MGS Ground Zeroes getting next gen retail release in EU

So the PS4/XBONE downlod version costs £10 more than the last gen version already and £20 more for the retail version?

Yeah, nah. I'll check HotUKDeals a month after launch and get it for £20 tops.

Isn't the US the biggest market for MGS?
If not I do recall kojima gracing us with preference in the past I recall we got MGS2 first in the US. Pretty much why aren't we getting a physical release if everyone else is?

Especially considering game sales are less so in the EU even when boxed compared to the US.

Quoting myself

The press release from this morning says PS4 and Xbox One versions are getting a retail release in North America.

This is just a paid demo right? GZ is still a part of the Phantom Pain version?

No, it isn't part of The Phantom Pain.

It was, but it is no longer. You need both Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain to have the true experience of the Metal Gear Solid V saga.

In Ground Zeroes, Snake gets hurt or something -> Phantom Pain. You don't need this at all. Similar to the Tanker Chapter, but you don't have to play it just so that you can play as Snake.

A standard is about to be set...

How long should prologues be for a certain amount of money?

Well £40 is the same as a full game so....Should be the same amount of content as a full game. Assuming retailers sell it at £40 anyway

Against my better judgement I will pick up retail PS4 version. I hope there is a decent amount of content, regardless I love MGS as a series and cannot pass this up.

Everything makes it sound like a demo of all the gameplay mechanics of Phantom Pain in that one small area Konami keeps showing

Imagine paying 20€ for the Tanker levels in MGS2, and then other 60 for the The Big Shell + Ending

No it is not a demo. It is a full game.

It's debatable as to whether or not it's a 'full game', particularly by Metal Gear Solid standards.

Konami sure as hell aren't going to be honest, so I'll make sure I do my part to help people understand that this is a cash in. Entirely.

Either it's justifies its price, or it doesn't. And I hope if the latter is true this game gets slaughtered in reviews as an example.

Hmmm... I'll probably just hold off or wait for bomba prices, I just have trouble believing that this is a full game.

It will be a cold day in hell before I hand over £40 for part of a game. Part, that used to be in the main release for nothing, Virtuous mission, tanker, I'm looking at you.

I'll break for sure :(

Let's wait and see. Sean Eyestone already confirmed that the game will have several hours of gameplay and side missions that will keep us busy. If we get anything between6-10 hours of gameplay for a prologue I will be very happy! :)

I still do not understand why they're charging $10 more for PS4/Xbone. No other publisher has even entertained that idea thus far.

Over time the retail release will surely be more likely to fall than the download price, plus I'd rather have a box anyway.

A retail release is nice. Now I can buy it used for the shit they are pulling with Skullgirls. The next gen price is laughable anyway.

Bro, it is not like the Tanker mission. A Prologue doesn't necessarily mean something short. Shorter than the main story yes but not short as in 30 mins. Sean Eyestone already confirmed that the game will have several hours of gameplay so it is definitely not like the Tanker which is a short chapter. Please let's wait and see before we jump into conclusions. Kojima will not release a cheap game regardless if it was a prologue or not.

Because you're getting extra content that digital version is not getting. Konami will soon announce what that extra content is. The box itself costs money. Nothing is free.

The box itself costs next to no more money.

And that extra content is going to be nothing more than a Camp Omega map. They've already announced a Ground Zeroes special edition, so the Standard Edition's contents aren't going to get anything ... special.

Fact remains that it should be part of MGS5 and not split up into two releases

I'm interested in seeing what kind of content this has. This has the potential of burning through a lot of goodwill from fans.

I don't care about the retail price difference versus digital. I care about why the same game is $10 less on 360 and PS3.

Inverse of the console tax before many games were $60 on PC too!

Actually there's also the argument that the next gen install base is smaller, ergo sell at a higher cost.

I don't know this as fact, but everything tells me that this game is one area, with multiple mini scenarios to play through, then over again for a better score. I'm usually optimistic about these things, but not so in this case. The DLC they showed appears to be just another of these mini scenarios, that may take alone anywhere between 10 and 40 minutes to complete, but they will all be in the same place, with just different guard placements, as an example.

I really, really hope I am wrong.

And as a side note, was the game not described by Kojima himself as essentially, a tutorial for MG5? That is not something that makes me think it will be abundant in content.

so you're biased against it. good to know, now we can ignore you.

I honestly think they're struggling financially to finish the game so are using this as a sort of unofficial kickstarter.

And MGS is pretty much the only successful franchise they have left, so they're trying to get as much money as they can from it.

I don't think so, I'm just not biased for it.

It's the same kind of sneaky shit as monetization. People will pick this up expecting a full-fledged game, when it is expressly not that.

So I can only hope that game reviewers take into account how much this costs, with regards to the amount of content, with regards to the amount of content expected at this price-point. Judging from similar experience, and the amount of content we can assume to be in the game, £29-£39 is far too steep. And supporting this will be setting a bad precedent.

But I think we both know who's biased here, bigboss370.
