurst, and Martyr Logarius
. I almost got the last one in a single try, but got greedy going for the final hit!

I continue to be impressed with the atmosphere: this game keeps building and building, with the
cosmic horror
stuff being truly unsettling.

Beat the game the other night, fucking legendary.

Missed a fee things so I'm going back to NG+ to take care of em. It's fun to traverse the world with knowledge of all the optional paths!

Can't beat the undead giant in the chalice dungeon tho, haha Fuck. Harder than most bosses

Did you play the DLC? Definitely give it a shot if you haven't, it's even better than the base game.

Which ending did you get?

It's been a while since I've been able to update this thread.

I dropped the game, actually. I beat some multiplying Witch boss and realized that too seemed optional, because I got lost.

That was last week and I haven't been back on. I simply don't like that I can get lost and as a man of extremes, if I was going to look for a guide for this part I might well use it for the entire game (which I don't like doing).

This is why I vastly enjoy DeS.

The combat is good, but in some way, all of the boss fights (baring some gimmick), all fight the same. They just have different timings for when you should dodge. I understand that's a strange complaint to have considering I adore Nioh and played like 100 hours in the first three weeks, but that's because Nioh's combat is almost an entirely different egg. (It's also a very different sort of game anyway).

The payoff for the time I put into the game wasn't really there. Perhaps I'm stopping short of some big shift in environment or some huge and awesome fight, but I don't feel compelled to hug the walls to find where I'm supposed to go.

Meanwhile, I played perhaps an hour of DkS2 on Xbone, in its 60fps glory and feel like I probably enjoy Bloodborne a lot more if it had an FPS boost, but I wonder if it would be enough.

I have say, 12hs of this game streamed and I fully appreciate the help and engagement from those who have tuned in. If I haven't been streaming this particular game lately, it was for that reason.

I can't give full impressions, it's just sadly... Not for me in similar ways DkS isn't.

How many bosses have you beaten so far? I ask because it is a pretty strange complaint. The gist of most Souls bosses (and ARPG bosses in general) can be described as learning the right timing to dodge, but Bloodborne's bosses felt anything but repetitive to me, especially the later ones.

It is your first PS4 game and I can assure you it will be the best one you ever play on the console.

Lies! There's so many great games to choose from that it's no longer true and was arguable if it was when it launched as well.

I don't know if I'm describing the boss I just caught properly, but I think I beat them all up until that one as well as the 3 in the chalice dungeons.

What's repetitive is that the main way to beat a boss is to dodge ag the right time and know how many hits of counter you can get. Bosses all have different phases where they may do an extra attack which will almost always get you the first time, which may or may not instant kill.

It's harder than DeS, for sure, but it's a little tiring. When I "get" a boss after 3 to 5 tries, they can't touch me because I got their attack patterns down. I can't do this first try because I don't have that many cures (and the fact that healing in between fights is... Not the easiest thing in the world).

A Ninja Gaiden boss would work the same way, learn which attacks to go through, dodge, when to attack, but the timing in Bloodborne is strictly when to dodge as opposed to positioning.

Then there's the fact that, from what I am told, you can't parry certain enemies or certain attacks and it's not entirely clear why.

Coupled with the poor performance, it feels a little bit jank coupled with some hitbox gore, and while I don't dislike the game, it isn't fun enough to mitigate the frustration of being completely lost or finding put that I sort of wasted time fighting an optional boss.

~~

But tonight I am restless so perhaps, I'll load the game up for a bit. I don't really have anything else to play.

Name one better.

Nioh :D

And possibly Nier.

Definitely Bound too (in VR).

That boss is optional, so there's no telling how far you are at this point. Some people beat the game without even entering that area. It's true that a lot of the early Beast-type bosses (which I assume are the only ones you've beaten so far) can feel samey, but the fights become more creative after you reach the
Forbidden Woods
.

That entire area is optional?!

I really don't like this about DkS games. At least I know not to run around the area for any other openings.

Gunna play something else XD
