Media Create Sales: Week 41, 2017 (Oct 09 - Oct 15)

Do folks think Splatoon 2 will outsell DQ11 3DS by the end of the year?

[WIU] Splatoon December 2015:

[WIU] Splatoon # <ACT> (Nintendo) {2015.05.28} (¥6.156) - 35.256 / 861.197 (+48%)
[WIU] Splatoon # <ACT> (Nintendo) {2015.05.28} (¥6.156) - 51.138 / 912.335 (+45%)
[WIU] Splatoon # <ACT> (Nintendo) {2015.05.28} (¥6.156) - 86.332 / 998.667 (+69%)
[WIU] Splatoon # <ACT> (Nintendo) {2015.05.28} (¥6.156) - 94.874 / 1.093.541 (+10%)
[WIU] Splatoon # <ACT> (Nintendo) {2015.05.28} (¥6.156) - 60.447 / 1.153.989 (-36%)

Total: 328.047

Now with the Switch selling potentially 3-4 times what the Wii U sold in December 2015, I think you can expect Splatoon 2 to easily triple 330K in December alone. It won't overtake DQXI combined sales but it will easily finish as the top title of the year.

I've also mostly lurked, not least because I generally do so from mobile, but Wednesday will be a lot less interesting without this thread. Would love an invite or if there a subreddit.

I'm building a program which automates the gathering of Japanese sales data and have most of it prepared for the Media Create side.

The things I am missing are –

1. The LTD numbers – what's the source on these?

2. The romajified names of games. Where do these come from?

Additionally, correct me if I am wrong but I figure that the % increase/decreases come from the previous week's data.

Famitsu is next. Anybody know the source that Chris uses for this?

There seems to be an English section on the official Media Create website.

I have no idea if Chris and/or others take (or used to take) the name from there though.

1. Source of LTD numbers are Media Create and Famitsu. They're the total of weekly sales from start till present.

2. I guessing that they're either translated by Chris1964 himself, or taken from other gaming website (Gematsu, GameFAQs etc).

Yes, the % of increase/decrease is the difference between last week's and this week's numbers.

Famitsu weekly sales data is from Famitsu.com. They also publish monthly and digital sales data.

I think he picked up the translations from GameFaqs IIRC.

Sorry, I should clarify –

1. Where is the LTD number extracted from? Media-Create does not provide LTD on their website, so I assume another service provides it. It is not possible for us to calculate this for all titles without guesswork.

I know in the past Salesage members have bought the media create whitebook which has the yearly Top 1000, amongst other data and costs about 45,000 yen. It releases end january/begin februari I think.

Famitsu does have LTD numbers (as does Dengeki). Didn't realize that MC didn't. You'd have to ask Chris, but I presume he's calculating them programmatically from previous weeks' data. He at least must do that for the percentage drop. You can try using last week's MC LTDs as a starting point

I don't mind posting the Dengeki numbers here still.

Thanks.

I was able to extract everything from Famitsu but still missing the LTDs and % for Media-Create. Those may have to be calculated manually to begin with.

Same applies for the romaji names – I tried using the Amazon Product Search API to extract the names using the JP locale, which turned out to be not possible. I also looked into GameFAQs which seems okay for manual data input, but not for automation. I'll keep looking into solutions, but your suggestions are most appreciated.

Now to generate the Chris-style formatting. Might be able to bring back the Cheesemeister-style package shots, too.

It might come a little late, but if people would like the Chris-style thread, I don't mind posting it once I have the output correct. We might need to manually translate game titles, though.

If you like the Chris style formatting, I can leave the new thread to you, no problem.

Mine was simpler but I'm very open to accept a better alternative to mine, if possible.

I want to help GAF but I also want a good thread for everyone. Can you PM me?

I honestly have a mapping table between the Japanese and English titles that I'd add to for new titles that I add to each week. Was still looking to optimize that process at some point, but that's a starting point. Honestly people here would probably be happy even with just Famitsu data to start.

missing the media create threads already.
this sucks.
Its been like 10 minutes. This is not the first time that threads have been delayed either by the way. If others that usually dont make them have to do it, it can take a bit more time. This have happened before.

Hehe, fair enough :) I would guess that the guy saying he was going to make the thread is around the usual time to make it at least, so it wont be many, many hours delayed at least.

Ehh it'll grow. How did the first NBA 2k do for PS4?

39./00. [PS4] NBA 2K14 <SPT> (Take-Two Interactive Japan) {2014.02.22} (¥6.090)

This is how much it sold the first year:

374. [PS4] NBA 2K14 <SPT> (Take-Two Interactive Japan) {2014.02.22} (¥6.090) - 13.065 / 13.065 (2.589 <33,54%>)

I guess that the last number there is the first week number?

Yep, if any ex-Sales Gaffers are lurking and feel kind enough to throw out a life boat, it would be much appreciated! I think it's all some of us are waiting on now.

I thought that GT was a system seller in Japan... WTH happened...
Lots of SCE (actually PS1/PS2) once strong IPs are in severe decline for some quite time.
Minna no Golf is another example.

Sony's only shining spot in the last few years was publishing Minecraft for Sony consoles.

Would it be OK if I made a temporary MC thread and copy paste Gematsu stuff? Then, one with the data, formatting and everything makes the real thread?
