It's great seeing Family Fishing doing so well. Go fishing, family!

Go Vacation! seems to be the kind of game that could easily do a million with the proper audience awareness. However, I doubt Namco Bandai will be aiming that high and may even undership, sadly.

Naaah, Go Vacation should do similar numbers to the other Family ______ titles.

P.S. Why elektroplankton is banned now? What happene? O_O

Well the Flare Red gave the 3DS a 20k+ boost so your prediction isn't really crazy.

I still think it's a bit of a missed opportunity to release a pink colored 3DS without any "girls focused" software along with it. Fab Style, Style Savvy and Girls RPG are all 2012 releases :/
I have to agree there. They really should have held off.

I have high hopes for Ice White, however. I'm expecting 100k that week, if not more.

I'm thinking the bump That week may have more to do with a plumber than the white 3ds, oh and as for the pink one its sold out on amazon make of that what you want?

Oh god lol, I remember those. Think I was lurking back then. Who did that? Cheesemeister? Or was it Josh. It was hilarious either way, especially when a console had a good week at the same time another console had a bad week. The stats would be so ridiculous.
That was me. The whole kaboodle became a bit much to keep up with all the time, but the tools are still around to get them. Well, sort of. Looks like the generic one is busted for some reason, but the earlier static ones like DS vs PSP are still going.

Zoom!
Wii

Kinda doubt we see three competitors anywhere near as close again.

The combination of SM3DL and Ice White should cause a huge boost. I'll be shocked if it's under 100k.

Yeah, we just got red, now white and a couple bundles. The pink should have coincided with Style Savy, etc... Maybe they figure this holiday is so much more important and worth the missed opportunity, what with panic mode and all.

Same for me.
This week, if shipments are enough, 3DS can do 100+k.

With how many games they have coming... I can't even think of a scenario where 3DS will not sell like hotcakes in Japan this holiday. The weekly average from the beginning of November to the last week of the year will likely be around 150-200k. *waits to be called insane* They really shouldn't be in "panic mode" at this point. They're pretty much set for the next nine months.

So you expect 1.35 - 1.8 millions in 2 months in Japan?

Seems doable, the DS did those number two years in a row (and I think they did higher numbers one year, like 2 million); I don't think that's crazy talk. I would call crazy anyone who says it will be much higher.

Woa! thanks for bringing the numbers; the discussion is much clearer now.

I expect DS 2007 numbers, but I wouldn't be surprised if it performed like the DS in 2006. Higher than that seems impossible IMO.

With the line up its got matching 2006 should be very possible and 2005 isn't out of the realms of possibility

Yep, with a pricetag of 15k and that good lineup, i'd be actually more surprised if the 3DS doesnt do around 150k - 200k in December in average. The only thing i can see that will affect the 3DS sales is if someone is holding off to buy a Vita instead.

Back then, it was just Dragona/Amir0x who were Sales-Age mods? Can't recall any others. Don't think duckroll was a mod, yet, but not sure.

Now it's charlequin, Stumpokapow, and duckroll as Sales-Age mods in MC threads. Could be fun. :)

150-200k average is a very big range for a 9 weeks period. Low and high end have a difference of almost half million.

The difference is that this time, things will go around most like they did since DS launch. It won't be surprising any more. People should have already accepted the truth...

It doesn't match those years in terms of social phenomenon. At all. Japan in 2005-2006 was very special for Nintendo. Everyone knew their own brain age, or wanted to.

I sold my DS Phat, 14 months old, back to a store for more than I had paid for it on launch day. Stores were importing DS Phats from the USA. I guess similar to the Wii launch in the US. And that level of national hype is not there for 3DS right now.

This year is potentially great for Nintendo fans and MH fans, and there are lots of them, but it's nowhere close the huge groundswell of support the DS was enjoying from Brain Age through to DS Lite.

Then again maybe MH3G is enough... I guess there is only so much capacity for production, and the 2006 thing was weird for the 'off months' than for the holidays.

I REVISE MY SCEPTICISM.

Wow. The world turned upside down!
Not really. Well at least with 3DS, and PSP has been doing well for a while now. At least well enough to chart games in the top 20, most of them aren't really high figures.

Can't wait for next year this time. 3DS and Vita with 18 spots and PS3/Wii U with 1 each haha.

As anticipated, people seem to be buying an assortment of various 3DS titles with their new hardware. With several other big titles likely trailing the top 50, and a strong used market competing with the highly-priced new software, it's unlikely that many people are buying their new system with no 3DS retail software.

What's <ETC>? I don't really see all that much that those games have in common (except maybe mass-market appeal, but I'm assuming the <> bits are genre, and mass-market appeal isn't a genre!)

Similarly <HOB> (Wii Fit)?

It seems to be genre,

ACT = action
RCE = racing
RPG = rpg
Etc. = etcetera
hob = Hobo

Not surprised.

I have to admit, asynchronous multiplayer for Hot Shots is going to be sexy AND convenient.

Seeing Dynasty Warriors not in top3 IS surprising, IMHO.

The #20 spot on the top 20 happens to be a 3DS game. Lets say that 20-40 all sold the same amount, ~7.2K, and that all previous 3DS owners bought no new titles this past week. With 5 entries on the top 40, that would still put the 3DS software sales at 36K. A 20K gap from hardware sales.

If the used market is THAT strong, it's a real deadly problem for the 3DS

Sales outside the top 40 are minuscule enough to not warrant to think that they would fill that 20K gap, even with the impossible 'best-case' scenario I just painted.

I think in last weeks thread there was a short discussion about possible Musou overload impacting Vita edition sales. It will do alright, but probably won't light the world on fire.

Epic Yarn sure had nice legs, I remember someone saying it was a bomb when it was released.

So will Kirby Adventure Wii sell better than Zelda this holidays season? While zelda has been given more attention, non spin-off Kirby usually sell really well in Japan don't they?

Zelda will probably beat it this year, but I reckon that Kirby will edge out Skyward Sword when all is said and done (Kirby's legs tend to be much stronger than Zelda's)

This might be a bit of a random question for this thread, but there seem to be lots of 3DS experts in here. Is there a technical reason why the 3DS VC has been limited to VC portable games? GB, GBC and GBA all had solid libraries, but it seems like the 3DS shouldn't have issues with pulling off NES, SNES and Genesis games at least. Is there any talk of them adding these games in for VC?

In general I'm not a big retro guy for home systems (new multiplayer games already take all of my time there) but I like retro gaming on the bus ride. I'd buy the crap out of a 3DS no matter what the upcoming games are if it had access to all the 16-bit VC games.

People are buying the system in anticipation of the impending onslaught. It's a sign of strength for the 3DS, not the other way around.

No technical reason but I don't think Nintendo wants to mix handhelds with home console releases.

Man, that's a shame. A portable unit with access to the full DS library as well as the best of the SNES / Genesis era would be a total dream for me. I guess some NES titles are getting rolled out as 3D classics, so maybe some of the 16-bit stuff will eventually come to it in that form.

Err, there ARE NES VC games. The service hasn't been launched officially yet, but early adopters have been given 10 NES VC games in advance of the service's launch (scheduled to happen some time within the next 2 months) I have 10 NES VC games on my 3DS right now!

TG16 and Game Gear games are also due to arrive at some point as well.

They've already announced that NES games will be there, in fact I (and possibly most of 3DS owners out there) are already playing them :)
3DS ambassadors already received 10 NES games as a thank you for the support (lol), they're in "beta" form now and will be switched with the final versions once Nintendo releases them properly on the eShop.

You can rest assured Genesis/Megadrive games will get there too by the same reason TG16 games will (Sega Nomad: Megadrive = PC-Engine GT: TG16)

Is it likely they'll expect people to pay for the same roms again that they already bought on Wii?
