One thing this thread has taught me.....Mascara makes a huge difference in making your eyes look bigger.
I'm going to mention Michelle Phan again. God knows how I stumbled upon her channel, but I ended up watching about an hour of her make up tutorials. Just this stunning girl with a sweet voice, making herself look pretty while displaying fantastic artistic technique was quite mesmerising. She does eyes very well:

A truly beautiful girl. I think she's made a real name for herself off the back of it. Fair play, I hope she does well.

He doesn't wear makeup. He has stated several times that is just how he looks.

That's the joke: I referred to the whole question of 'is it real?1!?!' that went around back then.

Also, that 'effect' (wheter you have it naturally or can make it by applying make-up) is what I like, hence this pic.

is beloved, despite what anyone might say
I've dated everything from women who wouldn't wear makeup at all, to women who worked as makeup artists. If I have to say, I've always been more of a fan of the "natural" look... non-to-little makeup. Of course where I live the girls love to douse themselves in makeup and over tan themselves, and it just looks hideous :p

That is a terrible comparison

Women who want to make themselves look better dress up and make up.
Men who want to make themselves look better dress up and body-build.
Men with a build body are deemed to be more confident.

Moderation remains key, obviously.

Girls doing their makeup and guys going to the gym are similar because they are both ritualistic. It is not suggestive of their confidence, in my opinion.

What if guys put as much effort into looking attractive

I do. I keep my beard trimmed and edged which always takes like 15-20 minutes of my day so I wake up earlier. I cut my hair every 15 days, cut my nails when they get too long, I use q-tips in my ears and I cut my excess nose hair.

When I don't look like a bum I boost my confidence and I don't think I'm hiding behind my beard.

I'm an expert

Formerly worldrevolution. The only reason I am nice to anyone else is to avoid being banned.
I got mixed up and thought this and the pornstar thread were the same. Gotta have a girl who dresses up and puts on her face right. I definitely prefer a girl with makeup to one without, but the trick is to get one that checks the cute box without, and checks the hot box with, with a nice in between as well. My wife luckily does all those things (hence why I married her). Definitely not a fan of transforming from beast to beauty though, as the pornstar thread points out.

Man, reading this I came to the sad realization that what you typed might not be the norm for everyone, cause that is some serious common sense upkeep that I would expect every normal male to do. Cutting your nails when they get long...of course lol..

Body building projects many things. Work ethic and health to name a few.

Make up projects an immediate concern with appearance and not much else. I suppose in certain situations it projects adherence to social custom.

Wouldn't that be considered as maintaining acceptable hygiene? (sans getting haircut every 15 days)

Not necessarily. I would either let my beard grow or just shave it every day and as long as I wash my face neither those of would be dirtier than the rest. It's mostly about appearance, It look less like a kid, it hides my double chin. I only style it because I want to look good and it takes as much time as applying make up possibly.

I'm just saying that we are not that different, both Men and Women have our rituals to look better to the opposite sex.

I couldn't believe my eyes when 2 of my HS friends told me they didn't brush their teeth everyday (I brush twice a day).

I swear man, some people are just so lazy.

Damn it! Stop using q-tips in your ear! It's bad for you!

I try to speard the word.

Ew, I have to brush my teeth after I sleep and before I get to sleep and that's just the bare minimum.

What should I just then? Hot water? No thanks.

I go to gym mostly for training for strength.
But im now trying to loose 25kg of weight. already lost 4kg that by only walking 5 nights a week for like 30 min train 4 days a week for 45~60 min. I'm now busy cleaning up diet, shit is hard im a sweet tooth.

Also make sure i brush my teeth, shower, put up some cologne or something just so i don't stink. Like to keep my hair short so it doesn't take long cause Im a lazy bastard so i don't see use to spend anymore time doing make up as a male.

You must have some deformed face if losing weight and going to gym isn't helping i can't almost believe it that it is possible. But a good body can also be a good asset to boost your confidence is mostly the reason i'm also trying to loose the fat. I want to see what the result 2 years of strength training is hiding behind that layer of fat. Beefed up almost 40kg hope atleast 20+kg are muscles.

I have seen some ugly(if you compare to magazines) males(comparable to me) score some really fine girls/woman(also compare to magazines) and im just dumb struck when that happens.
So there is more then looks alone is what i concluded.

Are men who body-build insecure?

Quite often, yeah :p

I wish I could wear some light make-up to cover up the red spots I get from my acne. The zits themselves often only last a day, but the redness stays foreeever. I hate it and suffer for it.

It doesn't phase me the slighest when other people have it, so maybe girls do the same and marvel at my strong cheekbones and manly jaw instead of being shallow and making fun of my acne, but still, can't shake that feeling, ya know.

Nothing is stopping you from wearing makeup y'know.

Haven't read the whole thread yet, but I came across this link the other day. Shows porn stars before/after makeup. Perhaps NSFW, but no nudity. http://izismile.com/2013/03/08/porn_stars_before_and_after_their_makeup_makeover_93_pics.html

Also, my takeaway from this thread is that a lot of girls have bad skin. Maybe it's from putting makeup on every day, maybe it's due to diet or something else... but makeup shouldn't be a bandaid for bad skin. I only get blemishes/breakouts when I'm eating poorly or have to shave. Better to solve the problem than cover it up.

Making oneself look better is completely different than covering up bad skin. For that "natural makeup" is fine, I suppose.

If your profile picture is you I wouldn't be concerned. That said if you're on a bodybuilding diet something you're eating or the diet overall could be to blame. In the meantime you could try concealer or another solution. But I think people should attempt to find the root of the problem.

There difference is that the rituals women have are more expensive/more expected/bad for their skin/and more time consuming.
Everyone cuts their hair regularly, trims their nails, showers, moisterizes, and in general keep up their hygiene.

Women just have an extra 5-30 minute expensive ritual that isn't the ideal thing for their skin and supports a potentially unethical industry.

Those men are indeed insecure from my experience. Quite a bit of my classmates at high-school were that way, body-building to cover up their insecurities and get laid. Eventually that messed up with their growth; I was usually the tallest among them, but also the slimmest: 6.1352 ft for 170lb.

Not a fan. I think it's a dumb concept to begin with, and a reflection of a very vain society. "Here, let me apply fake features to make others perceive me differently (as a means to achieve success or appear sexy)." It's an attempt to fit a ridiculous societal construct that venerates emptiness and disparages truth, and subsequently, our humanity.

Or you know some people just have fun doing it.

I think that make-up can look good on women or men.

I think that plenty of women look great without make-up.

I see a lot of people try to rebuke that with "see the amazing effects of make-up pictures" and imply the women looked horrid without make-up.

A lot of these women, in this popular pictures, I think do look great without makeup.

I wish it were more socially acceptable for guys to wear make-up.

lol you guys have no clue...

if you wanna see some shit, asian girls are seriously OP with makeup.

just google "asian girls makeup" to see moar.

Yeah, that's exactly what I was talking about.

I think she looks better without the make-up on.

Everyone is always saying things like "no, no, you guys who think girls look better without make-up on, you don't know. This is the actual difference between girls who wear make-up and those who don't. Girls need make up it looks much better."

But this is exactly what I'm talking about when I say women look better without make-up on. I don't see how the "after make-up" second picture is an improvement at all. She looks gorgeous without the make-up on. Heck, her face looks like it has actual human skin on it instead of some weird shiny thing.

By the way, "Asian girls"? Nice way to stereotype.

Are you telling me you never judge anyone, wasn't aware we had a real life saint.
Oh hey, it's you again. Different thread same shit.

What I'm saying is that it's shitty to judge people based on what kind of make up they do or don't wear. There's a huge array of reasons to wear make up (or not), so you can't make sweeping assumptions or judgements. And, anyways, it's none of your business.

Seriously. It's not okay to shame people for wearing make up, and it's not okay to shame people for not wearing make up. Just like it's not okay to shame people for shaving their legs (or not), or for having a visible birthmark (or not), etc.

Edit : And again, it's cool if you have personal tastes / preferences. Just don't judge or shame people about their choices.
