Everyone knows very well what my opinion is on the
handheld Japanese market for Splatoon 2. Also I've already said a couple of times I expect the Switch to sell slightly better than 3DS in it's first year. I simply think 3DS had a title like Splatoon in it's first year it could have sold a lot more - regardless of the price. I also strongly believe the Switch is going to be a lot more comfortable long term for handheld gaming and that 3D wasn't really successful driver for 3DS sales.
The market has contracted since the 3DS release but we are talking about a huge upgrade in terms of pretty much everything. That's why I've said that Splatoon 2 provides something that is attractive from the getgo for the device and you have it topped of with things like Zelda, MK8D, Super Mario Odyssey, DQ, Minecraft in it's first year in Japan things are going to be very reminiscent of 2011 December. It's also a system that I believe will end up a lot more frontloaded similar to the Wii but more attractive because of the portability.
I'm the guy that said Nintendo could have sold
10 million Switches in Japan year one if it is priced at $200. Perhaps I will end up totally wrong about my predictions but I'm 100% sure it's going to be closer to what I'm saying than 2 million devices and 1.5 million Splatoon 2 copies. That would be a disaster first year in Japan compared to the 3DS and the caliber of game Splatoon 2 is potentially compared to any game that came out on the 3DS year one.
Also I think Switch version will sell the best out of 3DS/PS4 because I think it will be a holiday title and Switch is going to be the most gifted system this December.
In terms of Zelda I just think it has potential to be the most popular Zelda game in Japan in a long while.
