MGS4 review - Swedish LEVEL #26 (NO SPOILERS!)

Uh oh, GamePro references FF7. THIS SHIT GONNA BE EPIC

GamePro has given MGS4 a 5/5.

Every once in a long while, a game will come along and change all the rules. Final Fantasy 7 transformed the RPG genre. Resident Evil helped create a new sub-category of gaming - survival horror - and Grand Theft Auto 3 single-handedly reshaped the gaming landscape. And now comes Metal Gear Solid 4, a game whose potential influence on the current state of gaming is nothing short of tectonic.

WAT. Alright June 12th needs to hurry the fuck over here so I can find out if this is complete bullshit.

Matt:

- Played game on easy and hardest mode. On easy you can run around and not fear anything.
- On harder modes he really found the need for cover, wished the expanded the wall hug system they have.
- Other than that new control scheme does a great job, but does not feel it matches those of Splinter Cell.
You're kidding right? This is why Matt shouldn't be reviewing. He's complaining about cover? Jesus, stop trying to play it like Gears of War

I'm so desperate for this goddamn game that I'm actually looking to spoil myself. Dug through those goddamn OST track names for anything that could give me a clue as to what is in the fucking game. Arkghkghglg.

More from the Gamepro review:

"[MGS4] sets new standards for graphics, sound, gameplay, and storytelling, and it may be years before it is equaled, let alone surpassed. You will not play a better game this year -- maybe even this decade. If you own a PS3, buy this game the day it comes out. And if you don't own a PS3, well, you better start saving your nickels and dimes."

Does anyone "know" this Gamepro Reviewer and if he can be trusted?

I want to believe the hype but I also want to avoid disappointment.

Why wouldn't you believe? All the reviews have been consistently good.

Game of the Forever. Shit people. Does this alrady spell out GOTY for will GTAIV give it a run for its money? I really see the two games being the top contenders in the end. But hot damn, the perfect scores that are coming in just make me want to run in circles to see if I can speed up time to June 11th at 11:59am. Midnight sale!

The GamePro review reads like an open love letter to the game you'd expect from a console exclusive magazine. :lol
Pros: One of the greatest games ever created, it satisfies in almost every way possible.

Cons: "Stress" concept is initially hard to grasp, a tutorial for newcomers would of been appreciated.

It's not the scores that are impressing me, its quotes like this from reviews that hypes up the game for me.

GTA4 pales in comparison, in my opinion.

if anything these are more trustable than the GTA4 reviews since people have actually finished the game this time.

There have been a bunch of reviews for this game already, yet has there been a single confirmation yet of whether it is running at 30 or 60 fps?

Chances are, it'll probably bounce between 30 - 60fps.

Well i'd actually like to be playing the game right now. But those quotes are all I have for now. :/

aye, fair enough.

just jarring to see the reactions to those contrasted to GTA review hyperbole backlash.

NO. I want some substance in someone's evaluation of the game. Not bullshit about tectonic plates and "OMG GREATIST GAYM I HAIV EVR PLAID"

As I said in the GTA4 thread, my biggest issue with GTA4 was the lack of polish. Given that all of KojiPro's games so far have had alot of polish I don't think that'll be an issue. Atleast I hope not.

Just as much as those GTA4 reviewers.

Over the top reviews like that can only hurt the game (as Skip is saying). I'm personally currently taking that review in jest.

The P:TOM review seemed just as enthusiastic. And that was coming from a guy that had completed the game twice.

Nah, but I'm surprised you're complaining about it not having a Gears of War cover system
He said nothing of the sort. :lol

Andrew:

- New camera is a relief.
- Didn't mind the lack of dedicated cover system, to busy rushing into battle and getting Drebin points
- Game really encourages run and gun approach, but you can still play both ways.
- New gear and systems like octo camo and MK2 are great.

edit: Beaten :(

and if you're confusing me with Matt, like I suspect you are, I'd suggest you actually read his whole impressions in the magazine, where there's some appropriate context.
