I'd have assumed that they were coming out guns blazing anyway after wii u/3DS launches. Anything less would be suicide.

Pokèmon however is unexpected given the new games coming in November.

Here's how I see the NX launch playing out in an ideal world.

Nintendo typically makes 20 games a year. Thanks to the combined development platform we know the NX will likely get all 20 games. Plus a few WiiU ports

Launch - Zelda BotW, New IP, Racing Game(Mario Kart 9???) plus Wii U ports Smash 4, Splatoon and Mario Maker (if they can get it working) then a new game every 2 weeks, with tentpole releases every few months (June, September and November.) which will include a new 3D Mario towards the end of the year.

3rd Partys
Ubi - Just Dance, Rayman, and Possibly Steep.
Capcom, - Monster Hunter, possibly a fighting game later in the launch window
Activision - Skylanders, Overwatch and Destiny 2 (with all of destiny 1 able to be played immediately by anyone who pre orders destiny 2 digitally)
Square - FF Something,
Warner - Lego Games,

Plus a few Japanese 3rd partys I'm forgetting like youki watch

Are we allowed to post reddit rumors here? I saw a Youtube video just now showing a Reddit rumor that talks about this new Pokemon game for the NX.

Here's some of the info

They had some more stuff about the story. I'll add the link if it's allowed.

This is fake as hell lol!

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage

If I were in charge, Mario Kart would be a launch title. That series sells systems.

That said, it isn't happening. It's probably their big holiday title.

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.
We all know there will be a Zelda, Mario, and Pokemon for this thing. What will convince me is some nice megatons. After all the Bayonetta 2 announcement get me to pick up a Wii U.

I'm curious what Retro is working on and if Nintendo has secured any exclusives from third parties.

I will never get the obsession with console Pokémon. It'd be cool, but I'm not dying for it.

I'll be happy with Sun/Moon ports, but I'm secretly hoping it'll be an early surprise Pokémon Eclipse release.

If its going to be a Sun/Moon port or even Ecilpse, i just hope they let us know before the 3DS version is released.

I dont like double dipping. And i dont have that much time to be playing multiple pokemon games.

I assumed from the beginning the Pokemon games would be getting ported to the NX since they are coming out so close to the release of it. Will happily skip the 3DS version.

Yeah, I hope so too. I might sell my 3DS right away and just wait till March for my Pokémon fix. Pokémon is the only reason I'm keeping it.

March 2017 will be 3 years since Mario Kart 8 came out, and Mario Kart games typically take around 3 years to make, So It really just depends on how long it took to make the MK8 DLC. I'd be very surprised if Mario Kart 9 wasn't released some time next year

I am expecting Mario Kart to be a launch title. Also hoping for Splatoon NX to make launch.

The question is, will Namco have a Ridge Racer launch game? Or is that series dead?

Seems legit. giggle

You probably assumed something similar six years ago.

I can definitely see Zelda (duh), Mario, and a Pokemon spin-off hitting the system within the first six months, but a GF title? I dunno, seems a bit incredulous to me.

I'd be psyched if true though.

I really don't see it. It'd be cool to be wrong though. I think 3D Mario will be the Christmas game. And I don't see MK at lauch

May 2018 or Christmas 2018 I'd say

There will definitely be some sort of racing game at launch. If it's not Mario Kart I wouldn't be surprised, but May 18 would be the absolute latest it would launch. If Nintendo is trying to support the NX by itself it needs its Tentpole System sellers out as early as possible.

Why cant it just launch with a mario, zelda, and pokemon title instead of a 6 month window?

They want us to literally pre order hopes and dreams

Are we really sure it's been enough time?
The DLC finished in May 2015 iirc.

now, DLC tends to have a lot less people working on it. And we don't know how much of the DLC was done in 2014.

That being said, is 2-3 years enough time to produce a game on the scale of MK8, but bigger? I don't really think so.
The only way is if MK9 is more of an upgrade to MK8 and not closer to an overhaul like from mkwii to mk8.

I read in other place that a Zelda game too would be released in up to six months of the NX release date, I just hope that this does not mean that Breath of the wild would be released on September. And I think that a new Mario 3D game should be released together with the console. And I will not be surprised if the Pokemon game is Pokemon Go.

Why should the nx just be like "every video game system ever"? We need to start holding these companies to a higher standard and they need to give us killer apps fresh out of the gate.
The PS4 and Xbox One seemed to sell fine without killer apps at launch. Enthusiasts are going to buy at launch pretty much no matter what. Why delay it or rush games to meet launch when it won't have a huge effect on sales?

I'm still seriously doubting they'll switch engines for the next mario kart. MK8 is by far the most impressive game on the system. Would be shocked if they don't re-use the assets for the NX version. I suppose they can push the graphics even further if they really want...

If you care about the system you'll buy it right away, if not then wait a year until it has a lot of games to buy it. Nobody is forcing you to buy something day 1.

I've started thinking this recently. The next Mario Kart game, if I had to guess, will probably be built heavily on the ground MK8 established, kind of like how Mario Kart Wii seemed to be built off of Double Dash (at least graphically). No point chucking out all that hard work and leaving it on the Wii U.

Games take time to make, releasing all at once would make them compete with each other, and there won't be much for the rest of the year.

I think there's a lot Nintendo can do with WiiU so having the chance to continue with something like it but with more power as their main platform probably has a lot of benefits.
MK8 with at a higher resolution and slightly better texture work would still be in the top best looking games of the generation so it's exciting to see them push it more

I wouldn't put it past them to do Red2/Blue2. That shit would turn heads.

Just remake them again, it has been like 12 years. We have been to Kanto too many times for a sequel in the place to ever feel fresh and just being a remake will suffice to bring back nostalgia seekers

That wasn't the best hardware at the time though.

Most durable, not most powerful.
It did have the most powerful hardware of its generation. It was their choice of physical media for their games that fucked it up. Aside from the CD vs cartridge debate that Nintendo lost handily, the N64 was unquestionably more powerful than the PS1. If only so much didn't ride on those damn carts.

Why should the nx just be like "every video game system ever"? We need to start holding these companies to a higher standard and they need to give us killer apps fresh out of the gate.

We should tell these game companies to stop time itself to work on games for launch (even though large company game development is a very tricky balancing act and even if they essentially put down Wii U development, it does not mean they can just take on game after game in such a fashion quick enough to get all of them at launch.)

Yeah, best way to show progress would be by remaking Red, I'd think.
Kind of like comparing LTTP to OOT, hopefully Pokemon will finally make the jump to full 3D without fixed camera angles

If they remake Red/Green again, they should make it a reverse Gold/Silver where once you beat the Champion, you get to go to Johto.

The Pokemon MMO thing is a damn good idea though. Or at least an open world game with all the regions together. Make it happen!

Mainly because if this and Sinnoh remakes happen, all 7 Pokemon regions will be in 3D.

Japanese support is super expected. Those publishers needed a handheld post Vita/3DS. Question is if they'll just port their current lineups or pump out exclusives for this thing.

I'm betting on the former considering that it'll support Unreal 4 with ease.

Come on. These can't be real thoughts. Do you understand anything about business or how this industry functions?

Believes Dragon Quest is a franchise managed by Sony
Well. That's bad news for Nintendo. I'm excited for it, but I feel like PS4/X1 gamers won't be excited for it- like they claimed in the MVC article they're aiming for.

They were not going to excite PS4 and XB1 gamers who feel fine with what they have anyway. I see no point to your doomsaying about Nintendo. They are trying to come up with something unique that satisfies their own development practices.

you should stop talking about Nintendo trying to take gamers away from PS4 and XB1 and PC, and more about how Nintendo can excite those gamers to also purchase a NX in addition to the systems they already use as their mainline console, as well as entree level users who are looking for something that those other consoles don't provide. PS4 and XB1 do not satisfy the kids demographic or family demographic at all because they only care about blood and action and shooting.

Nintendo has a huge library that caters to that other neglected demo

Also...

Nintendo can do the exact same thing like Sony and Microsoft, which are planning to release a console every 1-2 years.

Or do their own thing.

I know what I would do.

I don't know about MS's plan, but Sony has said that they are not annualizing their consoles, so that's blatantly not true
