I am Korean.
Now that I've had a chance to sick back and think about it, the world of OP is ridiculously overpowered. Not DBZ levels, obviously. But Jesus Christ, it's almost as if Oda has no boundaries. Kizaru can move at the speed of light. SPEED OF LIGHT for fucks sake. Why didn't his editors tell him that was a horrible ass idea? Theoretically, Kizaru should stomp every character in the series with complete ease.
Nah. That steel guy, and anyone who ate a mirror mirror fruit would mess him up. Heck, even that diamond guy could shatter him with prism power.

A top tier character with Foxy's DF would own pretty much everyone.

IIRC, he can't act faster than his brain can comprehend. Even if he were moving at the speed of light, it wouldn't make a difference in a lot of scenarios.

Tteiuka, Koi Jane? vol 1

For a first volume this wasn't too bad. Feels a bit a mix of Maid-sama, with a strong female protagonist that hates/distrusts men and wants to protect girls from the evil boys, though in here the protagonist also has a sort of crush (not exactly a love crush, more like a debt of gratitude type of crush) on a girl from her past that she hopes to meet again.
The first volume shows how her class has to put up with the change in their school from girls only to mixed and how the 3 guys that Ichino (the protagonist) met before (and that she punched) when she was with her 2 friends are now in her class and how Ichino has to get over this.
I liked that by the end of the first volume, Ichino has opened up a bit, recognizing the good points of the guys in her class, though she still don't trust men.

So I rarely visit 4chan but I was looking for the source of that image survivor posted and stumbled upon the Negima thread. For this I can only praise Godamatsu with these choice responses

So should we just pretend that the last two chapters never came out?

It's Asuna for me and that's all that matters. Fuck all those last few chapters. Denial full speed ahead!

Negi obviously was in love with Eva. She shot him down. Now the relationship is reset for the inevitable sequel. I'm still rooting for Nodoka and masturbating to Yue.

It's really not that hard. OP's arcs can get just as long and super boring as the ones in other shonen and it has just as many annoying and stupid characters.

No son, you're just wrong about this.

But in all seriousness, One Piece characters being more overpowered than those in Bleach or Naruto is a strange thing to say. Yeah, OP chars are powerful as hell but even Whitebeard, the strongest man on earth, was taken down. Kizaru was stopped by Rayleigh etc. It's all about the world the mangaka has built and how believable it is in that context. And IMO, out of the Big 3, One Piece has managed it the best. Bleach has huge discrepancies between power-levels, mostly because Kubo thought it was a great idea to make Ichigo fight Kenpachi and Byakuya in the second arc...

One Piece fanboys kinda remind me of Apple fanboys.

Think about it.

You hit the nail on the head. I wanted to say that for so long, but i did not bother.

Lol. WB was killed because of his age. And no. Luffy defeating a Croc so early on was really bad. Yamamoto from Bleach was stopped by a cleaver plan. Tousen´s death was because of him been able to see which was brilliant. Grimmjow and Ichigo fought on almost equal level. op characters are not more overpowered than Bleach characters. The power discrepancy between Coby and Kizaru is as much as Hanataro and Yamamoto.

I eagerly await the day Beam makes an actual argument about One Piece instead of just mudslinging.

And I think Magi is supposed to be "superior black muscles". The dark continent is an obvious expy for sub-Saharan Africa. Although they do look like I'd expect manga Egyptians to look...

I didn't mean the difference between the strongest and the weakest, but the fact that Kubo makes characters stronger for shits and giggles. Ichigo beat Byakuya and Kenpachi but when he hits Arrancar land he's weaker than them without any of the explanations you like so much.

And what the hell is a "Croc"...

Guys, instead of slinging mud like the trolls you are, you're free to at least attempt to make an argument.
I'm not wasting my time. But hey, one piece is a very solid manga. I don't care if people enjoy it, even if there often is unwarranted hype surrounding it.

!?

He got beat twice because Luffy had nothing on a Lugia, then he finally found a method to touch him and won.

Talking about power levels in One Piece of all manga's is a very slippery slippery slope.

The method found was a plot device. Croc was able to cause sand storms, yet he could not even drown Luffy in sand or just make enough sand to dry Luffy´s sweat. Never mind, i so don´t want to spend hours arguing about this.

Defend Ichigo vs. Ulquiorra. Including the fucking hole through Ichigo's chest.

he did drown luffy in sand but robin saved him. if it wasn't for her he would of died. the thing i love about one piece is that there isn't anybody that is b.s like aizen or madara. even akainu looked vulnerable when whitebeard smashed his ass and if whitebeard was younger who knows what could of happened.

What is there to explain or defend? The dude was either about to or just on the verge of death. Then, hollow ichigo came out and saved him, just like he did in the Byakuya battle.

This would be a problem if up to this point we never saw the hollow. We knew it was there, though.

He did drown Luffy in sand, who was saved by Robin... and you watched the 4kids dub didn't you? :lol

Way to spoil my bait.

Honestly, what I like most about OP when it comes to the power scale thing is that it's one of the few manga where I feel like I have a grasp of the world's "peak".

Are some of the powers in OP utter and total bullshit? Yeah of course. But I don't want to hear a Bleach fan say that like it's somehow exclusive to OP.

Pretty much every shonen has zero regard for the laws of physics or nature, pretending like One Piece is the only one that isn't exactly consistent here is flat out hypocritical.

What I personally find appealing about OP is the fact that we know about characters like Kizaru and Akainu long before they're even meant to be defeatable.

Is there a huge difference between Coby and Kizaru? Yeah, of course. But that difference is only obvious because OP's world is fairly open.

Compare this to say, DBZ, where every major villain defeated was immediately followed up by a previously unknown much-more-powerful adversary that came out of the blue.

The moment that a universe-conquering character like Frieze could be one-hit-KOed, someone like the androids shows up. When the androids are defeated, oh my gosh, Cell!

Does it make sense for such insane powers to kinda just pop up without the world being, y'know, aware that someone like Frieza is just a small fry? Of course not.

Invariably a lot of shonen do stick to this general concept of powerleveling though. Does anyone have a doubt that for some weird ass reasons these new Bleach villains are suddenly much more powerful than even Aizen and his dudes were? Of course, otherwise there'd be no tension. You saw how annoyed people got at the Fullbringer guys being kinda ... well, weak.

With One Piece I feel like certain characters genuinly are the best of the best introduced early. Seeing the admirals is like having Buu from DBZ known/around during the Freeza saga. It comes across like the villains don't just gradually pop up when the protagonists are "ready", but strong, weak and everything inbetween is part of a fluid world.

As for Croc getting defeated early on; To me he's always felt like a Caribou-style logia more so than an Akainu-style logia. One that relies very heavily on his power and is genuinly not much of a fighter himself.

His combat moves are almost entirely based around his logia fruit and his "one final resort" to his logia not working is ... poison.

This isn't someone who'd be a top class fighter without his fruit, he'd probably be a Don Krieg level pirate at most. Relying on trickery, poison and other non-direct ways of fighting. He just managed to get his hands on a powerful DF that elevated him to a much higher level.

Honestly, if you compare the difficulty Luffy had with Enel versus Croc you can see how an expert logia handles fighting his weakness over a novice one.

Enel lasted a long ass time in a fight against someone who was his natural weakness, taking several extremely powerful hits over and over again and still being able to fight after that.

For Croc it was literally game over when Luffy managed to damage him, it's no surprise he decided to camp in a desert. He's all about unfair advantages.

I'm a huge One Piece fan, but I'm really not digging the stuff that Oda has been doing lately. Everything is too crazy now, including the art and set pieces. I want my emotionally engaging story arcs back...

Not every arc needs to be some emotional roller-coaster. That was Fishman Island. We've been only like 8 chapters from that conclusion so the story is still being rounded out.

Anyways, One Piece is great when it's insane.

The Doorway to Summer

Bwahahaha that was amazing.

Warning I pretty much spoil the entire manga below so just scroll down quickly if you actually intend to read this (its only 70 pages!)

This is the story of the sparkly mangod pictured below

aRN4J.jpg

QPr3l.jpg

All the chicks want him including the innocent little princess that all the other guys like, but he thinks girls are icky.

wMb6x.jpg

That is until he gets raped by a prostitute who is like twice his age. Immediately after the rape he of course falls madly in love with the prostitute.

RcS6n.jpg

Then his BFF tries to suicide rape him.

xCp9J.jpg

Then two of the MC's friends have a duel over that princess girl the main character viciously NTRed and the MC gets shot trying to stop them. At the same time prostitute's employer comes back so she has to leave town and bail on the MC.

The End

Worst summer ever.

Hollow are much stronger in HM than on earth because of the high density of reshi.

Crocodile, the shichibukai.

Lol. When did i ever said that.

You're a bad liar.

Hey remember in the last thread when you posted some livejournal post about symbolism in Bleach? And them some people mocked Bleach, saying it has no depth?

You reacted, not by arguing the merits of the series you like, but by lashing out at another manga, unmentioned by any of the mockers.

You forget that i frequent this thread. stealth editor and snakeeyes bashed Bleach many times before. I had no obligation to explain anything to them. So drop the innocent act. You and other like to bash other manga just just to show that one piece is superior. It´s quite pathetic.

It's heavily implied by the way you argue.
Great mind reading ability there. And lol for taking umbrage and getting offended because someone criticized one piece.

Blue Exorcist

I caught up at the right time apparently with this arc ending in the latest chapter. I really like this series as a whole even though it's kinda predictable, but I don't understand why it exploded with popularity in Japan. It's not really that great.

Nana to Kaoru: Black Label

Rope marks, oh noes. But don't worry a bath will get rid of them because that's how it works. This being set 8 months fowards from the main series pisses me off because it means that Nana and Kaoru's relationship continues going pretty much nowhere during those 8 months.

Namiiro

For a harem series this is moving really fast. That being said it's probably going to slow down soon when the obvious twist with childhood friend happens and the kiss at the end of the latest chapter will either be brushed aside or won't be a kiss. I actually don't really like any of the girls. I do like that the main guy isn't quite as dense as other harem leads (fucking Rito).

Hana Michi Otome

Not as good as the first chapter and the female lead is kinda dull. I do like the male lead and I kinda wish he was the main character and that it was about him building his flower girl harem.

I don't care if someone criticizes One Piece, as long as I can find some sense of logic or consistency in their points.

I actually think most of the things DTL says make perfect sense if you understand his off-beat priorities. I don't judge him for not liking OP as much as FT.

However many and I mean many of the criticisms you voice against OP come across as stuff Bleach is at least equally iffy on. The fact that they're somehow always worse in OP makes it seem like selective hypocrisy from your side.
(and please don't just quote this line saying "where did I say OP's worse?", we both know you like Bleach better.)

Now you're implying I'm attempting to read your mind, but when you voice these criticisms of One Piece you are saying that, at least in your opinion, Bleach handles these issues a lot better right?

It's extremely implicit in your posts, so I don't see how it's "fanboy mind reading" for me to assume that's what you're trying to say.

(edit: I can understand you finding OP's pages jumbled for example, it's the exact opposite of Bleach so obviously you can prefer one over the other. I'm talking about the stuff Bleach is equally guilty of.)

I agree. One Piece worked best when it was quite emotional and had nice bits of action. I think Oda lost his way in the previous arc. This new arc seems to be on the same path however the action has been alright as he did involve the best crew members in actual real fighting (luffy zoro dragon).

Art has been alright but character design lacking after I guess Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Ace, and T. Law its as if he exhausted his resources of cool character designs and must make characters look ridiculous too compensate, dislike.

The anime most likely, which was actually a really good one. Rin was really cool in it, and had excellent action and music, check it out.

Defend Ichigo vs. Ulquiorra. Including the fucking hole through Ichigo's chest.

WHY THE FUCK DID YOU EDIT WHAT YOU SAID.

Great post...

I will repost it for you sake Stat Flow

Here´s what Urahara expaining to Ichigo that souls get stronger when they are in danger.

Here´s what hollow Ichigo said to Ichigo during the vizard training
Ichigo, what's the difference between a king and his horse? I don't mean kiddy shit like "One's a person and one's an animal" or "One has two legs and one has four." If their form, ability and power were exactly the same, why is it that one becomes the king and controls the battle, while the other becomes the horse and carries the king?! There's only one answer. Instinct! In order for identical beings to get stronger and gain the power they need to become king, they must search for more battles and power! They thirst for battle, and live to mercilessly, crush, shred, and slice their enemies! Deep, deep within our body lies the honed instinct to kill, and slaughter our enemies! But you don't have that! You don't have those pure, base instincts! You fight with your brain. You try to defeat your enemies with logic! And it doesn't work! You're trying to cut them with a sheathed sword! That's why you're weaker than me, Ichigo!"[153]
"I'm not gonna have it, Ichigo. I don't know about Zangetsu, but I refuse to carry a king who's weaker than me and get cut to ribbons with him. If you're weaker than me, then I'll destroy you, and take your crown for myself."[154]
"Shit. Looks like your instincts, and your desire to fight, aren't completely gone. Guess there's no way around it. You got me. I have to recognize you as the king, for now. But don't you ever forget! Don't forget that either one of us can become the king or the horse. If you ever give me the chance. I'll drag you down and crush your skull! And one last warning. If you really want to control my power, make sure you don't get yourself killed before I come back!

Ichigo turned completely into a hollow during the vizard training, and he had a hollow hole in his chest.

It was forshadowed in chapter cover 289 the scar mask
