Major bullshit moments in videogames

I've had a few moments in Fire Emblem where you're near the end of a chapter with a >90% chance of hitting a killing blow on an enemy, but you miss and the enemy with low hit and crit chances does indeed not only hit you, but crit you, and your character's dead.

Obviously, it's not really BS in that it's unfair, but it's such a miniscule chance of such a thing happening, so it naturally pisses you off when it happens.

This happened to me in Fates. Playing on Lunatic, so the stage in question was very long. Near the end about an hour in, and a weak throwaway enemy unit that didn't even have a "killing" weapon crit my Sniper and killed him.

It was so soul crushing, I haven't touched the game again in the last two weeks.

So much this. Currently playing through it.. Holy shit it should be called Scholar of the Gank Squad. Getting aggroed in the Valley of Giants and stun locked in a corner was complete bullshit. Currently in Lost Bastile/Sinners Rise, and I love how they keep those squads coming. And to top it off, you have shit equipment until after killing the pursuer.

Forgot to mention how much I appreciated the boss room flooding in the wharf. I can barely roll and he's walking on water ffs. The boss easy was manageable until then, and I honestly feel lucky to have rolled at the right moment to kill him. I almost want to say fuck this version and buy the original, but I refuse to be defeated by a game, so I will soldier on.

This is the kind of shit that happens when the creative genius is absent. You get the b-team with crap ideas that don't understand balance, cohesion, or what makes the other games great. I haven't had fun with any of the bosses so far, unlike DeS, DS1, BB, and DS3. Those games start out strong and mostly keep up the quality all the way through. The worst part is that I know it doesn't get better and there's only a few good bosses towards the end. Starting to lose motivation to continue, which makes me sad. So glad Miyazaki gave us Bloodborne and DS3.

Wait till you get to the
Iron Keep and the Gank Squad Alonne
knights. That area almost made me just quit all together cause I had to resort to cheap hit and run tactics. I've decided just to overlevel the fuck out of my character and just crush everything..

This was obnoxious but nowhere near the worst of that game (just started the DLC, fuuuuck)

In the originally released version prior to any patching it was way worse. The homing on the magic attacks was ridiculous to the point where it was almost impossible to get through without getting hit a bunch.

The other two worst moments in the Souls series I think would be the dual archers in Anor Londo in Dark 1, and the large skeletons on the cliffside while you get pelted by those floating spear flinging things in Demon's Souls.

EDIT: Oh and the freaking plague rats in Demon's 5-1.

That moment in each Uncharted game where you are getting towards the end of the story and you get to a part where the game throws a huge almost unfair wave of enemies at you just because it can.

In UC4
when you have to save Sam around the pirate ship graveyard I was about ready to snap. I had an unlucky checkpoint where I had very little ammo and being shot from every single direction made it all such a chore to win. Honestly the game didn't have the more numerous difficulty spikes of UC3 but that one part just sucked to me.

I did feel like the arbitrary "halve your health" mechanic of the defiled chalice dungeon in Bloodborne felt out of place. Could have easily balanced it with more complex enemy mobs, etc.

Then again, it made getting through the difficult rooms and bosses that much more satisfying, but still.

One time in the last 5 turns I landed on a wiggler space twice in a row in Mario Party 5. That was hilarious for me, insane for my brother. Good times.

NHL 16's shitty passing and insane terrible puck physics cost me several games. Just uninstalled that shit yesterday sigh.

For me it's the final battle in xenoblade chronicles x

After all of my work putting points into fighting with my skells the game
forces you to fight a cheap boss in a skell that wrecks shit, and if you're good enough to have at least some of your skells survive then the game forces you out for the next stage where he makes your robot run out of fuel and you have to fight him and a bunch of cheap minions on foot. Oh and there isn't a single save point in between all the stages for the boss so if you die prepare to do the whole thing again

Absolutely disgusting. And now I'm likely to get people "well it didn't bother me git gud" and no. The thread was filled with people hating the boss design when the game was out. Fuck you game.

To be fair, the boss is very trivial with a skell.
Luckily for me, I had heard that it set all of your fuel to 0 in the last phase, which can be circumvented if you prepare for it. I hit him with a stagger as he was using that attack, and then bound him to get fuel back before going into Overdrive. However, I would probably have been really upset if I hadn't known about the fuel depletion thing.
Also, I was probably overlevelled a bit and had the level 60 skell you can craft from one of the Boze's affinity mission.

That's what I plan on doing. I have no time or patience for their bullshit. Need a good sweeping weapon to stagger them all. I have the grand lance right now and it's doing wonders if I can enemies in a straight line, which is surprising easy to do at the lost bastille. Playing SoTFS makes me want to go back to DS3 where I can just sunbro bosses for fun and level up my godly character. Gonna hit at least 30 for each stat soon. :D

I think I am close to that.
Going through the pirate mansions you get to the top pirate's mansion and they literally lock you in a small confined area and no matter where you take cover you get hit. I have been stuck at that fucking fight for a week.

I was 80 hours in and i quit. Still bitter as hell.

The place you go to after beating
Rom
in Bloodborne seems to be Bullshit Town.

The enemies respawn, standard enemies becomes stronger and the place is full of Cthulluh-ass creatures all around.

Just finished Chapter 15b in Valkyria Chronicles after giving up on it 9 years ago. Such a bullshit level, you basically have a minigun trained on you the entire battle with perfect accuracy and unlimited range.
Ghirlandaio part 2?

The easiest level in all VC?

Directly from the start point, use smoke to hide, take a sniper, finish the mission in a single shot

Yes, I love to put salt in the wounds ^_^

I quit the game there. Such bullshit design.

How about having to finish that fucking tutorial level to even play the story mode? Willing to bet that half the people who played it never got past that.
When that game came out, I had a friend who thought that the parking garage was the entirety of the game.

Killing a boss in a Souls game at the exact same moment you are killed, so the "YOU DIED" message appears before the "YOU DEFEATED" one, thus, your victory doesn't count.

I just did that in DS 3. I got the Boss reward and re-appeared at the last bonfire. Ran back to the boss to pickup my souls.

At least it gave you the option to drop the difficulty when you died several times.

boss designs in general in the game had this RIDICULOUS jump in difficulty, where if you weren't several levels above or already a master of the systems to abuse with the combos/overdrive, you had to die over and over again until it lowered the difficulty.

LA Noire spoilers:

Getting to the end of the Homicide cases to find out all the detective work you did was utterly pointless, all in service of some shitty plot twist which the game promptly forgets about.

Yeah I was about to mention something like this, except with the added time I've wasted by grinding several characters at that map's arena building for like 45 minutes. Bullshit, but like hell I'm resetting now.

I know it's a low hanging fruit, but lack of checkpoints in Jak II are known for driving people up the wall... and even away from the game.

Interestingly, this never happened to me. I went in with fuel consumables to get my skells back and never even needed them.

the X + triangle button smashing festival at the end of KH2. I finally had to rotate my controller in my hand to get it right.

What? You don't even have to mash for this.
You can just alternate tapping them at a moderately brisk rhythm.

Seriously, the only way you can fail this is if you fundamentally don't understand what you're supposed to be doing, like how some people don't realize they have to be hitting X *and* Triangle.

The segment just before this where you have to rescue Sora while playing as Riku for 30 seconds - now THAT has the potential to be some truly frustrating bullshit, as the hitboxes and tells on the Xemnas clones are extremely misleading and you're on a short time limit with no ability to heal.
