Marvel Legends (toyline)

No promises, but I could ask my buddy to make a banner. He's the art director at my studio. If he has time this weekend, he might be able to bust one out. Be warned, it'll probably have a Ninja Turtle in it.

There should one in everything. It is god's will.

Heres a really sloppy mock up. Just tossing stuff out there. Maybe little horizontal tabs that can be added as people become excited for different lines. It should have info that most people find important. The name of the line, scale, price, product license if it's not obvious. Maybe the year the line started.

Good brainstorming! Yeah I'd like to see it be as inclusive as possible. Marvel Legends and Black Series are great and timely examples of what's out there these days.

There are tons of popular lines these days but it would be nice to highlight some of the bigger ones. DC Collectibles should definitely be included. Transformers. Ninja Turtles. Nintendo stuff.

Maybe kind of divide things into theme instead of line? like "Marvel" instead of just "Marvel Legends" because for Marvel we have several lines: Marvel Legends, Marvel Universe/Infinite for the smaller figures, Marvel Select, then there's overseas stuff like figma, bandai, revoltech... this is by no means everything but in short, there's a lot of stuff out there!

Anyway I guess the real trick is finding out how to differentiate the OT from the FigureGAF thread because we don't want to step on that thread's toes. But there's definitely a lot of crossover appeal between things like figma/bandai/revoltech since they do make action figures too

Yeah, that's a good point. It should include as much as possible without being an unreadable mess. I think Marvel, DC, Star Wars, TMNT, Transformers, Video game figs, and maybe one other could all fit into a banner and people will get the gist of what the thread is about.

When I think of FigureGAF, I always picture the anime statues or maquettes, Hot Toys, and/or busts. Stuff that costs much more than the traditional 6-8" action figures you get at Target.

I agree. I suppose there could be some crossover with stuff like Hot Toys but we may want to keep Action Figure GAF away from that just to make sure it doesn't cross over with FigureGAF.

Yes. While I love me some Hot Toys (I have a bunch of them myself), I think it's better to keep them out of a thread like we are proposing.

Hey guys, I hate to break up the new OT discussion (which I'm totally for by the way) but I thought I'd share something with you guys first.

Being a Canadian Marvel Legends fan is hard. In fact, being a Canadian fan of any toy is hard! We constantly get shafted on stuff, and the last Marvel Legends line we got here was The Winter Soldier (no GotG or X-Men). So imagine my surprise when I walked into my local Toys R Us today to see these sitting on the shelf:

I didn't think we'd be getting these at all, let alone weeks early. I guess after the stories of American TRUs selling new Amiibo early, this is just the company's new status quo.

I'm not 100% sure of the ratio, they had only one of every figure, except Hawkeye who was 2 (and somebody bought one of them as I went to check out the Amiibo). Paying $24.99 each absolutely killed me, but I figured I'll never ever get these otherwise. I managed to only walk out with these 3,but I desperately want to go back for Thor, he is huge and incredible in person. And Machine Man. And Hawkeye. Maybe not Sentry.

And in case anyone wasn't sure, Machine Man/ Sentry and Scarlet Witch/ Captain Marvel are swaps, but they each come with variant pieces, so you can make either Odin or King Thor.

So who knows, go check your local TRU (unless it's my local TRU.... leave those for me).

The hunt begins.

Checked out my local TRU and Meijer on the way home today- nothing new yet, but I'm excited to start the routines again.

The case ratio is indeed one of everyone and two Hawkeyes- glad my most wanted figure from the set won't be too hard to find.

Subscribed even though I know nothing about collecting figures. They look so damn cool. I'm looking forward to an OP that talks about the different toy makers, what to look for in a quality made toy, where to buy, all that good stuff.

Canadian here too. Thanks for the heads up. I asked my local comic shop about that Captain Marvel and they'd let me know when they had one but I'm not convinced they'll let me know. I may check out a TRU tomorrow in hopes of ensuring I get one.

Congrats on the ML score, especially in Canada!

I have my full set ordered... can't wait for them to ship

yeah i was reading on /toy/ earlier that they have been spotted. Lots of Americans are finding them too the last couple days

But since 4chan is playing that fucking moot livestream on every board and I can't figure out how to block it with adblock i'm avoidning 4chan right now

Hot Toys figures are rarely posted on FigureGAF that place is 99% anime girl most of them statues as well.

I am feeling like we are the founding fathers debating the laws of our future country
While I don't have Hot Toys myself, if I ever get lucky enough to afford a few I think Action Figure GAF will appreciate them more, most FigureGAF is just into... how should I put it... other things?

I just think that the people that collect Hot Toys are more in the mentality of a Action Figure fan (super heroes, star wars etc) than the one of anime girl satue collector.

It could always be mentioned in the OP but without making it seem like it's one of the main topics for discussion. Then if people post about them, it can just be discussed like any other figure that fits in with action figures.

Yeah, I can see where you're coming from. Hot Toys are mostly super hero themed or pop culture themed... Maybe they can be the bridge between both threads?

"If you like these, then maybe you'll like X_GAF"

EDIT - Oh, just wanted to give a heads up on the banner. My buddy just told me he's got a lot of other stuff to do this weekend (side projects and what not), so he might not be able to get it by Monday. If you guys don't want to wait and want to give it a shot yourselves, go ahead. I didn't want to over promise something and then it never happens.

I can agree on that, a few basic rules on the OT explaining the differences between action figure GAF and FigureGAF will do wonders, looking forward to it.

I think we can take some inspiration from the Funko OT. That one is done very well.

Also: Video reviews and images of the Allfather wave here (Marvelous News).

I like that Funko image but I've got decent internet and it took a while to load. It's a pretty big image. Maybe not quite so big?

Also, that video really makes me hope that I can find one of those Captain Marvels.

Sounds good.

I lurk at figure GAF, but I don't collect import figures (mainly for budgetary reasons-my money goes to LEGO). I do have a huge toy/action figure collection though.

So once it launches I'm in DAY ONE.

So happy I skipped STRIKE suit Cap, this one looks so much better.
There is a reason strike suit cap can still be found and for a reasonable (by Hot Toys standards) price while first avenger cap or classic suit cap are super expensive and difficult to find everywhere. everybody want cap rocking this type of suit.
so let's say I want that bad boy and don't want to pay after market prices for it, what's a good place for pre-ordering him?

Ughhhhhh I have Strike suit coming in march and I'm already starting to regret buying him. Thinking of maybe selling him before I even open him.

have you ever ordered from Sideshow? The payments plans are a blessing and if you wait a few months after it goes up for preorder it's very easy to find a $20 off coupon

They will usually let you split your payment into 2,3 or 4 payments so a $200 item could be as low as $50 bucks a month. They always have different payments plans for each figure so we will have to wait for the Pre-Order to go up before finding out whats available.

When I moved back to my home state years ago I found my marvel legends in a plastic bin in the garage. Lots of variants that are kinda jacked :( such sad. I'm no MIB'er, I like to fuck around with toys. I had a lot of them from the old toy biz waves though.

Best figures ever. And soooo cheap.

that's cool, send me a PM if you find out when pre-orders are up, that would be greatly appreciated

I heard that underpriced figures had a part in getting Toy Biz shut down. No clue if it's true.

http://www.onesixthbruce.co.uk/ - Used to be the go to place, always has the cheapest prices, was a victim of their own success and took on too many pre-orders, then had the bright idea of getting hot toys shipped by boat, 7-10 months later when they arrived in UK ports collectors end up so pissed off they swear them off. While they are still trying to correct this wrong, I'm posting them up because they still are the cheapest in the UK if you can tolerate eventually one day getting your figure. Later this year their shit should be sorted out, but I'm not recommending again them until they do.

http://www.collectablekitbash.co.uk/default.asp - Second best prices, fantastic service, pre-orders close fast on popular stuff, they never bite off more then they can chew, plus they stock tons of parts and accessories if you want to get into customizing your figures.

http://www.thegoodthebadandtherobots.co.uk/ A smaller place, run by a great guy, prices vary. Posts on the sideshow freaks forums, very friendly and easy to deal with...

http://www.discontoys.com/ Best place to find harder to get stuff, can be pricey, but if your looking for hard to get hot toys, or missed a pre-order window, always worth a look anyway...

You already heard of Collectibles Direct, which has that awesome layaway plan like sideshow that will make buying anything high-end a hell of alot easier. There are/were a bunch more but they have worse reps then OSB does...

Yeah. I really thought I was gonna sell my Golden Age Cap when I got him in, but I like him more than I thought and he displays well with Winter Soldier. He won't fit with my makeshift Phase II display though. Not rebuying Thor and Widow for that display. Still not sure if I'll keep my XLIII preorder or if I'll just use my XLII I already have.

Hot Toys is such an expensive rabbit hole.

dorksidetoys.com will be issuing pre-orders for the next Star Wars Black Series figures tomorrow

If you are collecting them I recommend pre-ordering (at your preferred retailer) Bossk. I recommend against ordering a case because 2 of the 4 figures are re-releases and the 4th is Han in Stormtrooper Armor, which is going to be re-issued in the NEXT wave. The next wave will have Luke & Han (both in stormtrooper armor), Emperer and IG-88, so it will be a great wave to order a case of... assuming you hold off on Han.

Not sure when the Luke & Wampa goes on pre-order:

I know how much HT's go for, but I just couldn't warrant the purchase, personally.

that's ok, Hot Toys are the Ferrari of Action Figures, they are not meant to be owned by everyone. Plenty of different options and a wide variety of prices when it comes to action figures, it's good to have options.
