Mafia 3 PC performance thread

All that cut scenes are pre recorded video right?

I don't think so. I've seen lighting flashes that shouldn't happen but randomly can happen, Lincoln's coat and dog tags tend to "drop" every time the camera cuts to him as if there are active physics on him, etc.

Not to mention cars running over NPCs during cutscenes xD

They're videos, at lease the vast majority of the cutscenes should be videos.

Exactly. Thanks to this Reshade and downsampling I finally have it looking quite decent even with the AA on.

The saturation looks better than the base game but I'm not sure if it's TOO much. Either way I think it looks pretty great:

Despite the sharpening artefacts of course.

Can you share your reshade settings? Thanks

Does anyone know why developers still do that these days? Why not real time rendering, and IF pre-rendered why not with high quality blu-ray quality? I hate when the IQ in cutscenes is much lower than in-game due to compression artefacts.

PLEASE report back. I had 3 subscribers report something very similar yesterday but without reboots and each of them separate seemed like isolated cases

Okay, i just tried plugging my TV again and it is still running smooth. The PC reset must have done something. I usually put my PC to sleep instead of turning it off, and maybe when I installed the latest drivers I should have rebooted (although the installer did not ask me to).

30FPS in this game actually feels nice. It's even playable with a mouse, although with the amount of driving in this game I still prefer the controller.

It's this: https://sfx.thelazy.net/games/preset/6205/ but I turned sharp_strength down to 2.0 and Vibrance down to 0.20. Not a similar picture by any means but here's a current picture that I thought looked amazing.

Nice. Was wondering if I should start the game yet or wait for the patch first, but if it's tonight then I'm waiting.

There are still a lot of bugs and other issues with the game. Getting the performance up to PC standards is a great start, though.

You are misunderstanding what I am saying, I am saying it's not the developers fault, they are constrained by what the publishers want, which is playing it safe, if the developers had more creative freedom we would see more passion and love in these games.

I am not saying developers do not care (well some don't clearly) but I am simply saying that without the constraints their talents would shine through more, they may be passionate about the work they do even if it is constrained and I appreciate that but I am saying when developers had more creative freedom games were better (IMO.)

I worded it wrong but I think you know what I mean.

I see. It wasn't clear from your quote, but given the additional context you provided I can see where you are coming from.

Sadly, we live in an era where video games are so expensive that those paying for development (i.e. publishers) are always going to have final say over a product as risky as a multi-million dollar game. We've all read enough stories about studios laying off all their staff or shutting down completely to know how volatile the market can be.

The only games that are going to come out without excessive publisher meddling are going to be proven studios and franchises that have the financial leeway to experiment, or crowd funded or self-published indie titles (and we know how well one of those funding methods works).

I would hardly describe myself as conservative, but I think the free hand of the market will truly win out in the end. We're already seeing consumer push back on seedier publisher trends (remember the fracas around the Deus Ex: Mankind Divided pre-order bonuses?), and Steam and EA's refund policies provide consumer's with an extra layer of protection. Publishers, like any business, will keep tweaking models to find more profit - that's never going to change. Hopefully the formula they find is one that promotes a healthy, competitive market of quality goods.

Tried monitoring everthing. It's definitely a CPU bottleneck.

Went to a stressfull area (which brings fps down to 23) and GPU usage is around 70% while CPU usage is 98% and around 6gb ram is being used.

I can't overclock my i5 4460 with my mobo, so I guess I can only wait and see if they optmize with patches. :(

I'm rocking an i5 4590 (only slightly better than yours) and it's run decently.

EDIT- Guess we'll know in 40 mins.

Well the Phenom cpu was way below their minimum requirements so technically they don't have to fix it, people were warned.

The NMS and Deus Ex devs fixed it, I can max those games out with my 1100t @ 4.1Ghz and it doesn't bottleneck my 970, it's an old CPU but it sure isn't below the minimum requirements.

The minimum cpu required was the AMD FX-8120 which is newer than the Phenom if I'm not mistaken. I wouldn't buy the game if the devs told me that they needed a newer cpu to run the game at minimum settings. I know it's bullshit but the requirements were there for people to see.

My 1100t outperforms the 8120, I know it logically makes sense but I would expect it to launch even, it's happened in other games where the minimum req's are the same and the dev's just patched it in. It's not like I'm trying to run it on a Voodoo 2.

If I request a refund on steam can I buy it later again cheap?

Game looks and runs like garbage, even though the core gameplay itself might be quite fun. Want to refund and just buy in a steam sale at this point. Hugely disappointed in this game.

"PC players, reboot Mafia III because patch 1.01 is now available for download. This patch includes 30, 60, and unlimited frames-per-second options on PC. To select your framerate, just head to the display menu in-game. Just make sure to tailor the framerate settings to the power of your machine. This patch also includes improvements to keyboard remapping, so head to the controls menu to check out the options. Note: this patch resets keyboard mapping to default, so any changes you made to the controls previously will need to be customized after installing the patch.

We aren’t done with fixes and updates and will continue to listen to our community for ways to improve your experience in New Bordeaux. And check here [mafiagame.com] to see what content updates we have in the works, including outfit swapping, races, and more."
