By the hoary hosts of Hoggath! Today Activison announced its plans for Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. Developed by Raven Software and C.B. Cebulski the action/role-playing game will feature the largest roster of comic book characters ever stuffed into one video game.

Of the more than 140 Marvel characters over 20 will be playable. Players can take on the great power and great responsibility over comic book favorites such as Spider-Man, Wolverine, Blade and Captain America.

"Marvel: Ultimate Alliance delivers a new twist on action/RPGs where players' actions and choices ultimately determine what happens to the Marvel universe," states Will Kassoy of Activision. "This coupled with the game's enormous character roster will deliver an action-packed experience that comic book fans have been waiting for."

Ultimate Alliance will allow players to create their own team name, icon and vehicle, and well as establish their team reputation as they play through their choice of multiple missions. Tweakable character leveling will give gamers the choice to focus on individual heroes or team-wide upgrades. With avengers assembled battle Marvel super baddies through multiple environments with all manner of combat moves and super hero powers.

Multiplayer modes will let players join friends and fight evil do-ers on and off line in co-op modes. An in-game stat tracking mode will allow you to see how you rate against others.

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance is slated for deployment on all next-gen gaming systems, including Wii, this fall.

OH SHIT

X-MEN...I MEAN MARVEL LEGE...I MEAN MARVEL: ULTIMATE ALLIANCE.

I am, however, very excited that it will feature online play on Wii. That is good news that 3rd parties aren't abandoning the WiFi integration.

if it's actually a meaty game with lots of features and a longish mission (30 hours or so) it might end up being really good.. Great concept.

At the end of the article

You just posted the text, where's the actual article? I've got a friend at Raven that wasn't sure about Wii support... That's why I'm wondering.

I thought it strange it was missing from the console list in the Game Informer spread but I thought maybe it was because they were changing the name of the console. So yea i'm interested to hear if its really going to be on it or not.

Thank fucking god this is coming to Wii. It's one third party title I must have.

It's bad enough that microsoft has the exclusive Marvel MMORPG, (and to a lesser extent Sony with the DC one) I don't wanna miss out on this.:)

Sweet, game soudns fun.

However I move that we jsut refer to the system as the NDub from now on.

I am fine with referring to it as Wii. But I will suggest instead of NDub, use Nvy (Envy). Get it???

I thought Nwii was pretty clever (pronounced as ennui).

Harsh, but clever.

I just realized, with this announcement, that we've met our "two-a-day" game quota for Wii.

I wonder if this trend will keep up all the way to E3?

You.. you do realize there's basically no way a Marvel MMO can be anything other than a ripoff of City of Heroes with an occasional Marvel name drop, right? Plus they'll have the Star Wars Galaxies Jedi problem - everyone wants to be Spiderman or Wolverine, no one wants to be "Generic Ice Superhero 176," and they want to battle Vulture and Venom and Galactus, not petty thieves.

I'm a marvel nut. There should be plenty of geek service, I think they have the rights to every character.

Plus a makeshift Avengers made up of custom characters would be fun.

140 characters? So we're gonna end up with a lot of shallow copies and maybe a dozen at best really useful characters. Meh.

Not gonna happen, THQ owns the video game rights to The Punisher and Daredevil.

Eh no. Technically Activision could include those characters, however they just can't make a stand alone game based on The Punisher or Daredevil.

I'm eagerly anticipating this game. The X-Men Legends games are a lot of fun for what they are.

I will probably get one of the next-gen versions, given the choice.
