that's not true, honestly.
even if there are hints that point to a PS4 release.

It's kinda true:

“Dragon Quest XI is being developed simultaneously alongside Dragon Quest Heroes, but we’d like you all to play this title first to bring out enlivened feelings before going to the next title.”

I hope it's for XBone just to see everyone hot 'n' bothered.

Interesting how it managed to lose almost all its yoy increase in a matter of months, despite a far better start and first half of the year.

you all know that it's going to be on iOS.

the more you deal with it the less you cry when it gets announced.

Well, if something it's clear today, is that it will not be on mobile, actually

Oh, I know what he said. it's just that he didn't say that will be on the same platforms. I believe that it will be, just to clarify (at least "also"), but imagine if DQXI is for 3DS: with DQH announced, should he say: "Hey people, wait for the real DQ, don't buy DQH", or it's better to say: "I hope DQH could entertain you while you wait for DQXI?"

Btw, I don't want to go deeper once again about DQXI (that, I repeat, I think it will be at least also on PS4).

@SmokyDave
I've always wondered, what did you do to get that tag?

Sorry for the off-topic post.

Edit: On topic, yeah, everything is terrible. With the possible exception of 3DS.

I hope DQH is able to sell at least 4m PS4 then.

I don't see why that would matter

IFFFFF they had decided to go ps4/ps3 with an eye on worldwide market then I am sure they would have been smart enough to know it has a high possibility of selling less than the previous versions. maybe horii wants to make a big and beautiful HD dragon quest for its anniversary as has been suggested here so I am sure if it bombs like you think it will then they will just go back to nintendo handhelds. Considering they have ffxv and kh3 scheduled for basically just ps4 in japan i am sure they are not as worried.

I wonder why Wii U dropped to 4k, I thought it was going to hold steady at 8k (back whenever that was) - I know it's not a recent thing but I've just noticed it compared to the PS4's 10k.

Probably holding out for the new bundle coming out tomorrow.

Is it a universal truism that Lego games sell better on Wii U than PS4/One worldwide? I seem to remember noticing that Wii U was higher than PS4/One (but lower than PS3/360, IIRC) in western charts for those titles, too.

As a percentage of owners, most likely. The gap between the PS4 and Wii U has opened up quite a bit since the last lego game though, so it is possible that SKU might sell more just off of the install base difference.

They probably want to release it on PS4 but are worried about it's sales so they're releasing DQ Heros as a test to see how well a DQ game will preform on PS4 before fully committing to it.

for a little perspective look at week 45 from a roughly similar point in the previous generation
a healthier market for sure, now try and imagine Xbone selling 17,000 in a week!

But that doesn't even make any sense. We're talking about a franchise where a remake of one the most popular games in the franchise did not get a western release despite their being precedent a jrpg's actually do well on the 3ds in the west.

The west is irrelevant for SE in regards to DQ, which leaves Horii purposesly choosing to lose several millions of sales for no real reason outside of multiplat. It really doesn't make sense unless there's a 3DS version of some sort. There's no benefit unless Sony pid for the whole development and SE want to save the PS4 in Japan at a significant loss in sales for whatever reason

Is this the week of the smash bundle because I thought the consensus was that 3DS sales were supressed in previous weeks due to people waiting for that bundle.

Honestly it's really impressive they've managed to sell nearly 100k PSPs in 2014.

Maybe that was your consensus and it isn't a bundle.

I hope DQH is able to sell at least 4m PS4 then.
It's sad that some people are so threatened by the thought of a game that they can't even play without buying a Japanese version of the device coming to a different platform.

Do you know their internal goals and plans? How much say does Hori have in these kind of decisions? Can you tell me if they're getting external funds? If it's on a consoles, how much do they expect it to sell with the higher price? Answers to any of information the public doesn't have access to will be gladly appreciated.
-----

DQXI platform discussions shouldn't even exist considering it's at least 2 years away and some people don't care what Hori says for some strange reason. He said there's no current plans for the game to be on smartphones yet people still think the game is going to be announced (as in, the official announcement of the game) for smartphones. He said he wants to play it on the big screen and made multiple comments related to that...but it doesn't matter to some people.

while I agree that jrpg's are doing well on 3ds i am sure their vision is much higher than like 500k max?. lets face it, if you want to make a big splash in the west in terms of word of mouth and media coverage it has to be on home consoles trying to be the next skyrim or dragon age or other popular rpg's in the west. they are most likely betting on the possibility that they will make up the lost sales in the western market. the best case scenario would be it keeps its huge sales in japan and get a lot of extra sales in the west and in turn making it a worldwide brand than something that is japan only at the moment. obviously I am making a lot of assumptions here to say why they might go ps4 for dq11 so lets see what actually happens. I agree 3ds is probably the safest option for them but you have to take chances every once in awhile.

Everything that is not on the 3DS selling LESS than 10k a week. (Edit: and just to be clear, I'm not even talking about HW, it's software)

Geez, this is sad.

PS3/PS4 makes the most sense and maybe even the Wii U, but even the 3DS seems to be out of the picture for now (for platform exclusivity, at least). It still speaks volumes that DQ Heroes is on PS3 and not on WIi U.

DQVIII and DQIX were released on the two most popular platforms ever in the West, and they still sold on average comparing to Japanese sales (around a million); the last one was also advertised by Nintendo, a plus that a Nintendo-less version would not have. If SQEX had an eye on Western markets when deciding where to put DQXI, then it wasn't that smart.

Pretty good 3DS numbers despite no big new releases last week, right?

Yeah, but there was the Smash N3DSLL (no game included, though).

Last year Famitsu tracked NSMBU and Wii Party U bundles in their software rankings.

Media Create just tracked hardware, no software.

I might be wrong, but to me, it seems like Media Create only takes into account bundled sales when the bundle includes a Limited Edition consoles (like MH4G), not when Nintendo/Sony just adds a bunch of games to make the package more appealing. Aka: when people are actively buying the bundle for the game (because they were interested in it).

well the market isn't the same as it was back then. games have longer life cycles with the digital marketplace and constant discounts and way more ways to promote games in the west means you have the potential to sell a lot more if the game is good and word of mouth is strong. obviously they should be on pc and xbone as well unless sony is footing the bill on co marketing and publishing in the west.

The PS4 just needs that one title man .... will it be before FFXV?

Thats a pretty good baseline for a product with so little software actually revolved around selling systems to that fanbase.

7-10k baseline. What happens when Bloodborne, DQ Heroes, Persona, Hot Shots, Metal Gear, Guilty Gear, Ys, Disgaea, etc. are on the library?

Never thought I'd see a fanbase so hardcore reject a product like those in Japan have rejected the Xbox One

DQ Heroes, Bloodborne, Persona and MGSV should be those titles next year.

Yes, PS2 and DS were more jRPG-friendly with respect to how much PS4 can be in a few years.

the pessimism runs strong. oh well, square are probably placing their bets on a jrpg resurgence with their three mainline offerings and if it doesn't work out everything will be on nintendo handhelds so you can be happy!!

besides lego city wii u, most lego games perform this badly right?

Lol, Lego City was the first Lego game to release in Japan. This is the second, so no there's no precedent to compare this to =).

Edit: Sorry I was very wrong about this. But it does seem like Japan gets a select set of Lego games, as opposed to just getting everything we get here.

Im really glad to see the PS4 doing 5 digit numbers, I hope it stays that way.

On the other hand, I wish the Wii U was doing better.

This is the week before the Wii U bundles, so it can only go up from here I'd presume.

Smash 3DS alone is challenging Brawl's numbers. Great to see the reception for the portable Smash entry.

Why did the ps4 go up?
Is its baseline 8-10k?

Sheesh Wii U, what's your excuse...(in general, not right now before the bundle)

the pessimism runs strong. oh well, square are probably placing their bets on a jrpg resurgence with their three mainline offerings and if it doesn't work out everything will be on nintendo handhelds so you can be happy!!

?

It's not pessimism. It's just trying to understand the market. PS2 was huge for the jRPG genre; KH sold close to 4m units in the US alone. FFX sold more than 7m units worlwide. The genre was healthy, and not only for top sellers. DS was also strong (Pokémon helped of course), and Nintendo advertising was a big plus. I don't see the same conditions repeating on PS4.
