It is very reasonable to think that the Wii will overtake the PS2 sales. Given past history, new games coming out, and price cuts.

And what is now pretty much guaranteed to be a longer generation than the previous one.

The PSP has had a renaissance from mid-2009 and into 2010.

What qualifies as a "renaissance" here, exactly? Because the PSP has been underperforming saleswise recentl.

The usually pretty reliable MC leak has PS3 closer to 42K and Wii closer to 11K.

Oh man oh man oh man

We were so close to being able to use the guy failing to polevault over 10k gif for the Wii

Next May when Wii's biggest release since November will have been Span Smasher and Wii Play Mario Superstar Baseball I bet we'll be able to use it.

I'm thinking a Spring release for Super Mario Galaxy 2. Metroid: Other M seems destined for August, and SMG2 should be out within about a year from this E3 according to Nintendo's policy of only showing games released in the next year. That just leaves Spring/early Summer for SMG2.

You really think New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Wii Fit Plus will have stopped selling by then?

The thing is tho neither super mario galaxy 2 or a new metroid will do much for the wii's sales in japan. Metriod just isn't isn't very popular in the land of the rising sun and after mario galaxy 1 and super mario brothers wii have come out 99%+ of the mario fans will already have brought a wii for those games so their won't be much of a hardware bump from smg2.

I'm just going by Sony's numbers for the big three regions. We can actually figure out what they've sold there. The remainder is like one huge guess.
Ah ok, i see. I saw a Kotaku article from August 2009 where is says that 138 million PS2 consoles are sold. I think that this number is sold to retailer and not to customers though, but i dont know how many unsold PS2s there are this late into the PS2 lifecycle, but i dont think that there are a lot of unsold million PS2s that the retailers have bought though, but who knows :) I wouldnt be surprised if at least 130 million out of these 138 million PS2 consoles are sold to the consumers though, but that is just a guess from my side.

But ye, the Wii might have a chance to outsell the PS2 worldwide, i agree to that :)

The question was about what "big" games will have been released since December as of May 2010. As for sales, there's also the idea of critical mass, when enough games or general buzz is on about a system to propel sales, but I agree that SMG2, in and of itself, shouldn't bring in just a ton of new owners.

It was somewhat of a joke.

300k at least for ToV, could we even see 400k LT?
Without a Best release? It would have to have by far the best legs of any console Tales this decade. Most gain 40-60% from their fist week. To reach 400K would take about 80%.

Tales games in Japan are pretty much traditionally released in November/December.
Ehh, I don't think there's that strong of a correlation. August seems as big a Tales month as December.

GBA Narikiri Dungeon 2: October
PS2 Destiny 2: November
GBA Summoner's Lineage: March
GCN Symphonia: August
PS2 Rebirth: December
GBA Narikiri Dungeon 3: January
PS2 Legendia: August
PS2 Abyss: December
DS Tempest: October
PS2 Destiny R: November
PSP Radiant Mythology: December
Wii Dawn of the New World: June
X360 Vesperia: August
DS Hearts: December
PSP Radiant Mythology 2: January
PSP Versus: August

you can also replace it with all of those people who in 2007/2008 thought Wii is going to overtake PS2 in sales.
Uhh, you mean the period of time when it actually was ahead?

I was talking about major Tales releases by the core team (Wolfteam/Tales Studio, yes, should have specified so but I didn't want to write even more essays), not side stuff, ports or "main" games by other developers (but including significant remakes).

SFC Phantasia: December 1995
PS1 Destiny: December 1997
PS1 Phantasia: December 1998
PS1 Eternia: November 2000
PS2 Destiny 2: November 2002
GC Symphonia: August 2003*
PS2 Rebirth: December 2004
PS2 Abyss: December 2005*
PS2 Destiny: December 2006
XB360 Vesperia: August 2008*
NDS Hearts: December 2008
WII Graces: December 2009

The only odd ones here are the so called "Team Symphonia" games (marked with an asterisk) which so far had a development cycle of 2 1/2 instead the year-aligned schedule of the veterans.
