LATIN, MATRIPEDICABUS, DO YOU SPEAK IT
McDonald’s Plans Angus Big Mac in Australia:

Since its national introduction in 1968, McDonald’s Big Mac has been composed of “two all-beef patties, Special Sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame-seed bun,” according to the jingle. But later this month McDonald’s will depart from that classic build with the limited-time addition of an Angus Mac variation in Australia, where Angus burgers remain on the menu and continue to be popular.

Taking the place of two-all beef patties will be a single Angus beef patty, a McDonald’s spokesperson has confirmed to BurgerBusiness.com. The other key ingredients—Special Sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions—will be there, however, making it one of the few official Big Mac variations McDonald’s has allowed. All of them have been introduced in international markets. In January of this year, McDonald’s Japan brought back a four-patty Mega Mac sandwich it has offered before. In Germany last year, McDonald’s tried a 45% larger Bigger Big Mac.

The Angus Mac will be on menus in Australia on August 28, just before Father’s Day (celebrated there on the first Sunday in September). In keeping with the paternal occasion, McDonald’s also will debut a slightly smaller Son of Mac. That gives McDonald’s operators a less expensive burger to balance the premium-tier Angus Mac, priced at AU$5.95 (US$5.34). Special Father’s Day cupcakes also will be made available, according to sources.

Angus Third Pounder burgers were removed from the U.S. menu in May of this year and replaced by upgraded Quarter Pounders. But the Angus Mac still could appear on the U.S. menu in the future: During McDonald’s “Open Door” meeting in June, CEO Don Thompson told BurgerBusiness.com that bringing back Angus burgers as LTOs has not been ruled out.

McDonald’s Australia has reported negative same-store sales this year, pushing it to develop new budget-friendly offers. As reported here earlier, that includes the current “Making Early Easy” promotion involving free breakfast items on successive Mondays through Aug. 19. Another current promotion also involves a giveaway: A free Coca-Cola glass with purchase of any large Extra Value Meal.

McDonald’s Big Mac has become so ubiquitous globally that it has become an accepted measurement of international currency valuations. British magazine The Economist famously created its Big Mac Index in 1986 based on what it says was “the notion that in the long run exchange rates should move towards the rate that would equalise the prices of an identical basket of goods and services (in this case, a burger) in any two countries. For example, the average price of a Big Mac in America in July 2013 was $4.56; in China it was only $2.61 at market exchange rates. So the “raw” Big Mac index says that the Yuan was undervalued by 43% at that time.” The most recent Big Mac Index can be accessed here.

I assume Son of Mac will look similar, just smaller.

Other recent variations of the Big Mac mentioned in the article include Germany's Bigger Big Mac from last year and Japan's Mega Mac from earlier this year.

Holy.. How does someone even EAT a Mega Mac? That can't possibly fit into a persons mouth..

Also, kinda surprised they sell that in Japan but not here. Seems more our style.

Looks absolutely disgusting. I don't know how people eat Mcdonalds especially their beef. You know its bad 5 mins after you eat it and you have ebonic plague burned plastic smelling farts. Not normal.

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
I don't eat McD's often, but I much prefer their angus range so I'll be all over that Big Mac.

I want my Angus Mushroom Swiss back. That's the best burger McDonald's has ever made and they got rid of it. Back to the Quarter Pounder I go.

They're amazing. I had one at Narita International Airport back in June of 2009 during a layover on my way to China. I ate it on a full stomach because I was not sure I'd ever get the chance to try a Mega Mac again. Best stomach ache and subsequent dump I've ever had. Talk about a grand entrance into China. Clogging an airport bathroom toilet. Take that socialism.

I generally stay away from junk food, but I have a tradition of eating a Big Mac at every country I visit. So far my list is:

  • USA (home)
  • Canada
  • India
  • China
  • Japan
  • New Zealand
  • Australia
  • Germany

I hope to greatly expand this list as life happens.

I remember working at McDonald's and being the "new" guy. They made me do grill for like 3 hours. Needless to say that it turned me off all meat from McDonald's indefinitely. Really is disgusting. (Only did grilling once, next time they asked I said "Hell no" :lol )

Had you ever seen ground beef before?

You can get double big macs and double quarter pounders anytime in Canada. They are even listed along with the regular meals.

Angus cattle are one of the most common breeds in the Australian cattle industry. It's likely that McDonalds patties were already made of angus beef.

I wonder if NZ is getting this too.

We probably will, we usually get the same stuff as Australia.

I've never really been a fan of the Big Mac but I suppose I'll give this a try since it's been so long since I've had one. My favorite burger at McDonalds right now (in NZ/Aus at least) is the Big Tasty, I've had it a couple of times and really liked it.

I'm still suprised they haven't made a "mini mac" yet. For the same price as a mcdouble, imagine if they put all the big mac fixings onto a normal cheeseburger bun - this is like a multi billion dollar idea that I don't get why they haven't used yet.

A few years ago they had the mac snack wrap which accomplished something very similar but they have since gotten rid of it.

Is "MEHR" German, or how a morbidly obese person says "more?"

I remember that we got Double Big Macs for a short while, but I think they were killed off around the same time Super Sizes were.

Pro-tip, you can customize any item on the mc'd menu, that's how you end up with "McGangBangs" and other fun stuff. Sometimes I ask for a double filet o fish and it's no biggie.

In addition to this, Maccas have been running this competition where you get a free Big Mac for voting on videos. Made for some nice snacks in between classes the past few days lol.

Where is this happening? I have a Maccas right next to my uni, I could do with some free food.
