So will we see a Wii dropoff for Dec 25-31? How does the last week of the year typically go?
I'll quote a bit I said earlier in the thread:
Historically going from this week to the next sales are generally down. Where supply is an issue this may differ; if those numbers Square posted are actually indicative of things at large it seems Wii games held up better than most games.

The COMGNET numbers Square2005 posted being
this week vs. last week
1 DraQue Monsters ~ Joker 1449 New
2 Wii Play 226 217
3 Wii Sports 215 229

4 yakuza THE BEST 184 ???
5 Seiken Densetsu 4 165 518
6 New Super Mario Bros. 165 295
7 Yakuza 2 122 126
8 Animal Forest DS 119 260
9 東北大学未来科学技術共同 DS... 111 ???
10 Kirby Star 109 361
11 Pocket Monster Diamond 99 306
12 Mario Kart DS 91 148
13 Need For Speed Carbon 82 New
14 Pocket Monster Pearl 81 225
15 東北大学未来科学技術共同 DS... 79 ???
16 World Tales: Radiant Mythology 77 479
17 M.S. Gundam SEED Z.A.F.T.2+ 74 140
18 Odoru Made in Wario (Wii) 73 96
19 平成教育委員会DS 69
20 監修日本常識力検定協会い DS... 66 ??
Of the 4 that dropped least, 3 were Wii. I realize extrapolating a lot from this is a Bad Thing, though.

Anyone seen the new Famitsu yet?

Supposedly Iwata won the "Most influential Exec in the Japanese industry" award?

Ahead of KK and the Mistwalker guy...? I errrrrr'd too!

Sakaguchi established a company that can put out several killer app RPGs now... Blue Dragon didnt do well in Japan.. but in NA and Europe it will probably do rather well.. (especially in Europe.. DQ 8 was huge there)

its not only the sales but the development team that got evaluated highly i guess..

Mistwalker is in their early stage.. what they need now is quality.. they need to prove that they are a serious deal... since they will be pulling development investments from Microsoft and Nintendo...

Last year's chart for this week came out on the 7th in Japan. The one for next week came out on the 12th.

So expect Media Create's chart on Sunday and the next one at normal time. Probably no update today!

Nintendo could easily sell 300k Wiis this week and another 200k or so over the New Year's week as this is the biggest shopping period of the year in Japan.

The question is what exactly did they ship.

Can someone translate the TOP 30 please?

Thx! :)

I'll only do 21-30 since verplant (I think) translated 1-20 earlier. :)

21. (DS, IE Institute) Tokoton Kanjinou - 36,412 / 150,527
22. (DS, Takara Tomy) Naruto: Shinobi Retsuden - 30,132
23. (DS, Square Enix) Chocobo and the Magic Book - 29,065
24. (PS2, Sega) Yakuza (PlayStation 2 The Best) - 28,966 / 216,655
25. (DS, Nintendo) Magic Taizen - 28,325 / 103,854
26. (DS, Bandai Namco) Tamagotchi 2 - 28,304 / 637,996
27. (DS, Nintendo) Mario Kart DS - 26,589 / 1,691,583

29. (PSP, Konami) World Soccer Winning Eleven 10 Ubiquitous Evolution - 25,852

Currently, we have 9 million seller in 2006 (Famitsu). Since 96, it's the record.

1/ Pokemon Diamond & Pearl (NDS, Nintendo) 3,748,570
2/ Brain Training 2 (NDS, Nintendo) 3,577,207
3/ New Super Mario Bros. (NDS, Nintendo) 3,552,721
4/ Animal Crossing Wild World (NDS, Nintendo) 2 298 856 [3,468,613]
5/ Final Fantasy XII (PS2, Square-Enix) 2,296,003
6/ Brain Training (NDS, Nintendo) 1,906,541 [2,917,882]
7/ English Training (NDS, Nintendo) 1,436,748
8/ Mario Kart DS (NDS, Nintendo) 1,022,008 [1,691,583]
9/ Winning Eleven 10 (PS2, Konami) 1,018,101

10/ Tetris DS (NDS, Nintendo) 889,178

If we just count this 7 games (Pokemon is for Pokémon Compagny) the total sales for Nintendo in 2006 is 14,683,255. And it's not finished, and it's not all.

The total sales for Nintendo in 2005 is 11,029,677. And for 2004 is 10,972,534 (Famitsu for all).

7/9 million sellers are Nintendo (DS)?!
8 if you count Pokemon. 9 if you count them separately.

EDIT - Didn't Tetris recently pass 1 million going by MC numbers?

I just use the Famitsu numbers, but it's actually possible to Tetris DS finished the year with more to 1 million. Wait two weeks now.

It's nice to see Nintendo back in such a big way. Call me crazy but they don't get enough credit these days for the great company that they are, instead ending up as the butt of a lot of jokes, and it's about time people took notice. I just hope they can use this financial windfall to really solidify their position (i.e. BUY SOME DEVS AND STUDIOS. MATSUNO, KAMIYA, GRASSHOPPER. BUY BUY BUY.).

So you want them to be Microsoft?

Well it's not like Microsoft invented acquiring talented developers and studios. And Nintendo could use some big first and second party exclusives that aren't Mario, Zelda, etc. to lure the cynical and and invigorate their games lineup if third parties are just going to continue to sleep on them. Grasshopper in particular I think would be a really great fit. Suda51 has commented often on how he shares a similar philosophy with Nintendo. Why not gobble them up, expand them, and help them with the development of their games to turn flawed but worthy titles like Killer7 and Contact into surefire gems? And Matsuno's not doing anything (that we know of), and is clearly intrigued by the idea of the Wiimote. Give him some money and some people under him and have him crank out a masterpiece.

It's a bit of a double-edged sword, isn't it? They already dominate software sales on their systems. To go all-out like that with even more games would bring more competition to their games from themselves, and leave smaller scraps for third parties.

Iwata would never do such a thing. He will continue on projects with other studios, but buying them is not Nintendo's policy anymore and won't be as long as Iwata is president.

If Wii managed to stay #1 in japan by a significant margin (like 2:1 or even 3:1) by end of 2007, the third party will come. guaranteed.

Nintendo can churn out games for their handhelds pretty fast but not so much with their consoles. The handhelds have way more 3rd party support so the gaps are filled but it's not yet the case with Wii. For a company looking to cater to everyone they don't really have much that appeals to me. I like action games, shooters, violence, and online. I mean they've gotten better with stuff like Battalion Wars and Fire Emblem but honestly will Wii ever fill those real niches? I hope it does cause the possibilities are endless, but it seems like most of the A teams are focused on the A hardware. Hopefully we see meatier efforts truly pushing the hardware like GTA, FF, Halo, DMC, MGS, GT, serious fighters, but it doesn't seem like Nintendo will go after or ever produce those types of games. Unlike the handheld arena until they really move some hardware that kind of support won't come to them. Some has to make that market on Wii, I guess Ubi Soft is trying but swing and a miss.

Software market share:
NDS 60.0 %
PS2 19.7
Wii 10.1
PSP 4.2
Xbox360 2.5
PS3 1.7
GBA 1.7
Others 0.1

Interestingly, XBox360 software outsold PS3

Likely for the year, what put 360 ahead of PS3 is software Blue Dragon and DOAX2 and PS3's shortage.

Is there still a PS3 shortage? As both versions are readily available at Amazon, I would not have expected this.
