Hunter x Hunter vol 1

Damn. Hisoka does not fuck around.

I love how the manga just started directly with the exam. I watched the anime long time ago as a kid and my memory is pretty shitty of what happened, but I didn't think they would start the tests that soon.

Pretty good stuff so far. Reminds me a bit of Naruto exams, except the ones in HxH have been cooler so far.

Breath of Fire IV vol. 2

This volume was good too. The story keeps moving forward pretty fast, without rushing it though which is perfect. I never got to play BoF 4 (I'll have to make up when it's on PSN) so the little revelation at the end of the volume about Ershin was intriguing.

In this case...give it a shot. It's not SO AWFUL that you'll want to rip your eyes out and it's unbearable. If it's just like "I'm interested in catching up" then that's cool. All I'll say is don't get your hopes up to see a lot of the characters that were developed in part 1 ._.

This right here. :/

Decided to read this on a whim and... wow, what a pleasant surprise. Main character is practically the Okay guy meme in manga form, and his love interest just takes advantage of it and usually beats him into submission. Their personalities just make for some hilarious situations. A really good slice-of-life story that's well-paced and the art reminds me of GTO, albeit less "crude." Definitely following this series.
I'm so glad somebody else is reading this, it's so good.

bleach

lol kubo submitted a blank page, what waste of paper.

Ginjo transformation makes me think of this

nartuo

blah blah blah nothing happen apart from some nonsense talk we heard over two dozen times already, I would gladly take blank pages over this.

Rock 'n' Roll Ricky ch20

why do we do this," because we are men" damn right, now another round of rikitarou geting his ass beat.

I'm glad Hilda knows her place. It was about time that she stepped aside for Queen Aoi. Too bad Oga won't realize this and will probably try to rescue her. *sigh*

Made me chuckle.

Tokyo Girls Destruction 1-3

Nice art. Don't really like "the nice, naive girl" and the "mean girl with a secret heart of gold" archetypes they're throwing out. It's still very early, so let's see where this goes.

Hunter x Hunter 313

A modest progression. I'm amazed at how well Togashi handles tension and suspense (probably what I like most)
He must be well experienced in keeping the readers waiting
really!

This isn't even a war, it's an onslaught.

Team Aoi:

Pros said:
1) The older sister of Baby Kota aka Baby Beel comedy gold.
2) She has her own pet Kon from Bleach Koma.
3) Doesn't fight in a damn maid outfit.
4) Her grandfather is a bad ass.
5) Lives in a freaking Dojo.
6) Former Leader of the Red Tail and the Tohoshinki.
7) Actually has friends.

Furuichi's future wife

Pros said:
1) Bigger bust size.
2) Looks like she can cook and clean.

Game over.

Beelzebub 88-103

I dropped the series a while back because I was reading too many manga. Time passed and I just plain forgot about it. About 40 chapters have passed since I last read, so I decided that it was a good time to catch especially with all the praise it's been getting.

Man am I glad I picked it up again. If there's one thing I love about this series it's the wacky sense of humor. For a few chapters, a bunch of the characters were playing a Gears of War ripoff just to get information on Beel's brother whereabouts. It was fucking awesome and hilarious. The zombie cheat they used to get back at the demon chicks was funny as hell.

If there's one thing I don't like, it's Kuneida. She's just a stupid love interest right now. The author should give her something funner to do.

Hunter x Hunter

So for the first 5 pages I think "One word... he's gonna say Komugi. he's gonna say Komugi he's gonna say Komugi" and then he goes and says Komugi.

Goddamn.

And then he announced Jairo his dang gosh King. Human memories completely breaking Ant hierarchies. Jairo is way, way bigger than what I originally thought.
I mean King? For real? I hope he meant that and didn't just freak out from the situation.

And then the King doesn't kill the fuck out of him.

Crazy stuff.

The King also said he'll set free Knuckle and Meleoron which is just as nuts. He's like a different dude completely with Komugi.

Pufu now mental, complete with blood. He's pretty much done I guess?

I really don't see the King getting out of this, though, even if he's chilling out, as a wandering or just-there dude like some are saying here. Reason being, he was already in this situation in front of Netero. Even if the King chills out and offers talking, he's still the King. True that he said some new stuff about wanting to be human but I don't think that's enough of a game-changer. The right response would still be to smash him like Netero attempted.

Only other person even willing to talk things out is Knuckle (Gon is completely out of that concept and Killua will probably ignore anything that doesn't immediately relate to Gon).

So yeah anyway that was great. I love this.

Hunter x Hunter vol 2-4

Well I certainly didn't expect that. I don't remember the tournament that well from the anime time, so this all was surprising. I still don't like the fact that barely any fights were shown. Hisoka didn't do shit and Gon got his ass handed to him.

I wanted to see Kurapika fight and maybe see just how weak Leorio is. Oh well. Maybe next arc will have more fights.

My guess: The king will die of poison, but he will choose to spend his last moments playing a game with Komugi.

This is looking likely imo.

Should be interesting to see if he will finally win and/or not die

Interesting, it looks like Yoruichi and Shinji are back as captains (Probably replacing Aizen and Tousen) and Hanatarou made it to being a Vice captain.

There's really no reason to believe any of that. They're Ichigo's friends.

Murahagane

"You're in checkmate, chief. It's my win."

"Ah?! My chronic spasms are acting up!" *slaps out the entire board*

Surprisingly funny. And the art was crazy during the fight.
I could read this.

I don't think Gon is out of that concept, IMO he just wanted to kill Nef for Kaito's sake. I think emotionally he won't really care about the king.

I agree the king is too powerful to stick around as he is, I could see the king blinding/crippling himself or something but he regenerates so that wouldn't work, so I think there's a pretty good chance the poison will get him.

And if the manga isn't cut short I think the next arc will involve Jairo.

Hunter x Hunter vol 5-7

- That is one of the weirdest internet technology I have ever seen.
- So the exam isn't over. That is interesting. It's weird how Leorio is the only one that hasn't bothered with training so far.
- This rescue Killua arc was a bit tame and fast. I guess I expected to see a big fight, but it seemed like everyone was much stronger than Gon and the gang
- This Nen stuff is pretty fascinating. I still don't fully understand all the variations so I will need to read up on it, but I find the its uses to be creative so far.
- Killua is #1 in the ranking as expected. I just was surprised that Kurapika beat Gon.
- The Celestial Tower arc was very entertaining. Lots of variety of fights and Gon and Killua grew up a lot. Though Killua really is broken. I wonder when will he get serious in a fight and get his ass kicked.

Very good stuff so far. I still find Gon's fighting style to be incredibly boring, but the other characters make up for it. Now the manga needs to hurry up and show more Kurapika.

I said this before but just to make sure, yeah, try and read a bit about it (or ask here, because many Nen explanations on the web contain spoilers) to make it settle in your head. From the end of the Tower arc forward, the manga will assume that you understand Nen perfectly.

I thought he'd show up sooner or later, but after Welfin name-dropped him as his KING, I think he may show up surprisingly soon. Like, within the next couple of chapters, or anywhere during this arc.

Transitions between arcs in HxH are rarely clear-cut or well defined, so Jairo may as well be a part of that.

Being fair Leorio mentioned that he wanted to become a Hunter for the money/benefits that will lead him to be a Doctor so its not that crazy for him to place nen training on hold imo.

Well Togashi did dedicate some chapters just for him so i don't think it was much of a stretch.

But Welfin's constant name dropping of him recently is really encouraging.

While we're on the subject, I've been thinking about this for forever. I think Leorio's Nen will directly relate to being a doctor. Nothing as broken as Pitou's ability, but still something that will aid him in what he wants to do.

He may even become some kind of specialized Nen doctor that can aid in specialized Nen injuries and such.

In any case, Nen could help his healing ability far more than any hunter license could.

Did we ever find out which type he is? (If I had to guess, Emission?)

The thing about this is I don't see why Togashi saw it necessary to leave out those two in the Chimera Ant arc. It's not like there wasn't plenty of space for them as far as tactics and battles go, and we got our "Killua & Gon bonding" arc in GI.

Jairo is definitely showing up soon. When I read the chapter that was all about him I was like "Well, this shit is gonna be importanty"

But then again, what about the small baby that is currently being nurtured by that one ant...the one that also came out of the queen with the king.

Although he's growing fast, from when they discovered him to when we saw him last (which is the largest time portion in his life so far), he only grew enough to be about.. the equivalent of a 2 years old. I doubt he'll be good to go in time for this arc. He can't be that old right now, maybe the equivalent of a 3-4 years old, at the rate he was going.

We saw him last in... 258, I think?

Plus I don't think Koruto will agree to him getting in the fight so soon.

Edit: awww yeah, bull's eye. Both on Leorio being Emission and on chapter 258. I love my memory.

the king is going to die playing that game with komugi. its going to happen and he will have a weak death. the most powerful guy having such a tame death would fit with how things go in hxh.

I would say its because Leorio still isn't fully trained yet and Kurapika still has the boss to protect (plus iirc his most powerful attack is basically useless since he's not fighting a certain enemy).

And while we got the "Killua & Gon bonding" from GI i also think this arc was more of showing "Killua and Gon growing".

Yea its best to do that but you can still post your thoughts as your going through since most responses will relate to that topic.

It's been on my wish list for a while now. I guess I'll get to it sometime soon.

It's like a gorier Kenshin. In fact, it's probably the goriest series running in Shounen Magazine right now (maybe with the exception of Cage of Eden). No character has qualms about brutally killing their enemies.

S.I.D.

Don't have much experience with Korean webcomics, but this is pretty neat. Kind of standard battles with powers so far and the overarching plot is still up in the air, but the fact it's full-color is nice. Also nice to have more detective based battle series.

Fairy Tail

God, that punch looks so fucking stupid. Why does Mashima like these shitty comical-looking cheek punches? It feels like Hades is being blown away by the wind following their punch. It's completely fucking weightless.

What angers me the most about this is that I know Mashima can draw some really painful attacks. He just recently started this bullshit.

And it doesn't help that Hades doesn't appear to get injured from the attacks. Barely even any scratch-marks (even though Fairy Tail was never one for good-looking injuries, it's usually a scratch cop-out).

FT's mediocrity almost never gets to me but this just really pisses me off. It may as well have ruined the entire arc, and lord knows this arc didn't need anything to ruin it.

I just went through it again. I'm not one to usually reread manga, but damn, SE is still so fresh. It's a gem amidst a sea of rectangular eyes and senseless battles won by the spirit of friendship alone (I'm lookin' at you, Fairy Tail).

Just read this. From your description I was afraid that the girlfriend was going to be more evil, cheating, stringing him along, etc, which would have turned me away from the manga. I'm happy that it isn't like that, at least so far. Aside from the occasional punch/kick, which the guy usually deserves somewhat, she comes over as nice and honest.
