I feel like LBX Wars is the breaking point on that IP. LBX W was a flop compared to the first game. Wars is a reboot with
new characters and a switch from action RPG gameplay to SRPG.
They haven't really specified, but not confirming it makes most people think they will be sold separately.

No, they've been confirmed for separate releases on Vita in Japan. Square Enix has stated that development is further along on those builds. If Sony's smart they'll launch them as timed exclusives for Vita.

Similarly, Ragnarok Oddsey Ace's PS3 version is MIA so I doubt it'll damage the Vita's versions selling power, not that I expect it to do that well. It's not like Vita is facing a shortage of co-operative action games anymore and the word of mouth on the original release wasn't spectacular.

I think they'll do decent off of it but they are probably going to have to make moves to keep people playing after launch.

And that won't be an easy endeavour, especially outside of Japan. I want to say I feel sorry but I really don't.

FFX is a very beloved title in Japan and the remake would not only set the Vita as a serious competitor to the 3DS but also help out Square financially.

Yeah, I don't think that will happen.

Could LBX Wars be ported over to the vita in the future? Especially if sales aren't up to snuff?

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.

It's really ugly too. Such an odd shift if it's permanent, since this will also drop the multi-player appeal.

LBX is a kid's franchise so a PSP port (wat) makes more sense than Vita. With the absurdly poor handling of this franchise it's impossible to say anything definitive.

LBX is one of the best example of mishandling a successful new IP. It's rather impressive how quick they ran that into the ground, despite knowing what happened with their previous stuff.

Let's see how bad they can fuck up Youkai Watch now.

I completely failed to notice the prediction for Jojo was for a month of sales, edited my predictions. I still think it might be overshooting it but we'll see.

If it really sells over 500k it'll be the most successful fighting game in a long time.

Well we first heard of a 300k shipment then recently a 500k one, so you're cleeeearly underestimating its sales :p

Or it might be biggest non Wii U non Level 5 shipment disaster this year ;)
Which is more likely ? I looked for JoJo games on PSP/PS3 but couldn't find any prequel. I am totally in the dark regarding this game's possible appeal.
But anyway, if they raised initial shipment from 300k to 500k, there must be a reason. I edit my post.

edit: why do people give JoJo so much credit ?

It's a really popular manga in Japan which has been running for over 20 years, and there are tons of adult fans who grew up with it who are generally the sort to buy expensive console games. There hasn't been a serious game adaptation for a long time, and this one is a fully featured one which is specifically targeted at core fans with high production values and covers the entire series up until the current stuff. It's kinda like the Hokuto Musou situation.

I was only joking - most ps3 games don't have trouble reaching at least 50% sell through on week 1.

JoJo is pretty big in Japan with both guys and girls and it recently had an anime to spark some interest. The pre orders must've been pretty good for it to get such a big shipment.

FF is still a powerful brand and a system seller.

Its not powerful enough to bring the Vita to 3DS and turn everything around for SE.

Yeah this, the sales for the anime were pretty good too (around ~20k)

Goddamn you said this in multiple threads as well :O

"Set the Vita as a serious competitor to the 3DS"? Whoa goddamn.

You forgot that Vita is #2 in JP and has been up in YOY every month! This will seriously make 3DS run for its money and will make Vita the very best like Ash Ketchum.

This is also crazy - ever since anime started it is charting each week.

And that's with Vita remake few weeks from now.

I think the Vita overall will be a success in Japan but yeah I agree that it's not a threat for the 3DS.

I think by the end of this handheld generation we will be looking at 8-9m LTD for the Vita and 25-26m LTD for the 3DS.

Sony weighed in on whether they will make another handheld.

I made a separate thread here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=659393

I'm going to guess it will be an Android device with physical buttons.

CVG said:
CVG: With regards to PS Vita, it has struggled to match the kind of sales Sony achieved with PSP. And considering the decline of the handheld market in general, I wonder if you think Vita will be Sony's final handheld? In the long-term, is this a business you feel you can still pursue?

Yoshida: Yeah I think we can still pursue it, and I don't think we have to make that decision now. Also, the distinction between the portables and mobile is [blurring], because there are all kinds of hybrids, different form factors and operating systems can still be conceived, in terms of how we characterise portable and mobile. We still like PS Vita and we know people who buy it really like it.

That seems rather high for Vita.

If this handheld generation lasts until, let's say, 2018, it will need to sell around 5.5,6.5 millions units in 5 years.

Knowing that Vita sold 0.7M units in 2012 and is currently selling around 1.5 better this year (so a bit more than 1M on a yearly basis)
And admitting the console has support, it should reach its peak yearly sales in 2015-2016, so splitting the big number in five

1M (2014) - 1.5 (2015) - 1.6 (2016) - 1.2 (2017) - 0.9 (2018)

On a weekly basis

20k (2014) - 30k (2015) - 32k (2016) - 24k (2017) - 18k (2018)

It doesn't seem completely unreachable and it's not a full blown recovery either, but it's still way too soon to assume something like this will happen with the console and remains a "best case" scenario, not entirely impossible but still not in track to reach that objective

Numbers outta my arse, feel free to ignore them

That seems rather high for both, but especially Vita, yes. I think if Vita gets close to that -- even if only in Japan -- it would be the biggest turn around of a videogame console in history. I can't honestly think of another one. I guess the WiiU could count if it turned its fortunes around to such a level as well.
