Oh there is one... mass effect itself! It's not explained in any way what it is exactly. Also, Bioware gets there science and technology explanations just wrong at times.

Hmmm. Did Bioware attempt to build this Element Zero into any of the currently popular field theories? The description is just fishy to me, but if they did something like that, it'd be cool as hell. I'd gladly read it.HK-47 said:Element Zero is a well defined science fiction creation. Its not like the force, even after the force was discovered to be shit in your blood.

If they're going for the same mission-style system in ME3, then I don't mind.BladeoftheImmortal said:Oh and no fucking stats screen at the end of a story quest. Really brings you out of the world.
credibility destroyed instantly.Confidence Man said:Pretty sad they have to add "richer RPG features" to an RPG. As long as Christina Norman is lead gameplay designer I have no hope for this game. This was the person who said Mass Effect was too "RPG-ish", that leveling up interrupts gameplay, planet scanning was "fun", etc...

But really, the whole ME soundtrack was so much better than ME2. I was so disappointed with the music in ME2.
Zen said:I understand the point you're making, but it's only a point within the context of the larger argument about the Reaper strength, and that doesn't hing on Sovereign being able to tank the Citadel solo or not. My post was about you under valuing the strength of Sovereign and I pointed out why I felt that way.Sovereign being able to shit kick the entire Fifth Fleet that was exclusively focusing on him, and was almost completely ineffective in damaging him, is pretty good evidence to the point that the Citadel fleet would have suffered heavy loses if Sovereign had attempted a solo suicide mission.

alerus said:This response will probably be unnoticed since I wasn't able to get back to it until 8000 posts have filled the gap, however, while I think the fleet would take some losses, the fact that it was actually the Geth that did the vast majority of the damage means people can't refer to Sovereign taking on the whole fleet as the metric for his power. It's just not true. The casualties the Alliance faces is really the only number metric you can use, and as it turns out, the Alliance has the most remaining in the end. That is really the point I'm making here. Not that Sovereign isn't tougher than a number of ships combined. Although, the new weapon tech throws a real wrench in the analysis.
You're the one that took issue with him calling it more like Star Wars than Star Trek!HK-47 said:This isnt fucking hard sci fi here. Its a space opera.

Relaxed Muscle said:I really think the mos dissapointing thing of the trailer is not that the focus seems the Earth, it's the "recruit shit for ultimate battle" they did in ME2 seems back..., so the chances of improving the universe that surrounds ME and ME2 forgot is slim....

Wallach said:I feel like people don't really remember this sequence very well. Sovereign attacks the Citadel with the assistance of the Geth fleet. It's clearly powerful but if Sovereign had not made it inside the Citadel before they sealed the arms it's possible it would have died in that battle. Without the Geth there it's almost a certainty.
tokkun said:I don't see how anyone couldn't have seen the "recruit ally races" plot coming prior to the trailer. I don't know how it could have been foreshadowed any more clearly in the first two games. That's certainly what I was thinking about when I made decisions in ME2 that affected the potential readiness of various potential allies like the Quarians and Geth.
And I also don't see how that precludes expanding your view of the Universe. Maybe recruiting will mean that you get to see the home worlds of some more of the major races.

Shhh....MGrant said:What the fuck people? We know precisely three things about this game so far: that it involves Shepard, Earth, and reapers on said Earth. But according to people in this thread:
1. The game takes place on Earth and only on Earth.
2. There are absolutely no RPG elements.
3. Everything takes place in a corridor.
4. WHY WON'T THEY LISTEN TO MEEEE GOD I COULD MAKE A BETTER MASS EFFECT WITHOUT EVEN TRYING
Calm down, GAF.

Nobody may be saying any of that individually, but all of those are are elements of the impression one takes away from reading this thread. Or at least, that's the impression I've been getting.LCfiner said:No one is saying number 1.

what people are saying is that the focus on earth seems odd considering the lack of importance of earth in previous ME games.
the other changes from ME1 to ME2 of streamlining and eliminating RPG elements may or may not carry forward to ME3, but the trailer does not really hint at it one way or another.
CF_Fighter said:Every trailer has focused on Shepherd coming to the call of a human colony or settled world. This was just to show that the Reapers are now targeting the homeworlds of every major race in the galaxy that is connected to the Mass Relay network. I liked how it made it clear that Shepherd hasn't decided whether or not to help Earth. He's there, but hasn't acted yet. I wouldn't be surprised if Bioware allowed you to let Earth fall to the Reapers.
