That's going to be your measure of acceptance for Quiet's attire? Re-tweets by her creator? It's not like he's going to re-tweet people criticizing how she was designed. And I think there'd be just as many (probably more) cosplaying as her even if she wore more clothes.

Whenever I play the pervy parts of Kojima's games, like the groping in Policenauts or the random stuff in MGS (I guess Snatcher had weird stuff too), I just try and picture Kojima telling somebody with a straight face to put that part in. Usually with his fingers clasped to his chin in that thoughtful atrist pose.
She's a pretty big part of the story. I just finished her arc.
The reason she's naked is silly and doesn't make a lot of sense (she can wear costumes and other characters like her wear clothes) the reason for her not speaking makes more sense and works relatively well.
She's also a good "buddy" but yeah, lots of weird provocative imagery and a lot of breast and ass shots. The most worrisome scene is pretty messed up, tho (spoilers for her final cut scene
she's seemingly raped by soviet soldiers, one tries to choke her/drown her while zipping his pants (necrophelia?) and then she stabs a bunch of dicks violently in retaliation.
The reason for her not speaking makes no sense whatsoever.

- is the only female character in the game.

- does lascivious poses in the chopper like any battle hardened.
Kojima was right though, I did feel ashamed. Ashamed that he'd think me so fucking dumb that I'd buy his shitty excuse to have some wank material instead of an actual character.
There's a great tragic arc underneath the surface but these peripheral matters are such a total distraction. It's not a sexually positive character, it's just an old lecher going out with a bang.

Shes not the only female character in the game. Only the story/cut-scenes related one, but far from the only character.
If that's his intent, he's severely mixing his messages when he actively designs the camera to creepily leer at her every time she shows up. That shit doesn't just happen by accident.

However with Stefanie's amount of promotion of the game (posing with squeezable boob Quiet toy, Let's Plays), I wouldn't be surprised if Quiet's amount of fan service was a joke of some sort with her and Kojima+game developers.

It's ridiculously over the top, but it also doesn't bother me. Having used her for the past 15 hours with her in the background of the ACC I'm pretty numb to it. And she's a great character besides the silly outfit.

I keep hearing this, but it doesn't change the fact that it's just Kojima attempting to justify a skimpy, sexualized character design.
Seriously, if think if you can't see the problems with Quiet, you're letting MGS fanboyism get the better of you, and that's even acknowleding all the crazy shit Kojima has put into the game.
Just because a decision is justified by the story doesn't mean it's free or undeserving of criticism--stop it with the "this is a non-issue" bullshit. If you don't care about it, fine, but outside of your perspective, you have to acknowledge that this is just perpetuating a casual kind of sexism in this industry.

Hahaha. There are people in here actually defending it. Specifically the reason why she can't wear clothes. Hahaha, you absolute man babies. I mean it really is just pointless gratuity. It's ok if you can't admit it and need to point out dumb things like 'she's a badass' or 'play the game and find out about her powers' or 'nuh uh there are female soldiers on the base'. It is a little bit sad though guys. Quiet is a life support system for boobs. She is a contrived plot device for boobs. I appreciate that they tried to give her an emotional character arc but honestly they completely ruined it by making her a straight up porn actress. They could have gone another way, made her cool and sexy and all that without making it laughable and embarrassing. But they didn't, and it absolutely hurt the character.

There isn't even a tragic arc. She's a nothing character who comes out of nowhere and has no motivations. She's an excuse to have a woman who isn't able to do much other than stand around almost naked and be looked at.
She's supposed to be this assassin, but she has a child-like view of the world where standing around naked has no sexual connotations. She's doesn't know how to write because reasons, and isn't nearly a complex character.

The thing that sticks out the most to me is the ripped pantyhose. When I saw it in the promo art, I was like "Why?". When I heard the reason for why she wears so few clothes I thought, "Then why wear some ripped pantyhose? She might as well just wear a bathing suit". Then when I saw in the game that she takes them off a couple of times I was completely baffled, "Why would she put those back on? They are ripped to shreds, how does she get them back on without ripping them even more?" Because sex sells.

I have yet to read any solid articulation of why Bayonetta "ownes her sexuality". it's easy to say "you don't get it" but apparently impossible to explain. extended slo mo crotch shots don't strike me as empowerment.

That's not it at all. Dismissing any criticism of the sort as "prudes" is just as dumb as dismissing anyone who likes any game with fanservice as a "horny teenager". It's true that there's nothing wrong with boobs and ass, but there's also nothing wrong with clothes either, this isn't pre-release discussion anymore, we have the facts, and many of us think her design and especially the scene direction/camera angles don't fit her character.
I love everything about Bayonetta, but I dislike Quiet's design.

It's nothing new with the series, and I'll honestly take it over the random pin-up posters (complete with silly kissing sounds) and other nonsense that were strewn all over the previous games. The justification for her outfit might be stupid and groan-inducing, but I'll take it over fanservice for the pure sake of it. Quiet's a decent character, and outside of Miller, amusingly the most developed.
Even the more "serious" entry, the original Metal Gear Solid, had Sniper Wolf running around in an almost unzipped jacket. In Alaska. Which is extra funny, in retrospect, because you can unlock
a Sniper Wolf costume for Quiet

No, that doesn't imply all women have a problem with her. Also the post you responded to wasn't specifically about only Quiet, but a response to general female sexualization in games. It was implying that it's very likely more women than men will feel negatively towards characters like Quiet (see: those put in skimpy outfits for no sensible reason).

Her lungs are destroyed because of the burning that happens at the start of the game. She breathes through the skin/parasites. Other characters like Code Talker and The End both have parasites for photosynthesis but also have functioning lungs and breathe through them, they are just augmented by the parasites while Quiet needs them to live.
Now, I'm not saying it justifies being nearly nude, especially when at the end of her story she is put in a jumpsuit by the Russians and still manages to fight and function with no issues despite the fact she should be suffocating.

She knows at times, like when she invites Big Boss to shower with her.
She doesn't know at others, like when it starts raining and she decides to roll around and fondle her breasts, but gets embarrassed when Snake sees her. Or maybe she is aware, and is just an even more terrible character.
- I disagree, her story is really a case of "show more, tell less" and in this instance you really see her character development through her actions than words. Unfortunately, it still doesn't change the fact the sexual pandering is pretty stupid still.
- Although DD and Quiet equally tag as much enemies, only one of them can wipe them out faster.

I'm not sure why the last bit qualifies her more but all the same I'm not suggesting all women are okay with Quiet's. I'm telling you is women can and do have different opinions on Quiet and some of those opinions are "It's not really enough to complain about" and what if that was the case? Nothing more.
Also I'm not sure I agree with the part of the article I read, I saw more shots of Quiet's ass than her breasts in the example provided. Can't comment on the other parts because I'm not that far.
