For me its not even close.

IMO there at least ten games on the snes that no DS game can even come close to touching.

Super Mario World
Super Mario World 2 YI
Zelda alltp
Super Metroid
Super Mario Kart
Super Mario RPG
Final Fantasy 4
Final Fantasy 6
Secret of Mana
Chrono Trigger
Megaman X
Contra 3
Street Fighter 2 Turbo
EVO
NBA Jam
TMNT 4

Honestly other than Trauma Center I don't think I could put any DS game in my top 25.

At this point in lifetime of the DS, I agree. Continuation of the off topic discussion. The past few weeks I've been replaying most of these games on the SNES, and it's incredible just how much the gameplay, level design, quality of the sound, art and the fun factor hold up in 2008.

Anyway, there is a lot of promised quality software coming, thankfully getting the translating treatment from Japan, and much much more in the pipeline. I would say we (US) are half way into the DS generation, so there is plenty of goodies to come. :)

NBA Jam? Seriously?

Ouendan alone puts the DS above 50% of all consoles ever released for me. Not sure if it's passed the SNES yet, but a good 2D Metroid might get it there.

Dude NBA Jam was a great game. Easily my favorite sports game ever. I still play it to this day.

Plus it's also one of the weaker games on that list. Of course I then remembered.

Castlevania 4
Demon Crest
Super Mario Allstars
Donkey Kong COuntry
Star Fox
Earthbound
Ogre Battle
Tactic Ogre
Super Punch Out
Kirby SuperStar

Plus through out the list I didn't even mention the Japanese only games like FF5, SD3, Bahamut's Lagoon, Super Kunio Kun, Star Ocean, Tales of Phantasia.

DS is a good system (Probably my third favorite after snes and PS1 and could easily beat the PS1 at the end) but in my eyes to reach the snes its has a long long way to go.

Forgot about Ouendan 1 and 2. Those were some great games. Didn't like EBA that much though, kinda hard to get into the game when I hated most of the songs. Still not sure if they could break my top 25 though.

The DS has only lost software market share because of the Wii.

The total marketshare for Wii+DS has remained remarkably intact, and even more amazing, the total pie being divided up just keeps getting bigger and bigger.

It has three already (Metroid Fusion, Metroid Zero Mission, and Classic NES Metroid). Don't forget the GBA slot that so many treat with such disdain. :lol We just need a Super Metroid DS. No changes to the core game, but keep the map on the top screen. Perfect.

The GBA slot is why the DS+GBA > SNES. :D

Y'all are crazy if you think that the DS library is even close to as good as the SNES library. And including the GBA slot is dumb, donny, if it were really such a great library it wouldn't have to rely on backwards compatibility to make that claim. The PS2 certainly didn't.

You know what I meant. A new, high(ish) budget 2D Metroid. I love Zero Mission particularly, but had already completed all GBA games I wanted to before the DS, and now prefer to play them on an SP+ or a Micro, the DS Lite changes the colours slightly and has the cart sticking out.

But yes, list warz achieve nothing. Different times, differrent purposes.

Heck, if we can count the GBA library, then as far as I'm concerned, the DS currently stands behind only the unbeatable PS2.

3. PS3 software sales were almost zero in May 2007. It can't get worse in 2008, can it?
Thats the type of records that PS3 can beat! Let's see:

05/22 Haze
05/29 Battle Fantasia
05/29 Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2
05/29 Turok

Battle Fantasia is the same day as X360 version but Vegas 2 is 4/24 on 360 and Turok is 4/10 on it (so they will likely sell less than if they were day-and-date). Btw, is Haze really coming out?

I liked how most western games are coming a few weeks later than the X360 versions (Vegas 2, Turok, Strangehold, The Darkness, Kane & Lynch, Dark Sector...). Certainly interesting :lol

Now that I looked at the release lists...June is already a little heavy...
Code:
06/05 PS3 Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit
06/05 360 Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit
06/05 360 Ninja Gaiden II
06/05 WII Fushigi no Dungeon - Furai no Shiren 3: Karakuri Yashiki no Nemuri Hime

06/12 PS3 Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

06/19 PSP Super Robot Taisen A Portable
06/19 PS2 Harukanaru Toki no Naka de 4
06/19 WII Harukanaru Toki no Naka de 4

06/26 WII Tales of Symphonia: Knight of Ratatosk
06/26 NDS Bleach: The 3rd Phantom
06/26 NDS Higurashi no Nakukoru ni Kizuna: Dai-Ichi-Kan - Tatari
06/26 NDS Makai Senki Disgaea: Makai no Ouji to Akai Tsuki
06/26 PS2 Sengoku Basara X
06/26 360 Gundam Operation Troy
There are a lot of not-as-well-known titles too (mostly for DS, which has a fuckload of titles every week to be honest).

So where does PSP fit when including the PS1 library? :p

And while doing this, why stop at official compatibility? IIRC DS, like PSP and PS2 has a functional SNES emulator so they all have the best library included. ;)

And the PS2 doesn't have the better library even with the PSX, for me. :p While it's generally accepted that the PS2 has the oh-my-goodness-greatest-library-evar, individual tastes do vary. ;)

Including the GBA slot is not dumb because it's there. If we want to limit the discussion to natively-designed games and not all games that can legally be played on a system, that's fine. In that case, I've had more fun with the DS library, but I enjoyed the SNES more. Probably has a lot to do with my ages while playing the different systems, though. :p

N64 Fushigi no Dungeon: Fuurai no Shiren 2 - Oni Shuurai Shiren Shiro! - 283.991
Basically, 2nd best seller from a 3rd party ever on N64, second and the latest entry in the series.

NDS Mysterious Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer 195.052
Port/remake of the first entry which appeared on SNES.

Are we putting up excuses already?
To be fair... Nintendo published Shiren 2 and there were two other Shirens between it and the DS Shiren 1 remake (GB2 on GBC and Gaiden on DC) that each sold under 100k iirc.

That said, I expect Shiren 3 to probably do somewhere between 150-250k total.

Getting a DS port of a game I played years ago after 4+ years of waiting for a new 2D Metroid would be a huuuge disappointment. :(

Frankly, I would not say it's unexcepted but the way the PSP takes Japan by storm thanks to the release of a single game is something absolutely uncommon. DS dwarfened.
The PSP has been outselling the DS for awhile now, though, so it's not entirely unexpected (Amazon's also not the greatest source but I think it's probably accurate for the time being).

Any numbers arrived yet?

And here are the numbers from the other thread:

ETC - 0.2% (1.3%)

Key Points

- Nintendo Long Sellers: Some Nintendo games in the top 30 for 2008 are from as far back as 2005 (MKDS and ACWW), and quite a few are from 2006 (Wii Sports, Wii Play, NSMB).

- Monster Hunter PSP: Monster Hunter is quite a hit on the PSP, and 2nd G's opening week of 823,265 outdid the original version's opening week of 746,313.

- Wii Ware To Establish New Distribution?: Wii Ware, launched on March 25 with a few titles, can become a big factor in the game market industry and may increase as time goes by. The PS3 and 360 also have their download services that can contribute to this download market.

Monster Hunters 2G 1st shipment was too small. So it isn´t that surprising that it´s still effecting the PSP alot. We should expect another 500k-600k for last weeks/todays numbers. And if KH won´t come out this year for PSP the NDS will be once again the best selling system with ease.

I agree that DSs Lineup is strong but you have to consider that most fans of most upcoming games like e.g. Gyakuten or Layton are already on boat and won´t generate as much of a hardware bump like a KH or maybe even Dissidia could on PSP. Yeah, you could even say that the NDS has a big handicap for being the undoubtful nr.1 system since 2005 in Japan.
