...Yeah, Dead Island on PS3 is our winner for this week, if you don't count the two Macross SKUs as a single one.
But there's no 3DS software in top20.
I mean, I expected to see some rises...we'll now I'm VERY curious about what 3DS did this week, with the pink

If by life time, are you counting re-releases on another platform or something? I doubt this will break 1 million.

The only PSP games that have broken 1 million are Monster Hunter games.

After that, Dissidia broke 900k and Crisis Core broke 800k. It's possible Type-0 can do better, but I wouldn't say there's a good chance.

Depends if you count budget releases or not. Though checking up on it, Dissidia is the only one that would have crossed a million, and even then it reached it just barely.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.

I think 3DS could have four straight weeks (or maybe 3/4) > 400K, which would top DS, but it won't have a 1m week.

Dec 5-11, 2011 - MH3G's release + bundle
Dec 12-18, 2011 - Probably down from previous, but not by a lot considering New Year's runup. See MHP3/PSP sales in Dec-2010. (this could be a < 400K week)
Dec 19-25, 2011 - Biggest week of year, usually
Dec 26, 2011-Jan 1, 2012 - Historically down from previous week a bit

DS probably would've had three straight > 400K weeks if it weren't for shortages the week of BT2's release.
Yes this seems like the most reasonable outcome.

I have a differenct opinion on how casual titles affect sales compared to targeted auduence games. I feel like casual title affect hardware sales over time, while hardcore games affect hardware sales upon release. So I feel like it doesn't matter how many titles your have, it all depends on their system seller status upon release. MK, Super Mario, and MH3G all have that huge system seller status while also known as leggy casual titles.

What will the best selling 3rd party handheld title will be this holiday?

Type-0 or Tri G?

Are we just talking about the holiday period, or from release of both till end of December? Or are we talking aligning Type-0 week 1 with MH week 1 and comparing from there?

I guess up to the 2nd week of January or so when the holiday ends. LTD probably would go to Tri G.

I no longer have any confidence in Type-0 even selling a million copies. I feel that while the lower limit of sales for popular PSP titles has been going up, the upper limit of sales for very popular PSP titles have been going down.

LTD will no doubt be MH3G, now for holiday sales I think MH3G has a chance of surpassing Type-0 sales.

How are you gonna count download sales for Type-0?
I don't think I've ever seen PSN sales publicised.

Add five.

Ouch.

But I have to imagine there will be those who want to buy the game on PSN to ensure playability on Vita.

IIRC the only PSN sales data we got was from Persona 3 Portable, which did 10k on PSN in its first week compared to 90k on UMD.

I think charlequin's point is we have no way of knowing exactly how many unless that number is released so it's pointless to speculate.

It would've been nice if Sony had allowed user ratings on PSP's PlayStation Store. That way we can have a baseline for minimum sales. As it stands, rating PSP software is restricted to PC, and PS3, where I doubt many are buying PSP games on.

Its true tho, if digital sales were relevant on that platform, we would have numbers I guess.

Sony doesn't allow publishers to say how much their PSN releases (be it original games, or UMD, PS, etc. dumps) sell.

Any specific reason for the lack of confidence? (as in specific to Type-0) Or just a general feeling about PSP software sales?

Can the 3DS really have a million seller at this point in its life? I honestly doubt it...
I don't think it's gonna sell a million over the holiday period, but it may hit it in lifetime sales. There are too many factors going against it this holiday - top hitting first party titles, not enough install base, price, Vita coming to market, etc.

I think it's going to have three titles rather close to a million if not a little over by the end of the year. It definitely is possible right now (as shown with Smash Brothers Melee), and with over 3.5mil by the end of the year it will increase the likelihood quite a bit.

You're talking about MH? There's no question it will be a multi million seller after a few month... The only first party game going against it is Mario Kart and I doubt they're targeting the same audience.

I don't see why the Vita releasing would hurt the game sales at all...

Mario Land 3D and Mario Kart 7 are both gonna be big hitters which will cannibalise sales of any other games, period. They are cheaper and they are gonna be marketed the hell out of.

Because people want to buy one, so they have less time & money to spend on other games? If Vita wasn't coming out this year, I'd certainly be buying more 3DS games over the holiday period. I'm only one guy though...

MH3G is going to be blitzed like crazy. I see it as their equal easily, both in sales and in visibility.

Vita's going to be supply constrained, it's impact on anything is going to be limited by default. If anything, I'd think MH3G would have a more negative impact on Vita sales than the reverse though, why bother with a PS handheld without Monhun?

It can if said game is selling the system, userbase will be meaningless after the intial sales are done.

As shown with PSP, Monster Hunter can sell 1:1 with the system. I doubt Mario Kart or 3DSLand will have as strong system-selling potential in their first month as MH3G will. They may sell more systems in the long-run, but they're not the huge Day 1, "have to buy the game now" type of game that Monster Hunter has turned into, relatively speaking. :)

I'm thinking Inazuma Eleven Go is going to be hit hard. It launches into the lion's den of MH and Mario. At Level-5 World it also didn't appear to be incredibly popular (It reportedly had short wait times). It's also the first Inazuma game to feature the new cast, but is still the 4th mainline Inazuma game in as many years. The third entry showed decline (outside of counting The Ogre release), and I don't believe Go will change that.

That will certainly put all predictions to shame..

If I was a PSP owner looking to buy a Vita I would buy the PSN version of Type 0. I'm sure some people will be doing that.

Let's make a compromise and add 75% on PSP Go's LTD to the Type-0 LTD. :p
This shit again?
People have been buying PSP games on PSN since way before the PSP Go came out (GT Portable being a great example), and this time the existence of the Vita will further bolster PSN sales. The PSP Go was a failure, but it is not the beginning and the end of PSN sales.

Comgnet is really useless, just wait until this weeks sales come out... FF XIII-2 is going to sell less than MH3 first week if it doesn't reach 404 in a week, lol...

In Japan retail is the King. Isn't it?

Retail isn't king. It's run by a bunch of pimp hands who have ridiculous contracts with platform holders to make sure digital distribution is held back by a couple of decades. It's not the consumer that's holding back.

Kandinsky said:
Whats with the low Type-0 predictions, I think it has a fair chance of breaking one million in Japan :/

Expectations are "low" because no PSP game other than the Monster Hunter series has managed to break 1 million in Japan.

There is absolutely zero chance of this happening, but it doesn't have to sell a million to be a success.

Tri G of course and it won't even be close. In fact, Tri G will be the biggest selling game of the holiday, period (sorry Mario Kart 7)

the inazuma games remind me of the mega man battle network games: rpgish things that i don't want to understand that are popular for some reason, trailed off at the end of life of the handheld they originated on, and couldn't make it on the succeeding handheld.

Whatever the cause, Type-0, or other games on other platform whether Nintendo or Sony, won't be selling much DD at all.

Not so sure. Everyone is underestimating MK...
