I'm 100% sure there is going to be DLC. In fact, it's probably already on the disc. Nintendo made A LOT of money on the NSMB2 and Fire Emblem: Awakening DLC, so now they're turning into Capcom.

But despite your obvious joke post (because making money on DLC suddenly forces a company to make bad decisions now, SRSLY?), it does highlight a problem almost by accident. With all the people talking about DLC, I felt a need to repost something I said in the other MK8 thread.

After-market/post-production DLC is fine and I'm OK with it.

But I've already seen in this thread people suggest the former [day-1 DLC and/or purposely withheld content] and not the latter [post-production DLC], such as the roster being intentionally terrible or the lack of battle mode arenas to "justify" DLC later (read: intentionally holding back content), and people actually sighing in relief and gratitude at such a possibility.

It frightens me that DLC is an expectation instead of a great bonus to a fully-featured title in its own right, especially when it's framed in the context of purposefully withheld content like it has been in this thread.

It's not a bad decision. If the game doesn't launch soon, the WiiU is dead. While the roster is missing some fan favorites, it does have characters that cater to both casual (babies) and oldskool (Koopalings) players. Battle mode isn't a priority because most people don't play Mario Kart for Battle mode. The idea is to push out a game that appeals to the most amount of people possible that still comes out before it's too late.

Intentionally leaving content out to make money on it later is NEVER a good idea.

Now, if they offered us these things for no additional charge, that would be an entirely different matter, but then it's less DLC and more of a patch.

But they didn't leave content out. They still have characters that appeal to a wide range of audiences, and there's still a battle mode. You're pretending stuff was left out, when it simply was never included in the first place due to time constraints.

I misinterpreted you, apologies. I was confused because that was never part of what I personally believe, nor what I was posting about.

Yeah, unless it's Day 1 DLC I have zero issues with it.

Iwata thinks the same. Regardless of how the Wii U is selling, Nintendo is still willing to delay a games. I don't think anyone should worry about withheld content for DLC from Nintendo.

Family loves Mario so I bit the bullet and pre ordered MK8 , donkey kong TF and will download nsmbu Nd zombie U. They better love me haha. I don't think I'll buy Wii u games just for myself got the X1 for that. Will vet smash bros too

Just saw the Piranha Plants level footage from gamexplain. The lighting is excellent

The game (as a collective whole) is a great visual showcase of what the system is capable of, especially with the particle effects. Toad Harbour, Bone Dry Dunes, Sweet Sweet Canyon, Dolphin Shoals, Toad's Turnpike, & the N64 Rainbow Road are stunning to look at.

I generally love the lighting but from the footage I've seen the sewer lighting is minimal in places, whereby the graphics don't seem to get to shine (literally?) -- maybe I haven't watched it properly.

Here are my ideas on how they could have made minor edits to existing tracks to make arenas using retro tracks (don't have maps of new tracks to edit yet).

Moo Moo Meadows:

Just fence in the main meadow. Grass patches slow down anyone that drives over them but not items.

Sherbet Land:

Basically just block off the starting line path. You have two wide frozen ponds to fight in connected by a long path. Add launchers inside the ponds so players can exit from either end of them.

Yoshi Valley:
W3oXbqR.jpg

Just fence in the crazy paths in the valley. Add/remove some ramps so that some paths can be entered from either direction.

Dry Dry Desert:
yrC6O0N.jpg

Fence in the antlion trap area and the oasis area.

Donut Plains 3:
bj8CV69.jpg

Fence in the area above. Add bridges and ramps to allow more access to areas.

I wouldn't use Toad's Turnpike. The traffic is what makes it special and if you put up walls you gotta get rid of the traffic or something. Instead:

Tick Tock Clock:
n1CSjvh.jpg

Fight to the death on the giant clock. Just edit the exit so people can get back up and go all the way around.

Grumble Volcano:
Jyc3U5o.jpg

Fence in the area with the lava islands. Add some bridges and a big lava island in the middle for people to fight on and allow more access. Stage still falls apart over time.

I expect the inclusion of every last damned Koopaling (for no apparent reason) has something to do with the next Wii U Mario title. I can't fathom why else they'd do it.

... wait, they were filling out the roster so they can sell more desirable characters as DLC later. Oh god.

I'm so glad I always used the same characters in every Mario Kart no matter what. All this roster talk just made me realize how little I care about who makes it in as long as Koopa Troopa is safe.

I expect it had more to do with the likes of NSMBWii and NSMBU than anything. And of course they'd put 'every last damned' one. Why put some but not all?

I think it has to do with them being very popular characters that have appeared in the best 2D Mario games: SMB3, SMW, NSMBWii, and NSMBU (also NSMB2, but meh) over the past 26 years and each one of them is a very distinct character.

The hate the koopalings have been getting is mind boggling. People act like they're palette swaps.

I think that's part of the problem. For you that character is Koopa, but for someone else it could be Diddy Kong or Birdo or whatever.

Id swap NSMBU for SM3DW.

As for the topic of characters, theres some choices im not ecstatic about but this game has gone above and beyond the usual efforts put into a mario kart in a long time if ever so I'm willing to forgive some of the questionable picks/cuts. Im cautiously optimistic about battle mode. Tracks like Yoshi's Valley look like they will work well but other tracks im not too sure about.

Not sure if posted

A friend of mine posted a pic of the menu icon on his fb page. I'm assuming he has review code. I'm so fucking jealous. Even more if he has it at his house. He doesn't live far from me at all. In fact, very close...

It's even more strange when considering that, prior to NSMBWii, a good number of people moaned incessantly for Nintendo to bring them back into the Mario universe.

No matter what some people are going to complain. Id say the reaction to Koopalings being in MK were generally positive.

This. There's always a vocal minority.

I didn't even comment on the koopalings as I didn't have a chance at the time, but guess what picture has been my MacBook bg for the past 2 months?
